  1. Spill then - why was Flahavan dropped?

Don't know Ackey. But i know full well he was annoyed. If your too ill to play you don't get to the game at what ever time the players turn up, have a meeting in the managers office and then leave at 2.45. you either don't turn up at all so not to pass the infection on or you stay and watch the match.

  2. Hang on Ric - you're assuming that what Nava says is true... nothing against you Nava, but it's a big leap from "I saw Flahavan leaving" to saying "Penney never learns" !!

Add to that the fact that you have no idea why, if there was a meeting, he's done it...

I have never said that Penney was wrong to drop him. There may well be a perfectly good reason as to why he was dropped. All im doing is clearing up as to why he was not in the squad. as it says on the os he was ill. well so was Gregan but he played.

  3. His face might have looked like that because he was unwell.

I don't think he can be blamed for our recent defeats.

No he was not ill. he stormed out of the managers office. he was clearly pissed off as he was driving away with his wife and kids in the back. If your ill you would not go to the game at all, never mind leaving before kickoff.

  4. ........not seven months ago, Big Dave publicly stated that our present right back, who incidentally has probably been our most consitent player whilst in tenure of the position, had no future at the club and wouldn't effect the first team!!

Now he's singing his praises at every possible opportunity.........................................funny old game innit ;-)

Add our player of the season to that list aswell.

  5. 2 poor sides who were seperated by a great pass and finnish. Not often said this season.

1st half was dreadful 2nd half was an improvement and most importantly 3 points. not much else to be said really.

Flahavan was not ill either. He drove away from the away directors car park at 2.45 after a meeting with Penney. Face like thunder aswell.

  6. but he hasn't finished yet ...judge him after and onlyafter he has finished his contract ,very few managers become instant hits within the first year ...next year it could be completly different...tick tock tick tock..that's whats needed

I accept that to achieve success it takes time and I expected to be no where near the playoffs this season. What I didn't expect was the constant :censored: that has been served up this season. The majority of signings have been poor ( loans included ) and no signs to encouage us that there is light at the end of the tunnel either.

Whilst I understand that he has another 12 months on his contract you have to take a look at the bigger picture. Is penney the man for the job? well the 2000 fans we have lost in the 8 months this season tell you the answer you need to know.

  7. He has a contract, we may not all like it but he does.

We need all the experience we can get in every quarter of the club for the next 10 games !!

Letting, Penney, Collett and Gray go now isn't the answer imo.

Once we know we are safe or ....... I cant say it, :disappointed: Then the club have to make the decision.

On paper Penney is a good manager, some people perform differently under different pressures.

Penney is a good manager on paper when he has considerable backing behind him which is what he had at Doncaster and at Darlington for his 1st season. He has never achieved any sort of success when on a strict budget like ours.

  8. I think fans can accept a :censored: season. It happens at all clubs. What they cannot accept is the lack of fight on and off the pitch and comments such as 'if we play like that on Saturday we'll win' as Penney said after Tuesday which rubs people up the wrong way as were terrinle for 70 minutes of the game againsts a poor side.

I am not totally convinced by Gannon but i know that he won't stand for and let as many poor/gutless performances go as Penney has done this season.

Unfortunatly we seem to of left it too late this season to change, therefore as things stand relegation looks a good bet.

  9. trouble is..there now caught up in different minds....they openly admit sacking moore was wrong....they bowed to fan pressure

they got stick for getting rid of shez...the club legend with only 9 games to go,even though it was a waste of 2 and a half years

so what do they do now????

the only thing i cant understand,is why the silence from them....they need to either back him or sack him

The difference between this and Moore, is that we were tenth under Ronnie even though it was terrible to watch we were comfy. If they sacked Penney it wouldn't be purely down to fan pressure it would be sacking a manager incapable of doing his job as results and performances have shown all season long.

  10. They would both change positions for the duration of the attack, its just an extra option not being used to full advantage.

Whilst I don't expect us to go all out attack things like overlapping fullbacks and bursts from midfield would give us more options attacking, add width to our game and cause the oppo more problems. After the initial 5 mins or so we lacked ideas everytime we went forward and its clear to everyone it seems apart from the one that matters.

  11. Not suprised one bit by the result or the perfomance today. We should of been battered on Tuesday but we got away with it. Today though we were well and truley ripped apart. From the lack of effort once the 2nd went in to the clowns tactics we were just a shambles. A :censored: centre mid on the right wing when we had 3 on the bench (yes 2 of them have been terrible this season whilst the other has had 10 mins in the 1st team but still?). I can't even think where to start with that one.

Why on Earth did it take him so long to bring Eaves on once we went 2-0 down? At least bring him on for half an hour and bleed him into the team as he looked eager enough once he was on. We all knew the game had gone once the 2nd went in but as a manager of a professional team he has the duty to at least try and get us back into the game not just stand there with his back turned away from play looking defeated.

No doubt the Damage has been done for next season, no matter what happens now. But if we want to save this season from being the worst in recent history the guy has to go now. I was warming to the idea to keeping him till may then getting rid but the last 3 performances have persuaded me I was origionally right and he should go ASAP.

  12. Penney has a fairly average budget for this one I would say and inherited a team that was falling apart and lost it's biggest (possibly only) goal threat.

Thats a pretty fair point. He was also given every new managers wish an entire pre season to get his players in and the majority of players from that team being out of contract so he could start afresh.

  13. Voicing an opinion no problems good or bad Jacko - but please please tell me what good do people believe will come of booing the team at half time and at full time when the players come over to 'thank' those paying fans for turning up after a crucial 1-0 win?

I'm pretty sure it doesn't spur them on - I thought that was what we used to do when we won - regardless of position and situation.

Write to the club, write to the local rag, moan on here - but the abuse that DP and the team got last night imo was wrong.

To be fair the majority of the people singing the songs for Penney to go, applauded the players as they came over as I was looking to see if they would only a couple really abused the players. And lets be honest the players know full well that it is the manager who the fans have a problem with not them. (well the majority of them anyway)

  14. 3 points were the important thing tonight and we got them.

But that performance was shocking I wouldn't of argued had Stockport won the game nevermind drew it, they had the best chances, 2 great saves from Flahavan and a header off the line by Gregan? (it looked like it was goin in but didn't have the best view so will let others decide) Very few chances by us, their keeper really should of saved the pen having got a good hand to it.

We couldn't pass the ball and that had nothing to do with the pitch as Stockport and in particular Perkins passed it easy enough. The forwards were pretty much isolated up front again, Taylor was awful didn't look interested Smalley was a bit better but still not good enough. Guy did well with the turn to get the penalty but apart from being cought offside time and time again didn't show much else.

Overall I thought we were very lucky to come away with the points tonight but i'll take it.

Fans reaction at full time said it all really.
