  1. That point neglects the qualities it takes to stand out whilst playing in a crap team... And being largely played out of position too.

Surprised the Gazette didn't mention his dad's role at the club. Surely his dad being at the club and close to him is a key issue. And the fact he's just had a baby too - will they suddenly want to uproot with a future Oldham striker attached to the bosom!

I guess there's nothing to stop us cashing in, but we couldn't if it annoyed Tony P - unless we plan to cash in on his youth coaching talent too...

Or has dad given up on the state of the club and put the word around that his boy is unsettled?? Especially as he has been messed around so much on the pitch. The lad is a striker.

    And/ Or...

Did Corney refuse installments because he won't be around to collect the last 1 or 2 payments?

  2. Barry thought he had been unlucky with the referees decisions when Bradford beat us.

    Corney wasn't there.

Once he was exposed by us and sacked, maybe its easier in future.

Apparently, there is a strong rumour Kelly only held training sessions with his 7 loanees at Halifax whilst his contracted players were at work! The whole squad hardly trained together at all...

Back to fastening shoe laces for the U-12's for Dazza...

I hear Harvey stuck the knife in at the end.

All purely unsubstantiated allegations of course...

  3.

The post above is taken from a thread shortly after Kelly was appointed.

The interviews I've watched have not impressed me and lead me to a similar conclusion.

It therefore puzzled me somewhat that SC had said the board was unanimous, after being 'blown away', following the best list of applicants in SC's 10 years at the club.

Maybe the OP in this thread explains how DK managed to achieve that.

He's an incredibly well qualified football coach, of that there is no doubt and I sincerely hope that helps him succeed.

You don't need to be a member of MENSA to be a football manager..... however you do need to have a level of innate intelligence to manage human resource.... and it's here where I fear he might struggle.

A few things I've been told from the only person I'm aware of that had actually heard of Kelly - a well placed source here in Ireland: "He's fond of the sunbeds" and "he's not the brightest".

When told the deal was apparently done my source said "mad".

I also heard a story about how he was completely unaware of one of if not the most significant chapter in Irish history, but I'll leave that at that.

We're not hiring a historian, and if he likes to take to a sunbed then good for him... It's the "he's not the brightest" bit that worries me.

I trust my source's judgement 100 per cent - but hope he's wrong.

A good mate of mine who knew Darren Kelly very well about 8-10 years ago said when I told him he was our new boss:

You're joking aren't you? Manager? Really?

He was an honest hard working player

He's a lovely lovely lad. A nicer lad you would not wish to meet - probably too nice to be a manager from my experience of him.

I really hope he does well but I'm not convinced, but people change. He would need to.

He is very non-confrontational to say the least. In fact he shies away from confrontation

He is in no way politically motivated

    Good luck to the lad.

I think this sums him up based on what I've seen of him so far from a distance.

That's why I hope he makes it but I have massive doubts as I think he is out of his depth sadly.

  4. It's a decent magazine to be fair but they're predictions are always crap. They had wigan winning the championship last season and have picked sheff utd to go up every year for the past 1000 years, ive not seen the prediction but im confident theyve got them in the top 2 as usual.

I agree, can't see Blackpool going down especially if Oyston accepts the offer or moves into the background...

  5. With the new players and loanees coming in and all the chopping and changing in pre season its a fair bet that the 11 who start at Walsall may not even have played together before......I'm not unduly worried at this stage but we have to hit the ground running at Walsall.

We still need a calming influence in this team, someone who can put their foot on the ball and create an opening,

I reckon Dunn will be starting in the team sooner than he imagined and for me I think there's a fair chance he could even be on the bench as early as next Saturday!

Dunn might be picking the team soon!!
