  1. I like the look of Tom Eaves. Still young and not the finished article by any stretch. If he can keep progressing and come on these next 2 seasons, he may be the pick of the crop currently.

This Ambrose chap we have on trial (played last night) did himself no harm and certainly worth another look. Don't know where he's from. I did ask AH but cards where guarded.

Black could make it if he just gets that extra 5% to his game and he's defo one that as to step up this season I feel.

Also Ollerenshaw in the sticks as something to work with too.

yeah squire i agree bout young tom...he works his socks off, big lad but will begin to fill out

  3. From what I've seen of Brill I'd say he's an average League One 'keeper, he makes some mistakes, some decent saves. But goals conceded have not been the biggest problem and that imo isn't down to the rest of the defence covering for Brill as it doesn't seem to me to be the most comfortable defence we've had.

The bigger problem is the lack of goals scored. We're joint 5th in the league in goals conceded and 23rd in goals scored. It's nice to see the midfield chipping in with goals but that's not their main function and I believe that the midfield over the season so far have been solid enough defensively that I'm not concerned about their roles. Abbott's contribution of goals and link up play have been widely praised and for the link up player that he is, he has definitely chipped in with a good number of goals for the role he plays. For me the serious problem is the quality and quantity of strikers in our squad who play on the last man. Looking at the strikers we have:

Link up players: Abbott, Blackman, O'Grady, Alessandra. Obviously the last two are on loan and injured respectively.

Last man strikers: Parker...erm...Brooke (who can't realistically be considered a regular first teamer yet)......

...and between them Parker and Brooke have two goals. In a team set up to rely on it's forward players for goals, that's a very worrying stat.

So I think people are missing the point when giving Brill a hard time, as I think the complaints should be aimed at Penney for not bringing in a more prolific striker or at least competition in the squad, the owners for not stumping up the cash for Penney to act on this, or Parker for simply not scoring enough goals. Injuries are bad and money is tight, but this is by far the most pressing issue for the team and one more good quality striker could make a huge difference.

so a striker will make Brill a better keeper...I ave sat and listened to happy clappers for over 35 years, in the pub, in the media and now on here and i take it with a pinch of salt..but!...to stand by that clown is absolute bollox, Fleming, Ollerenshaw, Big Gordi? what ave we got to lose, Brill is a feckin joke, i'm sure he is a nice person but that counts for nowt when he is ruining my life!

  4. If you're blaming Brill for the 3rd goal you're one of the most deluded people on here (and that's saying something given the reaction we get to any defeat). Their lad picked the ball up about 20 yards out after a mistake by :censored:, so even if he sprinted off his line full pelt he would have probably only made it to about 10 yards out before their player struck it, then factor in the fact they had a free man accross the area and then you see the dilemma he has. Rush out and commit and given the short distance it's likely the opposition player can faint and go past him or alternatively give it to his mate, or stay in your 6 yard box and try and make a save. Neither are very attractive options are they and 19/20 will result in a goal. He stayed, their lad opened his body as though to curl it into the far corner, Brill bought it and he brought his foot round the ball to get it in the near side. Nothing Brill could do at all.

please point out where i blamed him, i merely stated he made it too easy for thier lad.....you are blaming him more than me...he was sold by thier lad, why? cos hes :censored:? merely a question

  5. :laught16::petesake:

We were asked by the skipper in his notes to get behind him...we did, an there is the result...u wont find me slating players on here, its not my scene....but Deano is not good enough, the third goal a one on one, he was rooted to the spot then dived outa the way, its common knowledge you close down the angle and make yourself big. i aint gonna give no one the sympathy vote, awww give him time, awww hes lacking confidence, he's a pro ffs! not good enough, get rid!! josh in for next game, nowt to lose, who knows ala goram might just be a gem

  6. Firstly this thread is an appreciation thread so no bad comments please...you can make them elsewhere

Alan, thank you for all the effort you have put into OUR club, yes you have made mistakes, that shows that you are a human being. i have been part of this club for as long as you have and have seen how much work you and other members of staff put in, sometimes flogging a dead horse. I believe your heart and soul is with this club, as is mine...it is beyond belief how people can doubt that. Alan keep up the good work, you are truelly an ambassador for Oldham Athletic, and that sir is not a bad thing........God bless ya, and all that sails in her..........JACKO

  7. Ok this is from a selfish point of view (mine)...we get relegated....the only fans that will be left are the die hards who love the club like i do. before the matches in the locals. we talk about everything Oldham, all with a positive attitude. I remember days like it in the 70s n 80s...we had nowt, team was mediocre, manager wasnt great, ground was well, just home. but we were all mates. defenders of everything royal blue...if it takes relegation for all tht harmony again....BRING IT ON!!

