  1. Surely though, the majority of the people who look on their website and go in their club shop will be Northampton fans not scum, Liverpool Arsenal etc.. so who will buy them?

I cant imagine any of my mates thinking i'll pop down to latics to get my new City, United shirt if we thought about doing it.

  2. I realise the type of fan mr sinnott is now; the type that loveS to slag off our home grown players untill they are a shadow of their former self, and who then go on to complain when we are playing dire football week in week out. The type of fan that drove Neil Eardley out of the club and had before Tuesday helped to reduce Chrissy Taylor to a shadow of the player he can be. On Tuesday and again today he was wanting the ball, cutting inside, finding the pass but also looking to expose the defenders at every opportunity, shame his final product on the two shots was below par. Then he was constantly double teamed but still looked our most dangerous weapon, even w/o a supply line from JJ who seems to think taylor wore yellow today.

How you can possibly say he was fookin :censored:e this afternoon is beyond me. You are not a fan, you are a typical oldham athletic follower. A fan/supporter is one who WANTS the team to perform at their maximum level, however yourself like so many others believe it is a better practice to swagger down to BP and barrack players who want to play for our club. Moaning at Parker / Penney is fair enough, they are a waste of space and don't put in the effort. However complaining about our most gifted and match-winning player is a stupendously pathetic means by which to support our club.

To be fair Mr Sinnott slags off just as many players that we have signed aswell.

  3. Haha....really??????? Brilliant!!! Your post is so wrong on many levels....you've got the wrong person!!! I was far from supportive of Shez!!! Still thought the knobs at MK Scum were a disgrace for singing for his head though!!!

Fair enough seem to remember you posting somthing in a reply to me a few months back saying how wrong we were to sack him.

But fans will show their feelings at a match every club fans do Burnley being another club wanting thir manager out already. Nothing wrong with singing/showing your displeasure during a game directed towards the manager that should not effect the players at all.

  4. I think they got rid of Shez for more than 1 reason. The drinking culture at the time was way out of control and it started with the manager himself. A total lack of discipline didn't help either (star striker deliberatly taking out our star defender in training , Windass, the dogs it all added pressure plus the fact once all this got out the teams performances dropped and poor results followed. Nevermind the countless poor loan signings brought in over the ever impressing youth team like Allesandra. score a hatrick dropped virtually straight away for Ormerod.

Shez lost it in his last 3 or 4 months in charge and i think the few months out did him the world of goodand seems to be doing well at Chesterfield.

  5. penney out

    5 months on nothings changed

    same old crap

doesnt take a genius to see it

we'll stay up, only thing is we need him out before next year

Spot on with that. Yes I think we will stay up only due to some of the :censored: in this league but I don't want to see another season of this. The guy is clueless makes pointless substitutions, plays countless players out of position and continues to play uninspiring football bar a few performances and he seems quite happy with the way things are going.

How many loanees have we had who are suppose to have been our answer to the goal scoring problem? I make it 4 now this season and i think they have managed 3 goals between them. As most people can see the problem for most of the season has been our failure to create chances but its always a striker who is brought in. how about a winger who can beat a man and put a half decent cross in Mr Penney? Taylor no longer wants to know since he won't pass a medical for a move out of the club, Smalley has been poor but the lad is being played up front half of the time when he is clearly not one and Colbeck, well that must be the worst bit of business since we signed Wayne Gill.

When it was announced in the summer that Penney would be the new manager I was happy with the appointment if not blown away by it, as I had seen enough of his teams at Doncaster and Darlington to know that he tries to play football the right way. Well how wrong was I! After Tuesday night I came away from BP thinking that is what we are capable of, if the team is left to playing football rather than Penney insisting on 2 banks of 4 all the time. but today we was back to the same team we have seen for 90% of the season.

Wycombe earlier in the season was the game I decided Penney would never succeed at this club and had to go and since then, very few performances have suggested to me I was wrong. When we play the better teams in this league it is almost a routine loss. We have a couple of chances they score theirs and Penney comes out with the same old comments of needing to be more ruthless in front of goal. We have not won one game against the top 6 ( incase any one wonders the record stands at 8 defeats and 3 draws from the 11 games against them so far) When was the last time we had a record that bad! Infact im pretty sure we have only won twice agaist the top half of the table this season.

