  1. Fanfare for the common man will always bring back the promotion/ cup run years in my mind and thats why i'll be voting for that. Makes the hairs stand up... Come on people get voting for that!

Think we should have the option of no goal song though.

  2. Rochdale away 1st round of beer cup. W/C 11/8/8

    I was far too slow!

The glamour tie we missed out on cos they messed up the play offs.

Will be a good day out. Never been to spotland. I would imagine it will be at least half full of Latics.

  3. Well there's 3 new season ticket holders in the main stand cos i didn't have one last year and i've convinced two others to get them who didn't previously. Also picked up my old seat from the lookers that i've sat in for most of the last 20 years. I'm going to construct some kind of frame and turn it into garden furniture!

  4. Out of interest, how long did royle have not ahieving much before he got success. It was before my time but i seem to recall it was some time.

Totally agree with this. We've gone through far too many managers since Royle left -

    1994-1997 Graeme Sharp

    1997-1998 Neil Warnock

    1998-2001 Andy Ritchie

    2001-2002 Mick Wadsworth

    2002-2003 Iain Dowie

    2004-2005 Brian Talbot

    2005-2006 Ronnie Moore

    2006-Pres John Sheridan

  5. Sat there tonight after being given a season ticket by a mate due to a fair few being suited and booted and in the boxes. It's been a while since i've been in the upper section - can only really recall Bolton in the cup and Eyresy's game off the top of my head. Was pretty chuffed with being able to have a bet and being out of the rain but once I took my place with others in the stand - that's where the plusses stopped. At least off the pitch.

The view was pretty impressive and a few familar faces amongst the crowd. There was however, one old man sat behind me who certainly took the biscuit. Racism, Homophobia, and general abuse towards every player (Crossley taking the brunt) was constant for 90 minutes. For the opening twenty or so minutes he just grunted and got overly frustrated at every pass and decision. Then he trudged onto the abuse about Crossley and how he was 'sh*t' and despite yelling at him to kick the ball numerous times, he'd follow it up with - "f**k sake, not with snow on it again." - When Crossley got injured in the 2nd half he yelled that he should be taken off, never play for us again and to "just f*** off."

Now to the racism. I nearly spat out my hot chocolate all over neiladamsheadband in disbelief when he called Constantine a "f**kin wog." - He called everyone faggots, including the team and fans. He got a few stern looks by a few but didnt seem to think he was doing anything wrong. When the 2nd went in he didnt even celebrate and instead shouted - "you're still f**kin sh*t.". Makes you wonder why some people even bother. I intially thought he had tourettes as the outburts came rather randomly and out of the blue. By the 90. I wasnt so sure.

That brings me onto another thing about that block of the NSM. The sheer lack of excitement when we got either penalty. Infact, those of us at the front of the stand where told to sit down. I think that's the first time i've ever heard or seen anyone being told to sit down for a penalty. Not suprisingly. Most at the back of that section didnt even to stand up and celebrate. It made me feel like I had to spend the game wearing a straightjacket. I really do feel sorry for people like AlanGrovesPerm, Neiladamsheadband and others around that area who support the team and offer encouragement in the right way - as there surrounded by a bunch of moaning old b*stards who'd probably be better off staying at home and yelling at the dog.

As for the game. Not the most entertaining but job done. Two well taken penalties by Eardley and a sweetly hit free kick which saw him unlucky not to get a hattrick. Jo Kuffour upfront for them was a handful but 2nd half he did nothing of note. Lewis caused a few problems and his control is spot on. Kalala slotted in pretty well and did what was needed. Football was never going to be pretty in those conditions and cant complain. Bournemouth looked completely zapped of all confidence after the 2nd went in.

I sit near the front of that block. There are a fair few moaners but I've never heard anything like you describe. There is one comical old man who supplies a running commentary on the performance on the linesman in front of us. I do believe it's the best view in the ground and that's why i sit there (and easy access to the bar). In fact in the same seats for the last 20 years!

As for the lack of excitement for the penalties, I think in the first case it was because everyone was completely bemused about why it was given. Nobody around me saw why. Anyone know?

  6. Probably main stand for me and my dad most of the time because you just get a much better view from the side. However for big games where i wish revel in the atmosphere :drinking::drinking::drinking: I'd fancy a day in the roccy road end. So really i'd pick and choose between the main stand and the roccy depending on the game and how the atmosphere looks in the roccy. (There's no option to vote for that!)

  7. But should somebody get on a train that has not be searched then end up being involved in an incident and stabbing somebody that’s ok?

Stop moaning, like I said its for your own safety, its all about intelligence gathering, if your not a threat they wont keep it.

Why do you think your so important or different to the hundreds of fans that go through that every game?

Its people like you that condem the police then moan when theres none about.

Your example is completely different from what happened. If they have grounds to believe that someone has a knife then of course they should be searched but what you seem to be suggesting from your argument is that all people who get on trains should be searched.

You seem to be relying on the premise that all football fans are liable to cause trouble which i fundamentally disagree with.

In fact i think that usually the policing of oldham fans is a fairly high standard. The oldham police generally know who the troblemakers are and only target them. What i object to about this incident is the arbirary way in which everyone who was wearing an oldham shirt under the age of 40 was detained. At the end of the day it depends how you want to live your life. If there was a policeman on every corner and everyone was searched evry time they left the house there would be no crime, but as a society we decide that is too draconian and we prefer to live with a risk of crime but more civil freedom. This seems to go out of the window sometimes if you are a football fan. This isn't about me thinking i'm more important than other people but being unhappy about the infringement of the freedoms of all non-troublemaking football fans to carry about their lawful business without interference from the police.

In view of the data they have taken about me i don't think it should be up to the police to decide to keep it or not given that i've done nothing wrong. They should be (and i believe they are but could be wrong) required to destroy it if i request so.

  8. LOL Section 60 is a b!tch!

If your in a public place especially a train station and being a football fan then expect to be stopped and searched.

Its for your benefit & Safety as much as anyone else's.

If you not doing anything wrong, and you have nothing to hide what's the problem?

I consider it a breach of my civil liberties for details about me to be kept by the police when i've done nothing wrong. I disagree that you should be treated as a second class citizen just because you are a football fan.

  9. Yes i was stopped off the train in piccadilly also. Even though it was only for a few minutes it meant i missed my connecting train to stalybridge and was an hour late. I'm sure they have no right to arbitrarily stop entire groups of people just because they were wearing an oldham shirt. There is a very strongly worded letter going in tomorrow morning. Also i'm planning on insisting that they delete any details of mine that they gained as a result as i'm sure they have no right to keep them.
