Call me negative but I don’t see a way back for the club.

the Rothwells don’t have the cash to get us out of this league with any level of certainty. Lots of things will need to come together for it to happen and I expect to be here in 4 years time. May be shorter if the stars align, but that’s a long shot.

from there we won’t establish ourselves as anything better than lower half l2 and will probably drop down again.

I think this is our level now and anything above that will be fleeting appearance when we are punching above our weight briefly.

in short, top half NL is our baseline.

    Ridiculous take on the situation.

Our baseline is mid league one.

I predict when (not if) we go up we will have a good tilt at s 2nd straight promotion

  2. Just trying to start the monthly subscription. I selected 36 months thinking thst would sign me up to pay monthly for 3 years, but its actually asking me for it all up front.

Now I can figure out how to change it. When I click back into renew it just has the pay up front for all 36 months option.

Any ideas how to clear that?

Considering the run we went on at the end of the season that's a pretty high approval rating overall.

Their does seem overall a lot less appetite for sacking the manager. So while knowone is happy with the way the season finished I think we are more fed up of rinse and repeat.

I know some have said that the only reason we shouldn't sack Mellon because of his prior track record I think overall its a compelling one. I do believe him when he says he knows what good looks like.

Was thinking the same thing. Pretty compelling endorsement for MM this.

I'm reassured - because I agree - by the fact that Oldham fans generally aren't behaving like over reacting babies.

Total over the top pissboil on here and X .  What do we have 19 contracted players  atm  not a big enough squad for a full season I think we can all agree on that. So we need another 5 or 6 players for a 25/26 man squad maybe these 5 or 6 players are the specialist player Mellon  mentions us  needing. He has probably already identified them and may be in negotiations .  I can see Nuttall Reid Willoughby and Shelton definitely moving on   That would give him the  room and funds to add the likes of green fondop Gardner and mcgahey  as squad players . Chill out folkes and enjoy the  summer. Plenty of time to moan and rant about Latics next august

This is exactly my read on it. Chill the fuck out everyone

    Word of advice everyone.

Don’t watch his post match presser. . .

Just grab a beer and enjoy your summer.

Disagree I'm actually optimistic after watching it. He knows the score and he'll sort it. No one better out there so just throwing random names of managers who won't achieve what MM has is a bit daft. (Obvs not aimed at league one forever)

Given the size of this squad I think there must be room to maneuver. We could get by with 8 fewer, so can defo afford to partially pay some off.

    Enjoy the summer everyone

Which is utter bollocks, I picked up mine and my lads ticket but gave the ticket to him so I could meet him in the ground for the original fixture, he lives in Leeds but won't be over this way for a couple of weeks. I think a little bit more Grace is needed he has e mailed the club. I get that it isn't Latics fault but someone needs to realise that getting the ticket back to the club for the 23rd isn't practical for everyone.

I'm in the same boat, have a physical ticket, want a refund, but live an hour away from BP.

    Absolute bollocks this

I don't think it was bizarre. It was one of his most revealing yet. Plainly obvious he's had to bite his lip since he came in with an assessment after just two matches that there were huge problems ahead. He'd love to throw 75% of them under the bus immediately but he still has to try and get a tune out of them.

He's not without blame of course. Mistakes have been made, probably by trusting players he couldn't and who have let the club down during the season.

I'd back him to ensure we had a much leaner, much better team next season. It'll take a lot of wheeling and dealing and I don't think we'll be the finished article by any stretch. But I'd expect we'll field a side that can turn 1-0 leads into wins and matches like today into three, fairly ugly points. Man's a proven winner and not someone you'll want to underestimate to get it right in my opinion. Back him.

I'm with you on this. We wont get better for this level. He will get this right with us. Back him.

👍 I haven’t been since York away, think we were 6th in the league at the time and our fans couldn't wait to slag off our own players and get on their backs. For a support that regularly slaps itself self on the back, it was shocking. Feel like I'm surrounded by knobheads at every game

Completey agree with this. I do think the team has been very disappointing this season, but the sight of all those man-childs getting angry and booing is a complete embarrassment.

Anyway, Mellon defo in for me and I'll be renewing my season ticket and might even clap them off next Saturday.

I can do this because I have a good life which isn't defined by whether oldham win or lose every week.(thank god :-))

Or, introduce a SAAS / SVOD model whereby you pay X (£40?) per month and that gets you free entry into all home games and other benefits which could be added to spice it up

I might sign up to something like that even though I live 200 miles away just to support the club and feel “part of it” they could bundle in “Ifollow” etc

I think it would be revolutionary in football and not need credit facilities as it is a subscription rather than acting as a credit broker

I think there is something in this. Since Frank has got involved especially i feel that some people would like to meaningfully support the club from "afar".