  8. Blimey is it safe to come out yet?.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!My take on this is as follows. Football goes in cycles, look at football league tables from 10/20/or 30 years ago to see my point, and at this moment in history we are having a bad time, but we had a equally bad time leading into the early 90s, but then had our moment in the sun, with massive games , in league, fa cup and littlewoods cup coming thick and fast, but of course that success couldn't last, and high wages, low crowds, lots of apathy, and poor management leave us in a position none of us like. BUT, it's not the end of the world, and clubs have been in far graver situations than us, and have found a way to battle on and prosper. Not long ago the TRUE Wimbledon fans found themselves in an intolerable position and fought tooth and nail to do something about it. their never say die attitude should be an inspiration to any TRUE fan. Iv'e been watching Latics for over 50 years and and if for whatever reason I stopped watching THEM that would be me finished with football FULL STOP. Whilst appreciating so called top class football may be better quality than MY team serve up, It's no good to me if I am neither interested nor exited by it. Go and watch city oh no no no I would rather shove wasps up mi bum. I have arrived at a situation that I care little about the rest of football, including the national team, but am still passionate about My team, and look forward to there being no change in my position until I croak. roll on a week on saturday.

HEAR HEAR! except roll on this Saturday

  9. I agree with most of your comments on this thread corp.

But will I make that extra effort to make that trip to BP to see 2 average teams. Guess not, and if that makes me a "fair weather" supporter, then I'm one of 100s (or 1,000s from the good times).

and there lies the problem, but you will wait with baited breath for the FA cup draw.......shame innit?

  10. First thing that comes to my mind when I think of Oldham.

Andy Ritchie. Last minute of the first half. Arsenal. Bang.

    Easily my favourite moment ever.

For that reason I'll watch a 100 years of :censored:.

Not sure how that is relevant though.

the relevance is....good things come to those who wait, welcome aboard the good ship waiting dude

  11. I have been all things latics for 35+ so i like to think i know my onions....believe me i understand how most of you are feeling right now, the best thing that has ever happened to the club while i have been there is the slogan KEEP THE FAITH, we adopted some years ago. it is a very strong statement we can refer to when times are like they are now. we have been in worse positions than this on and off the pitch and got through them...the club, (YOUR CLUB) isnt just the players and the manager on a Saturday afternoon, its the fixtures and fittings, THE CHADDY, we have loved and defended over the years, THE ROCKY RD we have adopted as our spiritual home, and before that sang and sworn at, THE MAIN STAND, oh the main stand, where so many famous faces have sat, where (in my opinion) all the owld moaners sit, who ironically we moan at, THE LOOKERS, yeah its gone but what about the memories, when you think of BP its still there, THE THREE AMIGOS, our saviours with thier bottomless pockets (which dont really exist you know). THE BACKROOM STAFF, Gordon, the running about he does, he should be 6 bleedin stone, STU AND NOW ACKY, bringing us the news daily (good and bad) THE TICKET OFFICE AND SHOP....the list is endless, so much work goes on and on, FOR US! The players, the manager? they dont support Oldham Athletic like we do, we'll be here when they have gone like we were befere they arrived. ok it makes a statement booin em and jeerin em, i dont condemn nor condone it, i believe in freedom of speech....the message i am getting across is. THIS IS OUR CLUB!, dont hate it, LOVE IT with a passion, good things come to those who wait, i waited 25 years for the good times, and im prepared to wait another 25, who's with me?

    KEEP THE FAITH!

  12. Right gotta make sure i word this correctly as my last reply has somewhat dissapeared....lazyboy you in my humble opinion, are a very bad person who i have lost total respect for, its fans like you we dont need anyway and i would love to have a drink and a chat over the issue sometime.

    p.s

am i cowardly or stupid? I WOULD LOVE TO KNOW!

  13. I know i will get grief for this but this morning I have registered at mcfc.co.uk and bought arsenal and villa games even though im a season ticket holder at BP.

I have had enough of paying (admittedly less than city) to watch and to be part of that drivel.

Last night was an embarrassment, I used to be so into latics, Going up and down the country to watch them but this season there is nothing there, to continue playing gregan, hazel and brill is a farce, everyone can see Brill is not good enough for a pub team yet there has been no moves to bring anyone, and i mean anyone, In.

His head has gone, we need any other professional keeper, Get budz back even. but its not just what goes on the pitch,

The event as a whole is a farce, I couldnt get a drink at half time, the atmosphere was terrible and im not being part of that!

for a few pounds move just a few miles down the road there is world class players playing well in a good league, for me its got to much to say no.

F**k you F**k your season ticket (stick it up your blue nose) and if we get to round 3 of the FA cup and you draw US, please dont bump in to me!!!!!!

  14. I sometimes get quite embarrassed being a latics fan and reading all these negative comments. I mean everyone deserves an opinion that's what footballs all about but ffs some of the crap that's wrote on here is borderline bullying. Every post you read, there's at least 10 people a post with some bad ass comments which most of the time ain't deserved .Jees we,ve only played three games we got a basically brand new team who ve been together competitively for about three week. Look were not United or City we dint have 100 mill every to spend every transfer window were an average 3rd division team with piss poor attendances the longest serving team in the division with a 50-60 yr old stadium we live in a :censored:ty town we cant attract players never have been able to and probably never will until Abramovich's mates sisters dogs babysitters uncle comes and buys us, i think were lucky to have tta they but they just seem to be pissing in the wind

"It was poor defending, poor goalkeeping"......thats how it was, no off the field excuses, no ifs and buts....a single line from DPs severe and warranted after match comments, people are merlely stating what they see, merely stating thier ENTITLED opinion on a message board for ermmmmm opinions. is it ok for DP to slag his players off?