All in all this season has been a nightmare and I have never felt as low as a latics fan. Whatever happens now happens, but we have unfortunatly left ourselves open to a realistic chance of relegation and I fear if that happens then that could be very difficult to get things back to the way things once were, especially with the likes of Bury and Rochdale possibly coming up leaving us below our 'little' neighbours.

    Roll on tuesday night.

  6. hahahahah but he was our best player today in my humblest of opinions

Had a decent game for an hour but then totally faded after that.

Not good enough for this level has he has shown throughout his 2 years here. Blue Square standard/ lower league 2 team at best.

  7. Does anyone happen to know whether there's a clause in Dave's contract, allowing Latics to release him without paying compensation, in the event that we're relegated? It would have been a wise move, and would add an interesting dynamic to the situation, if pressure continues to mount. TTA would then have the dilemma of keeping him (and for the record I think they should) until the end of the season and then, if they want rid after we go down, doing it for free, or potentially shelling out to save the season and then being relegated anyway.

    Barry?

There was an agent on talksport who was talking about Liverpool having to pay Benitez £20 million to get rid of him. He basically said that 99% of contacts have clauses in that means they don't have to pay anywhere near the full amount and in Benitez case it is probably less than half of what is reported.

Whether or not this is the case with Penney I think only He and the owners/ Alan Hardy will know this and they won't be making it public knowledge in any case.

  8. This is sooo true.

Smalley is in a complete rut. Taylor is the only winger I've ever seen who can't or refuses to cross a ball. And Colbeck, whilst runs hard and gets stuck in, just isn't cutting it. He only had one opportunity to cross today, and failed miserably.

I can only assume that Simon Whaley was either a worse footy player than me, or that he'd been tapping up DP's Mrs. There can't surely be any other reason why we would turn away a half decent winger.....

It makes you wonder. The only other reason could of been financial and we would of had to get someone out before bringing him in, which will of been a tough job with the way some of them have performed this season. But then again I doubt he's on much at Chesterfield.

  9. Bossed the game?. Jesus what game did you watch??

We are a friggen shambles and our club has cancer.

Pretty much spent the last half an hour in their half of the pitch. Their to centre mids were crap unfortunatly we don't have the players to create clear cut chances Stephens apart, or anyone who can take a half chance.

But we have known this all season but our leader has continually failed to solve the problem.

  10. Played well today and bossed the game for the majority of it, but another loss and another blank.

We created very few clear cut chances when you consider how much of the ball we had.

I know everyone said we expect 0 points from these 3 games but we couldn't of asked to play these 3 at a better time Leeds 1 win in 8, Colchester were poor and we should of won the game if we had a forward who could score, and Norwich have been playing very poor aswell over the last month and required late goals to get results and I thought apart from Holt they were as :censored: as us.

Still I expect our lack of goals and negative tactics for the 1st 25 games or so to be very costly come the end of the season.

  11. My thoughts:

Penney mindset and tactics are to make us hard to score against & beat. As the stats above show; he's been relatively successful in that respect.

It has, however; been at the expense of any semblance of attacking football going forward.

The fullbacks have clearly been told to stay deep and defend outright as the ultimate priority - the lack of overlapping fullbacks this season placed against previous years under Shez has been marked; and is one of the contributory factors of our lack of width; forcing us into a narrow style of direct play.

The 2 in the centre of midfield; whoever it has been; but particularly when it was the Furman / Whitts partnership, have failed to perform as either defensive battlers or creative sparks. Far too many times this season we've been out fought and out thought in the centre of the park. The 2 CM's are sitting far to deep from the outset; meaning they simply don't have time to join in and get to the opposition box. If you could balance that against the fact that they have screened & protected the back 4 and been defensive mainstays; then that's one thing I suppose; but they haven't done that either. Whoever it has been; the CM's have been neither protectors or creators and it has & will cost us. You need goals and assist from midfield; and in that respect we've been woeful this term.

For me, its no coincidence that both Taylor and Smalley have been as poor as I've ever seen them this season under Penney. He doesn't appear to play with width. His "wide men" and I use that term loosely; are expected to tuck in and make a narrow 4 across midfield. Crosses are a thing of the past; as to be honest; it's usually an empty penalty box anyway. Colbeck; for all his limitations; appears to have a decent cross on him; 2 out of 3 times say - but when he was starting; none of his balls in were converted as there were sod-all of his team-mates trying to get on the end of them.

