  1. The question is why leave at 8:00am if it was known that there was enough doubt to arrange a pitch inspection for 9:30am?

Because if the game was on they wouldn't want to be rushed in preperation I assume, and as seeing as the home team pays the travel expenses if the game is posponed they really had nothing to lose.

  2. Harsh on the EPL... no doubt these two (well, Barca on that showing) are a class above - but the EPL is at least competitive.

La Liga is quickly becoming a bigger and better version of the SPL. Two horse race, the stat - I don't recall the exact details - is that in 130 some games the two sides have only lost 6 games against teams other than RM/Baca. Tiresome.

Yet in the last ten years they have had 4 different Champions (Barca, Madrid, Valencia and Deportivo) compared to our 3 (Scum, Arsenal and Chelsea) and more teams Qualified for the Champions league - 11 ( Barca, Madrid, Atletico, Valencia, Deportivo, Seville, Betis, Celta vigo, Sociedad, Villarreal and Osasuna) compared to 8 from the Premier League (Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Scum, Leeds, Newcastle, Everton and Spurs) Plus teams like Betis, Vigo, Sociedad, Seville and Atletico having had stints in the segunda.

Over here it tends to be teams that get a billionaire backer that are going to break the trend at the top whereas over in spain it can be pretty much anyone from small clubs like Celta and Osasuna to big teams like Seville and Betis.

Agreed that over the last 2 years Barca and Madrid have been miles ahead but put them two in the Premier League, Serie A or any other league in the world It would be the same story.

A whole lot more competetive if you ask me.

  3. ''He signed for Preston North End on 30 January 2008 for a fee of £500,000 (including "sell on" and "after appearances" clauses) on a three year deal''

So he's out of contract January 2011?

I assume it will be in the summer, very few players contacts expire in january apart from short term deals.

  4. Am I missing something here - did all their goals come from our right hand side? Winchester tripped a player, they missed the subsequent penalty so why are Winchester and Jones being blamed for this defeat when the goals didn't come from them.

Nope if you read it again I never said that.Winchester was tiring (not suprisingly for a youth player who has played two 1st team matches in 4 days), it was obvious to everybody and the reason that many belive they were able to overrun him and unfortunatly for the lad gave the penalty away. the reason many are having a go at Jones was his lack of effort and unwillingness to put his body in when we needed it. When White was on he was still putting in a fair old shift despite starting to fade a little, same goes for Taylor but once the subs were made Exeter felt comfortable enough to go for it as they knew we pose little threat from hitting them on the break.

Its unfair to blame any individual for the defeat. But there were obvious problems in that last 25 minutes.

  5. Gutted to throw it away like that. 1st half was excellent and eclipsed our 1st half performance against huddersfield. 2nd half and we still had control of the game and had Furmans shot gone in, it probably would of finnished 5 or 6. Then at about the 70 minute mark we did everything we could do wrong. Dickov Should of took Winchester of as the lad was tiring after another good performance but with Whites defensive sense and more importantly EFFORT the two of them were coping with there winger. Then when Jones came on well the poor lad had no help what so ever and they started to overun him by sending the fullback up aswell. Now i wont blame what happened on any individual player but the performance i saw from Ritchie was embarrasing. He clearly jumped out off 4 or 5 challenges in the 15 minutes or so that he was on the pitch and never once broke sweat and hopefully he won't be anywhere near the 1st team untill he sorts himself out. Feeney was typical Feeney by not really doing anything or holding the ball up and using his experience to help us overcome the hole we had got ourselves into. I think Brooke and Kelly offer much more despite the inferior reputations in the game.

Signs were coming before it happened but we were coping well enough untill the changes were made. Hopefully The management and players learn from it and make sure it doesnt happen again.

As for Saturday, the same 11 need to start and perform like they did 1st half for 90 minutes and if they do we will walk away from Spotland Very happy and very drunk!!

Changes to the bench is what i hope to see Sat.

  6. Colchester in what i think was one of the last few games Ritchie was manager, it took 7 and a half hours to get there after doing a mile and a half in 1 hour. We were 10 minutes late and missed the opening Colchester goal and didnt have a clue about, we equalised which i thought was us taking the lead and then they goat a 2nd. We were talking about how we were lucky to be drawing only to find out after someone heard us that we were losing. And to top it off Shez got a red card for foul and abusive language after telling D Shez to f*** off after he was told to get back, only for the ref to think it was aimed at him.

Hated everything about Colchester ever since.

  7. The way some go on about the better facillities in the RRE make it sound on a par with those of wembley. Its crap just like the Chaddy go on about the steel pillars getting in the way but i've sat in there for the last 15 years and i've probably missed half a dozen challenges if that (funnily enough one of those was on Saturday). I would like a beer in the Chaddy which you can get in the Rocky but it doesnt really spoil my day out, and seeing as i am in the Pub drinking nice beer which it its not at Latics anyway, straight after the match I don't really care.