I'm not as far as 200 miles, but far enough, and I've thought a few times about buying kids season tickets for my lads even though they won't come. Just to bolster income/published attendances. Be better if there was.a product to satisfy this.

Thought I'd have another look at the form table seeing as we're on a bad run with no win in the last 3. Despite that we've not been too badly affected when it comes to league position.

Over the last 4 games, only Barnet (3rd), Aldershot (4th) and Halifax (5th) are in the top 7 of the form table out of the play off contenders. Solihull are 8th and the rest are miles off including us unfortunately... Bromley (15th), Oldham (16th), Gateshead (18th) and Altrincham (22nd)

Over the last 10 games, only Aldershot (4th) and Gateshead (6th) are in the top 7 of the form table. Barnet (9th), Halifax (10th), Solihull (11th), Oldham (14th), Altrincham (16th) and Bromley (18th).

When looking at the 4, 6, 8 and 10 game form tables, only Aldershot are in the top 7 for all of them (4th, 5th, 2nd and 4th respectively). They're the only truly consistent team over that time, others have had good runs over a smaller number of games.

I'm going to do that thing that loads of people hate... put a positive spin on things!  Putting the quality of football aside, there's nothing in that data that suggests we're at serious risk of dropping out of the play offs. Purely because almost all the other teams are having equally iffy runs. So it still looks like there's every chance we'll be in the play offs. Then you look at the potential opposition and there's no one there that you'd expect would blow us away - even the best form team Aldershot only just edged us and we were absolutely woeful.

I'd imagine that Mellon is looking at the end of the season as 8 build up games before a short end of season cup competition. And the only things he's bothered about achieving in that time are 1) enough points to make sure we're in the cup comp and 2) win the cup competition by whatever means necessary.

Dont really disagree with the last paragraph, just such a shame we haven't had a good run at 3rd place which would've significantly increased our chances of success.

We all have choices and I chose not to attend for the second home game running because I have not been enjoying it. It was the 2nd lowest home league attendance of the season on Tuesday @ 5538 so looks like quite a few others are in the same boat, despite our relatively lofty league position. It's an interesting (worrying?) fact and surely evidences that home performances do matter? People want to see some semblance of something resembling half-decent football and it's not been evident at home. I came back into the fold for the Woking game and we've one one in 5 home games since. Much of the football has been appalling. You can't argue with that. Equally, I accept MM's away form has been great.

Looking at the arguments on here, I think one worth thinking about is this. If the home and away form was reversed, home attendances would be better. Cash flow would be improved and that is obviously better for the club. When you are building for the future you have to bring the fans along with you. That's not currently happening, so it's hard to fully accept the "points (wherever they may be won) is all that matters" stance.

I'm a bit flabbergasted that anyone doesn't appreciate the last two home games.

OK I accept the quality isn't great, but I think we have seen a team really stand up to the task at hand, be rock solid and really seem to care about trying (and unfortunately falling short) of winning games of football.

If you can't find any joy at all in the last 2 games, how on earth have you stuck with it for the last 5 years???

I honestly think some fans are so messed by the shit we've had had to endure that they aren't able to see the wood from the trees.

Please Spanishfly and other like you. Stick with it. You don't deserve the destination, if you can't stomach the journey.

Please don't take this overly personally although I did directly quote you 🙂

On a semi-related note, I cannot understand why week in week out our fans applaud these pathetic away followings. Teams literally bringing numbers you could fit on a coach - most of which are probably family and friends of the 11 on the pitch.

Last night Bromley brought what 35 fans. They're second in the fucking league. They had 3,000 in at home at the weekend. It's laughable.

When we were in just L2 the paltry followings would be derided. What's changed to make these 'followings' worthy of acclaim?

Appreciation of the ones who did make the trip????

Although to be fair, yeah .ost are probably relatives of the players 🙂

Think some latics fans are still living in the dream were a league side. We played a team last night that not only got to the playoffs last season but have been in the top 3 all this .

we restricted them to very few chances and created 3-4 excellent chances ourselves especially in the first 15 mins. Yes the 2nd half was a bit turgid but although they stepped up a little Hudson  had little to do. Yeah you can argue poor finishing but so was ours in 1st half .

MM has made it clear that he doesn’t have a particular style of play but plays a style to suit the players he has and to try & win the game . This season after the DU spell we would all have taken a play off spot so who cares how it’s achieved. If we don’t go up this season I’m sure that MM will sort out what he needs in the summer.

Time to stop moaning and start supporting.

Great Post. 100% agree. Christ some oldham fans are living on planet Zorg. 5PM is doing a very good job. We are on track to be in the playoffs. If he was here from the start we'd be comfortably top 3.

He has added a steel to us that gives us a decent shout in the playoffs.

OK its not pretty at times, but you know what, we just need promotion.
