I am confident there will be some news this week

I've said on a previous thread and I don't want to come across as a stuck record,  but it's hard to roll out your short term/long term plan and bring in some new board members when one of the old guard us still there.

We all need time to absorb what's happened, fans, staff, players and owner

TBA I'm sure we will get some news soon

I think your dead right about time to absorb what's happened.

I would think AL must have a fair idea if he wants to stick with RW or not. If so then he would probably sit down with him to discuss the best steps forward. If not then sit down with him and find out what he thinks needs sorting then get rid and get someone that can sort it !!!!

  2. I started supporting latics in the old 4th div & we had to apply for re-election.

Don't know why most are whinging about relegation,  we've had 21 years in league 1 and the vast majority of it has been spent fighting relegation. Most of the football has been dire except for a couple of seasons flirting with the play offs.

The last 6-7 years have been bordering on suicidal and now we have finally had the trapdoor opened on us.

Something had to give as we can't go on as we are and one of 2 things will happen now.

1/ regroup and AL and some new directors can invest so we come back stronger.

2/ we do a Chesterfield and drop again.

Personally I think AL was fully aware of the problems and getting relegated , whilst not in his plans , wasn't going to stop his long term plans.

I think this week will show what future we can expect next season !!

Fine margins this year, too many draws. Look at the table. Portsmouth lost more than us. I felt we've been complacent for a while, thinking we'd always nick that final win we needed at some point but we left it too late.

The players and manager should of course shoulder some of the blame but Shez does too for not bringing in a keeper at the start of the season. Placide isn't great but he's ten times as good as those first two clowns we had this year were.

For me the relegation is to be expected with the way Corney and TTA had been running the club since they started the cut backs a couple of seasons after Sheridan got us in the play offs.

I don't know if AL will be any better? I think off the pitch the club needs to really think about what it wants to be, i.e. put a plan in place. I wouldn't mind what division we were in to be honest if we had some kind of plan. I've said it before but I would like to see us go back to focusing on giving youth a chance, mixed with a few ageing pro's and if if we really have to a few of AL's foreigners to keep him happy.

Agree with that,  don't think Wellens accepted we were in a relegation battle until it was too late.

We need AL to sort the backroom side out and a new manager,  I was supportive of RW when he first took over and although he made mistakes,  as all new managers do, he made the cardinal sin by not learning from them.  He became arrogant that his way was right. Not only has he proved he is tactically inept he obviously can't motivate players.

Besides Blackburn away we allowed the opposition to dominate the first 20min of every game then inevitably found ourselves one or two down.

The biggest sin for me though was his handling of Doyle & Byrne.

We have a proven goalscorer in Doyle yet game after game he nullified him by playing Nazon. I know Nazon scored a few goals but I think Doyle would have scored more without Nazon. Then we have Byrne one of the best creative midfielders in league 1 and we constantly play him wide.

I know we have many off field problems but the bottom line is RW sets the team up and sends them out. The squad was good enough to stay in league 1 but the manager wasn't.

Time clear out the dead wood and regroup to build for the future based on producing youth and not journey men. Not bothered what league were in i just want to see us play more entertaining football and actually look from the ko that we want to win the game.

  4. There is no way Charlton will go into the game not looking to win it.

They can't settle for a draw because they know one moment from Dale could lose them the game. Then imagine how they would feel if they find that Plymouth have won 5-0.

With even the slightest chance of being caught then Charlton will want to win.

Just watched video of Northampton and Rochdale matches from weekend and both look better than us.

Just hope Charlton can do the business.

I've seen Dale 4 times this year and each time they have looked a far better team than us BUT they're still below us!!!!

This will be a very tough game. They're gonna come out of the traps flying, like all out attack with nothing to lose. I hope Wellens isn't under the impression that these have given up and will be a walkover. A team with everything to gain and fuck all to lose is as tough of a team we could face on Saturday and if we don't keep our shit together early on, it'll be very hard to get a result.

Agree, Just hope for once we can score first.

Do that & I think we will take a lot of the wind out of their sails.

Got a horrible feeling though that we will have to rely on Charlton.

  7. Some points for Sat-

Northampton will be a totally different team to the one at BP.

Also relegated teams are dangerous to play as all the fear has gone.

Dale will have their main man back in Henderson.

Charlton may only need a draw,  depending on Tues.

Latics haven't won since Easter Monday.

Teams starting Nor have relegated us the last 3 times

My heart tells me Latics win 3-0 & all's well.

Head tells me Dale 0-0 latics lose 1-0.

Let's hope my heart rules my head.

  8. Thought Wellens we the right choice at the time but as time has gone on its becoming more of a bad choice.

Tactically inept and suffers from stubbornness that then highlights the ineptness . He also appears to have become arrogant from what was honest assessments to now blaming others and offering excuses.

It's now become clearly a case of can others keep us in league one because we are now incapable of winning a game.

Also think that Wellens has never accepted we are in a relegation battle until this week and it was too late.

Over the last 4 home games he can't see that Nazon  & Doyle doesn't work but his stubbornness won't allow him to change it.

He's got to go back to a similar line up to the Northampton home game and get more forward momentum from midfield. We scored 5 in that game and Doyle didn't get on the score sheet.

Let's hope that Charlton do the job for us.

  9. The first season I watched latics we had to apply for re-election in the 4th  division.

I have seen us rise to the premier league & nearly back.

The 4th division was a whole lot different in those days, double figure gates,  free flowing football & goals.  I don't want to see us back there because I can see us doing a Chesterfield with no re-election to save us.

I just hope that Wellens luckily gets it right for next Saturday then goes but I think that it will inevitably come down to what Charlton do.

  10. Could do with a Plymouth win or draw at Scunny on Tues as that would mean Charlton have to win at Dale to ensure play off.

Even if Plymouth did lose Charlton would still need a point.

Think I may go to Dale as a Charlton fan as I just can't see us winning any game at the moment and Dale losing is our only chance!!!