Right from pre-season; many fans highlighted the lack of the much sought after goalscorer. It wasn't and still isn't; rocket science. Pav has been a revelation at times this season; and has been one of the few shinning lights of a pretty dark time, but he has never been prolific in his career and his game is more of link (not target man; that's a different sort) man who can get you 10 a season. That type of player is great; every team needs one (or a target man if that's the tactics) but you need to complement them with a; to coin a Wenger term; "Fox in the Box" type. We didn't have a player in that ilk when he took over; he didn't manage to bring one in permanently; and he still hasn't brought one in on loan. Price; although erstwhile, hardworking and honest is not that player.

With the way we're set up; the 2 up front have to work with each other to create their own chances. They can't rely on crosses or deep-lying runners, through balls or killer passes as we don't play that way. Pav needs an 'on the shoulder' / 'come alive the box' type with him for his flicks, nods and lay-offs. he hasn't had one all season and it looks like he wont either.

Under DP; tactically; we're poorer than under Moore IMO. We're 4-4-2; with rigid fullbacks, deep lying CM's who don't join and fill in, shoot or create, "wide men" who are asked to tuck in and who don't beat a man or cross and 2 very isolated ST's (or 1 if he plays the 4-5-1) who are asked to pull up trees whilst feeding on scraps. Our second leading scorer is Reuben; and he has 2. Say's it all really.

Going down without a fight from here in chaps and lady-chaps!

    Spot on.

Any team thats has a starting midfeild at the end of Feb who have 2 goals between them and one of them came from the spot and the other, when the scorer was playing up front at the time has serious serious problems. I don't believe that it is down to the quality of players though it has to come from the mindset of the manager. The majority of the time the 4 midfielders are no more than 10 yards ahead of our back 4, even when we played well at Swindon (45 mins) and Walsall they were all coming from deep posistions to support Abbott and Price, and had to bust a gut to do so. I'm not saying they should be up there leaving the defence exposed but surley most teams will have players who naturally stay further up the field and allow them to offer options to other players. We simply rely on the front to do it on their own and if we still have the ball by the time the midfeild arrives then the opposition are usually set up well enough to defend the ball.

  12. I didn't go tonight 1st game I have missed since Brighton due to family reasons but the result and the way the performance sounds then I'm not suprised in the slightest infact, I pretty much knew how tonight was going to go. We did ok at Colchetser on sat but didnt score we were :censored: against Tranmere and Millwall and didnt score we have played well this season and not scored, its all coming down to the same thing and the manager has had all season to address this but still hasn't found the answer.

We all knew that the 3 games agaist the top 3 was going to be hard but should we really be going into them thinking 'anything we get will be a bonus'? Going back over the last 5 years or so I and many others have gone to places like Leicester, Leeds, Sheff Wed and Forest thinking and knowing we will get something because we have quality, passion and a bit of belief in ourselves, but this year I go into the games agaist the bigger/better teams hoping not to get embaressed as we show no evidence of these qualities. As I will be doing no doubt by the time Saturday comes round and we play Norwich.

After Sat we have 5 'easier games' coming up but if we get into a losing habbit then we are in seroius trouble especially as we are entering the final quater of the season. Unfortunatly for us all those teams will be thinking the same and will be going into them expecting to win as we have done against the Scousers and Walsall.

Have I given up hope of survival? No definitly not, but with each passing defeat and poor performance I am starting to accept that it is looking like the most likely scenario.

  13. I personally have never enjoyed myself in Manchester whether it be shopping, night out or somthing else, but there has always been this feeling in my head that I wish I was anywhere but here, its a :censored:hole (so is Oldham but its my :censored:hole).

As for Mancs themselves they seem to have this need to prove to people that there someone important, some like to think there 'hard' lots try to think that there gangsters and can get the boys on you if you happen to look at them in the wrong way.

As this topic stems from the move to Failsworth I have found the places on the edge of Manchester like Failsworth and Middleton to be even worse as they try to prove to any one that will listen that they are Mancs by doing there best impression of Liam Gallagher ( 'alrite our kid' is usually the one I'm greeted with even when I have no clue who I'm speaking to, never mind the fact that I'm not being their younger sibling)

Also the accent manages to make the Scouse one sound slightly sexy!!

By the way I'm in favour of the move to failsworth.
