  1. Mods can we flush out any nasty/personal/unhelpful posts please? There are many other threads for them. Its important for constructive posts and ideas like Bosch and O4U to be aired without fear.

    Agreed.

We do our best to keep things clear - whatever you see is what we miss, we already have to remove far more childish bull:censored: than we should.

But, if you see things use the Report feature and it makes it easier for us to spot and review it.

Fundamentally I ask everyone to keep it simple; don't be a :censored:.

“OAFC” – Oldham Athletic Fans’ Charter (2016)

Key Points to Assist in Achieving our Vision:

    5. We will undertake a co-ordinated programme of visits to schools, youth organisations such as Mahdlo, businesses and voluntary organisations to outline the benefits of getting involved with the Latics and nurturing a sense of belonging.

I commend both your vision and your willingness to put yourself out there. I encourage you, as someone who's been the target of much abuse in my time at the club, to take none of it personally. There's a great deal of pent up anger and frustration and anyone whose head is above water will become a target.

That said, the above point may be best served by talking to the award-winning and well regarded Community team (based at the ground, but technically independent from the club) about their work in the community. Along those same lines a question; given the probable indifference or push-back you will receive from the club how do you intend to research and understand the market place without their co-operation?

  3. Twitterer has suggested the club could put on some free (or heavily subsided at least) coaches for supporters with the money they've bagged themselves from the TV airing.

Would be an excellent gesture, and the more fans they get going to the match the more revenue they get in any case.

Why the :censored: would they do that? The point of additional income is to use it, not give it away!

  4. The structure of the investigation took the format of two meetings, if the individual was uncomfortable with the premise and the tone of the first encounter, then they should have not engaged in the second much longer meeting. Reading the transcripts it appears that there was no encouragement, just pure greed for more money. They've been caught.

Three meetings! Completely agree though, this wasn't a spur of the moment mistake or a deceitfully constructed trap. This was simply "we'll give you ten grand to do something morally and legally ambiguous" and he said yes, and got caught.

I'm not saying any one of us could say, with confidence, we'd not be seduced by the same idea, but it doesn't make it right.

  5. http://www.burytimes.co.uk/news/14750054.Man_charged_after_woman_sexually_assaulted_in_Prestwich/

A MAN has been charged after a woman was sexually assaulted at a home in Prestwich.

Christopher Killen, aged 34, of London Road, Adlington, Macclesfield, has been charged with sexual assault.

He has been bailed and is due to appear at Bury Magistrates’ Court on Friday, October 21.

Shortly before 5.50am on Saturday, September 17 a man entered a house in Prestwich and sexually assaulted a 37-year-old woman.

Police launched an investigation and arrested a 35-year-old man.

Amazing reporting, putting the Rarely Wrong to shame... he gained a year in 4 lines!

  6. Glad you're enjoying it - the premise was astounding, the delivered product less so. There's been a lot of activity in r/gaming regarding Steam refunding players...

They've had a field day over it, have r/gaming. But then that's not unusual it's a pretty hot-headed place at the best of times!

Meanwhile, and technically on a tangent, I've just got Betrayal At The House On The Hill (boardgame) which is proving to be a lot of fun (with a lot of rules) so far...

  7. All music venues need to declare what music is played after each event. If a band plays a set then they have to fill paper work out (or management do) that states what songs they performed and then who the writers where etc. If they do a cover of a track someone else composes then that person gets the royalties.

When it comes to TV, radio etc then PRS themselves gather this information together and asign royalties as a result.

Only the composer, writer etc of a track receives the royalties. If Coldplay decide to cover a track of another artist on their world tour then bingo for that artist as they receive royalties as its there track.

Money just doesn't get sent to random people it's all based on the writers etc of the tracks.

What makes you think the big acts just get money? The big acts are in a stronger place for payouts of course as their music is played more and in front of bigger audiences. So that = more £££

And if your name changes every week for Tax purposes that's your problem of your not getting paid.

Because U2 and Coldplay's label have the resources available to enforce their rights, equally it's harder to get away with playing a U2 song unnoticed than it is the obscure Cheese Indie Euro Rockers that 24 mentions.

  8. We've also been doing alright in the events (it's a stretch to call them "sports") where judges decide the outcome, which just goes to show all the sceptics that the lottery money is effectively targeted.

£5.5 million per medal (or gold, I can't even remember) so far...

  9. Ok so am bored with preseason and clearly this shows just how much but here goes.

In the 19 seasons we have been in league one there have been a total of 496 top six places up for grabs across the football league (ie number of divisions x 6 x 19). Say there has been 105 different clubs in the football league during that time then that means on average teams have finished top 6 on 4.72 occasions.

The average amongst clubs which have been in the football league for the full period (such as latics) will clearly be higher.

We have been in the top six on 2 occasions during that period. I reckon only Coventry and possibly villa will beat that.

Not highlighting anything new just a different perspective on something we already know.

    Back to work

That's not how averages work, sorry.

  10. What station do you go from to get to Surrey Quays? Or would an uber from London Bridge be better?

It's on the Overground line (orange) but don't let that confuse you - it's still part of the Tube network and so you can use your Oyster/Contactless card as normal.

Anyone with a smart phone should grab City Mapper and use that - it'll guide you better than a pre-planned route as it adapts to closures, suspensions and delays.
