And that ignores the ridiculous suggestion we'd be better off for having Willoughby and Tollitt around.
Why is it ridiculous? Both scored today and I don't believe for a second that's down to them playing at a "lower" level.
It's us that's the problem, not them...

I thought he might resign too before being pushed.
There's more to life than being a football manager.
His health will suffer if he carries on with most of this lot most next season.
Problem is I'd feel sorry for the next manager as he'd be dumped with much of the same.
There might be something in this, but it's hard for someone in his position to walk away from a three year (?) contract. The lengthy contract doesn't always just benefit the employee!

Oh, well done to the fans who turned on Norwood today, well done.
One thing we can surely agree on regarding Norwood is that he definitely doesn't give a shit what the fans think?

Novelty moment - saying to Hudson win this we are two off the play offs. Let’s play with urgency. He turns around and goes shut the fuck up.
I think that says all you need to know about the dressing room atmosphere. Not looking at the perspective of the fan, just looking inward and creating an us against them divide. He could have ignored you or applauded (disingenuously), but he chose to engage in a confrontational way...
We're Oldham Athletic. We've not won a cup or promotion for 33 years. Unfortunately you have to be strong enough to carry that burden when you sign for/ buy the club. There needs to be some understanding of that there.

Trace it all back to Boreham Wood where he publicly told everyone they thought they were shit.
He said that after the game we won?

Insipid. We have stolen a draw against a team of already relegated part timers.
NLTV Oxford based commentator (82nd minute): “These Oldham players just don’t look very interested…. Not much effort”. That is damming!
We have collapsed in slow motion this season. Abysmal form in the first and fourth 1/4’s of the season have killed us.
2 wins from the last 13. Only the two teams that will be relegated have won fewer games in that time.
Does Mellon deserve another year? Not for me. Looks clueless and spent.
The decision makers (DR) need to look in the mirror too and do we trust them to make a decent move with the next appointment?
I wanted Mellon to get longer than Unsworth did just because of his previous record, but he comes across as completely fed-up in interviews and the players don't seem to be playing for him. How can the players not be up for winning just these three games to get us back into the play-off mix, after a season of mediocrity? Have some professional pride.
I think Mellon might be an issue, but I'm certain the players are. Don't offer a single new contract and try and shift on anyone else we can and rebuild from scratch.

Sounds much the same as usual at the Goals centre in Oxford, according to Twitter. They don't look arsed, apparently. Even if they hate the fans, manager and club in general, why don't they want to do it for themselves? It's like 3, possibly 6 games, then they can vanish for the summer. Weird..

I was there and he scored but definitely didn't get a hattrick...
... Henry and Sharp got the others

No. Sharp did against Luton. That's the only one, I think.

Is with me. I was in Thailand at the time and remember being in an internet cafe desperately trying to grab any information about the game that evening.
I think that match only moved to Thursday to accomodate Sky Sports who showed it live. I don't think we had another match that midweek.
Saturday against West Ham, Tuesday against Sheff Utd, Thursday against Spurs and then Norwich on the Saturday says Wiki.
I remember vague rumblings of injustice at it, but in reality we were just demoralised after THAT goal... which happened 30 years ago tomorrow!

They won't change games already scheduled.
In 1989/90 we played Sunday Tuesday Thursday Saturday Monday if memory serves. And I'm pretty sure we didn't have a game postponed. Footballers today eh?
Was it not something similar in '94 too? We lost to Spurs on a Thursday and drew with Norwich on the Saturday and got relegated. Penalised for FA Cup run. And a shit pitch.
We ain't got no dogs in the fight here. No chance of making the play-offs. Lets not worry about who plays who when. We've got bigger issues!
-
I wish we could do this for every game.
The jeopardy of when and where the games are going to be played make things a hell of a lot more exciting. Maybe we could even introduce no one knowing who they're going to play! There's mileage in this...
.. literally and metaphorically.

This seasons a huge fucking failure, let the post mortem begin but don't tell me Mellon didn't have enough to get this team in the playoffs because that's just bollocks, it's all gone a bit Richie Wellens for me when he managed to get us relegated after he gave up and I'd suggest Mellons done the same because if he hasn't he's incompetent or incapable and needs removing, why give him another 10 games that some are asking for I've seen enough in 30 odd to tell me somethings not right.
It isn't like the Wellens situation. He (and all managers under the Lemsegams) were being forced to play certain players and there was dressing room interference from those halfwits. The situation was untenable.
This is the complete opposite. Everything is in place, it would seem. I understood why Wellens gave up. I wouldn't have a clue why Mellon might have given up..

For all those saying give him time-
I will await your response if it’s piss poor after ten games next season. . .
We all want continuity - but it must come with something tangible. No manager can sustain poor results in the name of ‘give it time’
As I say, I think it will be more of the same next season. Loads of these players are contracted until the end of 2025. Would a new manager make a difference?
I actually think we'll be a better team simply by not offering any new contracts and doing nothing else. It can't be good for team spirit having so many players knocking about who aren't wanted..

It's always a difficult one regarding when to lose faith and depart with a manager. A lot are saying give him the summer and 10 games etc. Trouble is if you do that then the next manager can continue to play the blame game "I inherited Mellon's shit" and the craziness continues.
The problem is it's still largely "Unsworth's shit" until the end of next season, unless we can find some gullible clubs to take a few of them off our hands (which is at the point they turn into world-beaters, probably..).
Mellon needs more time to sort us out. If not, it'll just be a different manager with the same players and probably the same outcome. It'll be more of the same next season I fear, whoever the manager is. Then a summer of rebuilding. Then a season to gel, with the prospect of getting up the season after.
Could take a while, this...

Look if people think that 17 goals constitutes a good season and value for money then you are more than welcome to hold that view.
You'd be wrong of course, but you are entitled to be.
I'm no Norwood fan, but it's a reasonable return. If the "recruitment department" thought spunking all that money on him would guarantee 30 goals from him, they really have mis-judged it...

Fane was much better at breaking up the play and passing to a colleague but not very good at the business end of the pitch!!
He was good at getting yellow cards and did a job against Blackburn, where his only job was to pass the ball 2 yards to Byrne.
I don't get why he seems to be a constant point of reference. Is it because he's got a funny sounding name? Or his distinctive gangly running style? He was rubbish and we never need a player like him again!

Understandable! It was an extreme example! Do believe Sheron is a Fane type player- not too that of an extent though.
Harsh on Sheron, that. No one deserves that level of abuse.

Gardner, Lundy, Conlon and McGahey all better than Sheron. So he’s not the best of a bad bunch.

He should be, he's seems pretty astute at wasting others money and with that I'd expect some pressure or at least some assurances it can be put right.
Can someone summarise what happened with Royle at Wigan? Did he come out of that whole thing well?

I’d get rid of mellon. To make zero progress over more than 30 games is criminal.
He needs the summer to put his own stamp on the team...
Like many others were for ages with Unsworth, I think we should stick with him, but wouldn't be arsed if he left...

1 win in 11.
On the plus side - we’ve beaten last seasons points tally with 3 games to go- if that isn’t a sign of progress I don’t know what is.
#incrementalimprovement
That is a seriously depressing stat for the season. "On the verge of the play-offs" for a lot of it, but in reality no better than last year's failure.

Nah, I don't think that's right.
There's no way Willoughby and Tollit are "crap" in the context of our first eleven today. Shez's starting eleven against Dorking at the start of last season are better than what we've got now.
From there we've chucked money at it and it's somehow worse. Something ain't right..