Next its about the atmosphere and how much better it carries but never once in the time since the lookers has gone have i though 'wow the Rocky is really rocking today' it crap and the only noise that comes from that stand is usually from the chav army goading 150 Yoevil/exeter/Francise fans. I'd hazard a guess that if the away fans wern't in that stand there would be no singing at all so making the Chaddy the away end would kind of defeat the object anyway.

The thing that gets me about the whole Chaddy/Rocky debate is that i use to just accept it when we had the 4 stands and it was for away fans only because we never got a chance to really know how many fans would prefer the switch only from the few who had there say on here and other messageboards. But now its been the 3rd season that we have had chance to switch, yet never in all those games have there been more Latics fans in the Rocky than the Chaddy and usually theres at least double the amount in the Chaddy compared to the Rocky so i think that ends the argument. If anything make the Rocky for away fans only.

  8. Why are people saying its 'Dales fault?

The Ref has sole responsibility for the inspection, i'd be very surprised if he didn't do one, and if he did then it was obviously the wrong decision.

The fault lies solely with the Ref.

I assume Dale were more than capable of bringing the potential problems to the attention of the referee a long time before the game started. it sounded like most people involved with the clubs new the game wasn't going to last a couple of hours before the game started so why didn't they demand a pitch inspection to save all the hassle.

  9. Wouldn't have thought we could hang on to the money. The game was at Rochdale's ground so surely the money is legally theirs? Suppose we could be b*ggers about handing it over, though.

Not sure what Corney can do about it. Surely it's all down to Rochdale to decide.

Screwing our fans over would certainly create some bad feeling between the two clubs. If they make us pay again, we should charge their fans £30 for the game at Boundary Park.

Im sure they could think of something if they make us pay for it again.

  10. I have been happy with the positive way dickov has set the team up all season. Today was the first sign he has been negative for me and it was clear that it wasnt working and Southampton were going to win the game after we had gone in front. We didnt string any passes together and when we got the ball we hoofed it in panic up top to noboby... We have not done that all season and just cant understand why we did it today. First half we were having a go and pressuring Southampton into errors and creating opportunities and once we scored everything changed.

I didnt expect anything from the game before today but after 30 minuted i thought we could pick up the three points, shame the players went into Penny mentality. Hopefully it will be a lesson learned and dickov will keep up the positive play

Disagree. I just think he got it wrong by trying to accomadate Feeney. we were going for it at the end

  11. We had a poor 35 mins today and it cost us. I can only assume Tonk went of injured as no way Feeney stays on ahead of him, the slowest player i have seen in professional football by some margin. Jones was poor as was Stephens. Defensivly we only have two weaknesses we cant defend set pieces and we always concede in stoppage time we achieved both of those with the 1st goal from a stupid free kick and the 2nd was from not clearing a set piece aswell.

I think we changed tactics to accomadate Feeney today and that was a major mistake as the guy hasn't shown anything to warrant such belief in him.

Hopefully that is a lesson learnt and we go back to playing Taylor up front against Plymouth who has shown promise playing there.

We were unlucky not to equalise in the last minute but it was nice to see us go 2-4-4 for the last 10 minutes unlike the 4-6-0 we had to endure last season.

  12. Ha – I’d like those same tests done on Kanu; because there was no way he was as young as they said he was when he signed for the Gunners – by my reckoning; he’s at least 40 by now!!! :detectivegm0:

    And Yakubu.......and Obafemi Martins........and........

Is that the same Obafemi Martins who apparently played in the same U21's team as Celestine Babayaryo who was the best part of 10 years older than him.

  13. Turns out he's 19 and not the 14 year old we told them he was and now they're trying to file a case against us.

No wonder he seemed good for his age!

Heard the same a couple months ago after Liverpool did test on his bones and the results came back.

As far as I was aware Latics were totally oblivious to his real age. They should test for everything before poaching our 'young' player's

  14. Christophe came on for cromy.

Christophe started at cb and went up front for the last 5 minutes. Ryan Burns came on for Crompton at half time and had a great game up front even though he is usually a winger, pace to burn (exuse the pun) and very good with the ball at his feet and was involved with everything we did trying to get back in the game. I think this lad has a chance to be involved with the team this year scored 2 hatricks for the youth aswell.

Missed the goal as I was late but the last 20 mins of the 1st half was awfull. some players didn't look up for it and Macc played through us with some good football. 2nd half much better and nice to see Brooke looking suprisingly fit after 2 months out should of won it with the chances we had.

  15. I think this is a bit unfair... Old Trafford has grown around the original ground quite a bit unlike the like of Arsenal who truly have built a soulless bowl...

I watched Tottenham vs Newcastle at Old Trafford and it was one of the best atmospheres I have ever witnessed... The only bit I don't like about Old Trafford is the top of the North...

Sat in the top of the North for an England game and couldnt here a thing because the clapping echos to a stupid degree.

The worst football league ground I've ever been to was Layer road that was a :censored:hole. Current is a toss up between ours and Brighton's.
