Basically every time you open a page (same thread, new thread, other...) you take a little bit of data from the server which holds OWTB and move it to your pc/phone/device.  This in isolation is fine, but we have a very active and quite large user base which we're really proud of building up (for the fan base/club size).  So if there's one thread on a topic you pull that data back to you once. If you have to go to three threads for the data you're pulling it back three times, and thus tripling the cost. Again, in isolation that's a tiny amount, probably (not really measurable in this way) 0.001p or something tiny.  But when that's a lot of people it all adds up.

This is a pretty simplified example, but hopefully it helps.

Despite treading shit in this league for so long there's been some fantastic moments

At a push I'd say Smith's equaliser v Everton that is up there with my best moments supporting Latics. There's been other 'great moments' too over the last 20 years..

    My personal favourites:-

Dux putting us 2-0 up at City moments after Kelly's penalty save - March '99

    Allott's rocket v Bury Sept '99

    Dux's winner at Wigan - Jan '00

'What a waste of Petrol' Reading Sept '00

Carlo's winner at West Ham Nov '02

Andrews' equaliser at Plymouth Nov '02

Baudet's winner at Tranmere Jan '03

Hall's late pen at Mansfield March '03

    Eyresey at Stokport Feb '03

Starting the season - August 2003

She's pen at Hillsborough August 2003

JJ's clincher at Swindon April '04

    Scott Vernon's winner v City Jan '05

    Macca at Scunny Jan '07

Porter last minute v Tranmere Feb '07

Macca scoring at Everton 'Jan '08

Penney getting sacked - May '10

Kuqi's immediate impact vs Hudds Sept '11

Wabara putting us 3-1 up v Liverpool - Jan '13

Erwin's winner v Noblot April '17 (meant so much personally on so many levels)

    Menig's winner v Blackburn Oct '17

Agreed.  I have to add Kuqi's penalty in front of us at Bramall Lane.  2 down and dead and buried at half time, I almost went to the pub.  2-3.

Opening Day was Allott, McNIven D and Adrian Littlejohn (Cnut) then Whitehall, McGinlay briefly, Tipton, Beavers...

Whitehall signed summer 1998 had an injury prone 98/99 interrupted by taking corners duty and therefore never being in the bloody box. Although he won the pen at Maine Road.

Tipton won the penalty - I can still see it!

A lot forget we actually signed Beavers permanently but he was pretty much injured from the moment he signed and was released in 2001 having made only 6 appearances after signing full time in August 1999. HIs last appearance was in the Auto Windscreens v Stoke in Jan '00.

Had a great impact  back end of 98/99 on loan though. HIs winner v Stoke was vital in the penultimate game.

My memory is failing me here, so who played up front with Allott in that first year under Ritchie (before Beavers arrived at the death)?  Didn't Whitehall sign the year after?

  5. Mardon was good.  Another Ritchie loanee to have a good short term impact was Paul Beavers.

Earlier in the darker days of the 1990s, Simon Webster was a centre half loanee I liked.

Under Neil Warnock, I thought the early performances of Matthew Rush were brilliant. 165 grand dished out as we tried in vain to stay in the second tier.  We spent good money in those last few months at that level on him, Duxbury and perhaps others I forget about now.  Too late, unfortunately.

Our fanbase is amazing at times. Corney lacks ambition, wont invest blah blah. Years of stagnation.....ore blah...... Pics appear with a four times CL winner World Cup playing AC Milan 640 high profile games and 99 goals but he will be a shit manager.....  and bugger that Wellens is the answer.

Ok hes got a masters degree in business, speaks 6 languages and has a champions for children foundation and Nelson Mandella legacy involvement. So clearly nothing about him. He was often seen as a spiritual, intelligent and articulate figure in football ...... nah lets get Alan Stubbs.

Come on it might fail it might just work....... but writing him off is mental.

His Milan based restaurant is named Fingers.

Perhaps he's over to open an Oldham branch as a Joint Venture with Johny.

Also, with all the talk of more wingers don't forget Flynn can play wide. Once Tope signs up I'm not sure we'll be as desperate for another as some make out...

Both McLaughlin & Dummigan can do it on the right aswell.

Beyond Tope and a couple of goalkeepers (which I think will take us to 20 professionals signed up), I can't see much more activity myself.

We took 2100 to Bolton when it was 26 quid a ticket and we couldn't score for shit earlier in the season...

We'd piss 3k to Blackburn with a decent start and reasonably priced tickets

There will be a lot who look for that date before any other on fixture release day.

Could be wrong (usually am) but I'm pretty sure Corney is just saying to entertain the kid....

I very much doubly Ripley is actually injured!

    Agreed.

Well done Simon and anyone else involved in the response.  Takes me back many years to being a young fan and feeling fantastic when staff or players at the club went out of their way to make your day/week/year/lifetime up to that point.
