A few questions need answering today.

Oxley, no tempo, everytime he received the ball, he slowed it down so much, that the quick tempo game we're trying to play, never materialised.

Brown, absolute tart, too lightweight, and evertime he got played into a good position on the overlap, he failed to send a telling ball over.

Byrne, wow, to all those that wanted him in instead of Mellor, go hang your heads in shame, sluggish, carthorse like, and when he lost possession on half way and tried 'sprinting' back, I was embarassed for him.

Grounds - not doing enough, when Oxley has got the ball, why doesn't he run back and take the ball off him, and start an attack, rather than standing on half way bollocking Tarky all the time, offers no overlap, meaning he is not an attacking threat.

Dayton, see Brown, absolute fag today, too easily muscled off the ball, no right foot, so always cutting in, but never produced a telling ball, such a disappointment after Stevenage.

Baxter, uninterested, sat too deep, sending hollywood free kicks over that usually went out of play.

Smith, plenty of bark, but spent too much time shouting at everyone else to do their jobs, but didnt excel in his own.

Rooney - waste of space today, another who looked sluggish, granted the ballls into him weren't great, but I expect more from him.

MacDonald - another who didn't do enough, another disappointment after Stevenage.

Manager - knew it was going wrong, but doesn't have the depth we think he has to change it, when the strikers are doing nothing who can he bring on??? - Millar!! exactly, thats why he didn't change it.

Rodgers a massive plus, he came on knocked the ball about, won it back, but his job was too hold, which he told Bxter and Smith when he ran on the pitch, but those two decided to stand next to him, so it never really worked. Tarky MOM, fantastic performance, apart from that slice into the Lookers.

We'll take a battering at Posh next week, then hopefully we'll pick up for the two home games that finish the month.

He's not far wrong though, there's a line between being positive etc, that was appalling today, where was plan B, plan C that I heard so much about and was positively banging the drum about last week.

I fully understand and appreciate the OP's intention to stimulate debate, and I congratulate you on a well thought out post.

From my point of view though, £20 is already too dear to watch League One (Third Division) football, not just that, but at a club where the long suffering fans have had to endure 16, going into 17 seasons of the same stagnated football, where only 2 of those seasons could be classed as anything approaching "successful".

I know a number of fans, who are now lapsed, and they all say that they find £20 too expensive to watch third division football, by increasing the costs, I feel we would alienate and reduce the fan base even further.

Having said that, I'd expect a small rise if we did ever gain promotion, and I wouldn't begrudge the superior new stand having a slightly increased admission fee simply due to the fact, you are paying for a better match day experience than you would in the antiquated Main Stand for example.

Never knew Paul Rodney Rickers played in such esteemed company, thought he came on the scene alot later than that.

Stott pulled the plug on both deals - Wilkinson wound up at Barnsley helping them to promotion the year after and Vonk went to Sheffield United where he did well. If we'd have got them both we had a chance of the Play Offs that year, instead we signed Jig Saw Barlow, Toddy the Anonymous Iceman Orlyggson and John ':censored:ing' Gannon……. we struggled for the rest of the season……..oh and around the same time we let Sami Hyppia slip through our fingers. Whilst I've had my differences with Simon Corney if he can get a decent player in, he will. Stotty was a clueless :censored:ing moron along with his minions of the time…..

This is going to be a real tough game, I hope we don't approach it as being a guaranteed 3 points, because it just won't, they are well drilled and had a great season last year, finishing 9th, just 6 points outside the play-offs. Not only that, they have Westcarr up front who is a very good striker, who will cause problems to our defence, and like you mentioned, they have had two very good wins so far, if not expected against Tranmere and Port Vale.

 

Also looking back on the past few times we've played Walsall at home it reads D, L, D, L, L.

 

With our attacking players and weak(er) defence, and with them winning the first two, i'm going to call the draw, and say 2-2.

 

Just seen as well that we've only won 2 out of the last 10 against them...gulp!!!

Agree with Smith, your going to get that every game from him, as mentioned in the Stevenage MOM thread, the only reason I haven't given it him again, is as captain, i'm expecting him to do these things, I expect him to push the lads forward and look after the ball, if he pulls out a Duxbury-esque Man City away performance though, he's nailed on for my vote.

And Hands on, I disagree, I think in the league we'll have a number of penalties, in pre season we had one against Dinamo, one against Macc, one against Hudds, all because of the speed of our attacks, and then another 2 against Stevenage. In League one we'll come up against sluggish defenders who won't handle the pace of our forward players. The only sticking point will be if referee's decide we're simulating rather than actualy being fouled as a few Stevenage fans seemed to suggest we were a team of Tom Daleys.

Agree 100% and fully undestand the comment you make about fans getting restless when we were knocking it about, looking for that killer pass. Hopefully they'll find that ruthlessness to find the end pass and kill a few teams off starting with Walsall on Saturday, which I believe will be a real tough match, they've got a decent team at the moment and Westcarr certainly knows where the back of the net is.

£5 for the younger and older, £5 for the ones who got the 2 for 1 offer, last years game against sheff wednesday was on TV and £20, and we had a crap manager setting our team out to try and see out games once 1-0 up... there is an air of optimism now and that will surely see at least a few more fans
