  1. So you lot are quietly confident about tomorrow then? It's just that when opposing teams fans have said they've no chance etc etc. e.g. Bristol and Plymouth fans who were particularly negative about their team, they went and beat us. Where as those bursting full of confidence were swept aside! So how's it going to go folks?
  2. Gayfarm? Did you take a wrong turning off the M62?
  3. Two attacking teams should mean an open exciting game or am I just being overly optimistic? Games against Oldham always seem to be tight affairs regardless of the final score but if we continue with our recent form and play with passion and determination then we should do well. The problem is we're our own worse enemy at times. It's well known our defensive play is our main weakness so we'll need to put the work in when we don't have the ball and strike with pace when we do. No doubt PD will have your lads will up for it after not playing too well last week so I'm expecting a another tight encounter. The odd goal either way
  4. That was just my view, other Town fans thought he was wonderful, irreplaceable even. To be honest my only problem with him was constantly being booked or red carded or bloody injured.
  5. We all knew it was time for Holdy and Worthy to move on. The affection we felt for them was based mainly on when they came into our team as youngsters and we were in administration and at rock bottom so we had to rely on the academy lads. In fact for a couple of seasons we had the most home grow players in the first team than any other club. Incredibly, they helped us to gain promotion that year, guided by the wonderful Peter Jackson. Things like that shape your views on players but sadly although they showed fantastic promise they never really fulfilled it. I genuinely thought Andy Holdsworth and Dave Mirfin (now at Scunthorpe) would make it at a much higher level. As for Worthington he always gave 100% and was a Town fan and that was about it!
  6. Bloody Hell! So sorry it hasn't worked out for them but it sounds like you'll be glad to be rid of them! When we played Charlton Athletic back in late August I thought Pav was their best player. I always liked the lad, his only problem being his confidence but on his day he was a as good as anything in League One in my view.
  7. Oh well, it seems as though only three of us are interested in this game so far, which is strange seeing has how it's a local derby and we've apparently sold almost 3,000 tickets. How many of our 'old boys' will be playing I wonder? I'd like to see my own favourites Holdy and Worthy play but we'll see! Looks like the weather could play a part once again, made worse by the absent stand no doubt. Looking forward to some John Willy's in the Greyhound beforehand and a great game obviously!
  8. A Terriers fan here again!... It's usually a good game against your lot, with the possible exception of last season where the high winds turned it into a farce, so I'm looking forward to another visit to Boundary Park. It's usually a good day out too with decent pubs and friendly locals. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't too worried about the prospect of playing you because you always seem to play pretty well against us even when you've lost. From what I can gather your performance last Saturday was pretty poor though so you'll no doubt be aiming to rectify that and what better place to start than against a fairly local rival. If we continue with our recent form I'd say we're in with an excellent chance of victory but nothing's certain as they say. Consistency is the name of the game and it's looking like only Brighton are achieving that at the moment. There's a massive air of expectancy amongst our fans this season having made some exciting signings in the Summer. In the first instance it seemed that Lee Clark didn't know his best starting line up and he kept chopping and changing things. Just as he seemed to settle on a starting line up we picked up quite a few injuries, then the odd suspension and International (Under 21's) call ups disrupted it all over again. Right now thought it seems we're over most of that and we've added another forward 17 year old Benik Afobe from Arsenal. All that said we're still the same as last year in many respects., in that we can look shaky at the back at times but thankfully our forward play is even more potent. Should be a good game and I'm looking froward to it! See you all there!
  9. Hey! we actually scored two goals after that!...BUT I didn't say we played well, far from it, in fact I agreed with Lee Clark who said it was one of our worst home performances since he became manager! Your lads were like Brazil in patches and that's no patronising exaggeration, they really were that good. I just can't believe you're in such a :censored:e League position.
  10. Just back from the game and first of all I must say sorry to you Latics fans! Your team were magnificent tonight and you still got nothing! Such is football! They played football way way above their league position. They totally out-passed us, bossed midfield and they were first to virtually every ball. Our manager, Lee Clark was absolutely correct when he commented that his smile at the end was a smile of embarrassment. Enough said! Good luck Oldham, you certainly don't deserve to lose your League One status. Far from it!
  11. Setting off to my local hostelry in Leeds in a few minutes. I'll take it steady for and hour or two then it's over to Huddersfield on the train. Throw a couple of pies down to soak up 'the goodness' then for some more singing juice. This is a big game for us which could secure a top six spot and I know Oldham need points to ease any nagging worries too, so I'm expecting a good game. If we can play at and sustain a high tempo then I've every confidence we'll win. However, if Oldham come to frustrate, pack out midfield and dig in, it could be a different story. We seem to struggle against teams who come with a negative rearguard action. That's not to say we think teams should automatically lie down easily but it's only lately that we've started to realise hard work earns us the right to play the open fancy stuff. We'll have to put in the serious spade work first, then pass the ball well. Bring it on! Safe journey etc etc!
  12. Of course you have to secure your League One place! My mistake Sorry! Even though you don't sound too confident I'm pretty sure you'll be okay! Too many decent players to go down me thinks.
  13. I've always enjoyed our games with 'The Latics' because they're usually very competitive and no quarter given by either side and I'm genuinely sorry to hear you all feel so dispirited at the moment. If it's any consolation us Terriers fans know exactly how you're feeling. There's nothing worse than thinking the whole world's caved in on you at this stage of the season, with little to play for. I also think it's a huge shame that this game has been moved from a prime bank holiday slot to a Tuesday evening when most folk have work to attend the next day. Did they think they're was some chance hoolie trouble or something? Even if they did, I still can't see why we have to pander to those mindless goons. If they want a scrap they'll have one in any case, no matter when the match is played. Anyway! I'm actually looking forward to the match, it's such a pity one or two of our old boys will be missing but I'm sure the old local derby/roses spirit will stir the players on!
  14. There's been spells in home games this season when the opposition really struggle to cope with our pace, movement and persistent attacking play. More recently, for the first hour or so we tend to overwhelm teams but fail to create a healthy lead and then let teams to come back at us. It seems the overall pattern of modern football seems to have gotten more like that. So tonight we'll be looking to kill Oldham off 'if' we can dominate. 'If' we don't, then we could come unstuck. Very much a game of if's and buts I think! How do you lot think your lads will perform?
  15. We (HTFC) need a win tomorrow neet and no mistake! Swings n roundabouts boys n girls! I'm not into scoring momentary points off you lot if I'm honest. I really only care about my club Huddersfield Town, cos they're the ones we're saddled with until I die and I'm sure you all feel the same about your club. Indeed, I can remember your lads in recent seasons coming down here and pissing all over our team. Never mind who owns your club, who's doing you a mischief (maybe) or anything else. At the end of the day it's your club and it will be what you're prepared to let it be, or put up with. I've shovelled enough of my hard earned cash into keeping my club afloat in the past (don't tell the missis) So come on Oldham stand up when you're needed! Hey?
  16. Oldham Athletic is my religion! Boundary Park is my Church? Oldham and Proud? Hey? Barcelona v Arsenal? Hey?
  17. I know it's always a downer when your team's lightly in the doldrums but matches between Oldham and Huddersfield are usually pretty entertaining aren't they? The high admission price will no doubt put numbers of fans off travelling, that coupled with the fixture change to a night game will probably also contribute to a well below average gate for this type of game. I've also noticed Oldham's gates have fallen dramatically (2880 fans against Brentford?) so it would seem the club is struggling somewhat. Let's hope the proposed new ground helps to lift everyones spirits hey? As for tomorrows game I'm hoping for a Terriers win obviously but I wouldn't put it past Oldham to make it very very hard for us. You always seem to play well against us in any case! BUT as they say, may the best team win! Regards! Safe journey over to Hudders!
  18. I also thought the free kick taken in a similar position and headed wide by Rhodes about ten minutes after the goal exposed the same near post weakness. The keeper always seemed to looking for the far post ball. Teams will notice that and definitely try to exploit it by going down easily for free kicks. Giving free kicks away in those positions is fatal by the looks of it. I thought there were a few desperately physical tackles from your defenders at times too. Although your midfield seemed pretty good on the ball they did leave the back four very exposed at times. Oh well! It's over now! Genuinely hope you recover from this setback! It's early days yet!
  19. Those of you who think we looked a poor side need to consider that it wasn't a good performance by our standards this season either. There's been times (especially at home) when we've totally buried teams this season. So don't judge us on that because the weather ruined any opportunity to play football for both sides. However, I felt we wanted it more and last season I don't think we'd have got anything from that game, that for me was the difference, I think we WILL be up there at the end, mainly because we have strength in depth, something which it seems Oldham seriously lack. Good luck all the same! Great to see Pav back in good form, I'd say he was your best player by a country mile.
  20. I genuinely thought Oldham Athletic were a poor shadow of their old selves today! As we all know the conditions were terrible but you had no pattern, no determination and above all no creative players. For a time I actually thought you bossed the midfield especially in the first half but why the hoof ball, were you rally that desperate? After we scored you had no answer and we totally controlled it I thought. What's happened to that penetrating wing play and fantastic movement your team used to have? And that of never say die attitude? Hey, I know we were no great shakes and it was no footballing classic but we had desire and wanted the win and at the end of the day I thought we deserved it overwhelmingly. While I'm chuffed to bits with 3pts if I was an Oldham fan I'd be sick as 'the proverbial' that you seem to have a team without any real cohesion and above all fight.
  21. Great news! Are you really able to see into the future? If so, tell me the final score and I'll call at the bookies on my way over t'hill
  22. The thing is will the game go ahead because here over in Leeds it's absolutely lagging it down and has been for hours. If it's anything like this in Oldham and it continues as forecast I just can't see it going ahead. Does this amount of rain and the likelihood of it continuing all day usual cause postponements at Boundary Park?
  23. Over to Dewsbury to see my old mum fairly soon, then I'll probably listening to Leeds Utd v Yeovil Town commentary on the radio to pass the afternoon on. No doubt this'll be peppered with the odd visit or two to various score up date sites as well. It's Saturday afternoon, bright, sonny and perfect day for football, why the hell aren't we playing?
  24. Getting quite excited at the prospect of this one now especially as it seems we'll have quite a few there. Sold the initial allocation 2700 and now it's pay on the day. Which I expect will pull in at least another 1,000 or more, so it could be 3500/4000 Terriers, now that should be pretty loud! Win,lose or draw it's always an exciting game at Oldham so I can't wait. What times will the buzzers open anyone?
  25. Hi You Latics Friendly Terriers fan here. Thought I'd drop in and test the pre-match 'opinions water' so to speak! How do you see the game going? For my part, just like the rest of our season, going into games I feel confident that if we play to our potential then we'll give a good account of ourselves but our season is littered (already) with false starts. We drew at Southend Utd early on (never an easy place to play so a decent result), we won at MK Dons (great performance) and although we lost 2-1 at Charlton Athletic in our last away game, their fans said we're the best team they've played so far. We beat Leyton Orient 4-0 at home last weekend which was a fair reflection of a game that we dominated for long spells. In fact at times (especially when we were 3-0 up) we looked like a very good side. On the downside, we do tend to blow hot and cold during games and so far teams that stop us playing our passing game by shear effort and hard work usually do well against us. It really does upset our rhythm and we struggle to cope. We are learning to do that but it's taking time. Apart from the Millwall away we've not really been totally dominated by a team but that day we just 'didn't turn up'. Without doubt all the town fans will be urging our lads on to big performance on Sunday and with the added spice of ex-players and a few Leeds exiles in your team the atmosphere should be cracking. Hope that doesn't boil over into any post-match silliness as in the last few seasons, I can live with the banter but when it's starts spilling over into mindless violence I despair to be honest. So what do lot think?
