  1. True, we have been punching above our wait currently for last few years.

Which we could still do if we was an attacking team instead a bunch of defensive idiots

    Punching above our weight?

I'd say that if we were currently lying 18th in the Championship.

We've had 1 possibly 2 big chances at getting out of this league both under Sheridan and blown them twice. We've been "cutting the cloth" ever since.

  2. Obviously, few on here know what's going on properly at other clubs, but I honestly think we're the Laurel and Hardy of League One. We're a joke. The whole set-up is an utter balls-up. The fans, players, manager, and the owners.

I say Penney's a joke. He's the one I sympathise with. He's scraped together a side which has got so many confidence players it defies belief. His luck has been unreal. The injuries has clearly effected us massively. My main gripe with him: the final third. I haven't seen us this bad in front of goal since I've been going. On Tuesday we had Parker drifting left and Heffernan drifting right. Who's in the box? Nobody. It doesn't take a bleedin' genius to see it. When Abbott returns I wouldn't mind seeing them all up top and use three in midfield, because there's about as much point in a circle as us having wingers out there.

And are we still talking about Sheridan? Why? He had to go. I don't know what was worse, the results or the football. I didn't call for his head, but the Dons disaster was the final straw. Shame, but he had to go. Get over it.

The owners. I don't even know where to start. They're absolute morons. Like Sheridan, they've out-stayed their welcome. They've took us as far as they possibly can. They're out of their depths here. Simple. The clangers they've dropped are laughable. I imagine they've got a team around them - they're berks too! Start with the commercial side of things. I've seen a few lambast that area. My personal favourite is the fact they call themselves buisnessmen; a recession doens't just happen over night. Go to bed, wake up and bang. Financial meltdown. So what did they do? I think we all know. It involves £100,000 and a stand being levelled. I think they're actually embarassed. They were giving a bit of mouth a year ago. They've gone very quiet now. Laurel and Hardy would be proud.

We deserve relegation to be blunt.

I'd agree with most of that, but he has shelled out 100k more in transfer fees than a lot of other clubs have. His negative tactics are woeful. Even when we had Abbott we never had anyone in he box. Worrying times.

We deserve relegation? We're certainly in for a battle anyway.

  3. First twenty minutes last night we looked really good. Yet we still didn’t have a shot on target. Where is the football we used to play at the start of last season? I know Sheridan went but surely it isn’t entirely down to the manager? We looked dangerous on the ball last season we don’t look a threat at all this year. we’ve only scored nine at home!

Why haven’t we got another centre back? Why did we have to play a midfielder that would have steeled up our midfield no end last night at centre back.

Why is Parker on the pitch?

Why is Furman who was full of assists and goals for Bradford playing so deep?

Why are we looking at a relegation battle?

Why haven’t we replaced a very good right back with a half decent one? We have no overlapping which is eliminating out attacking threat a great deal.

Why are we looking at a relegation battle?

Injuries, signed in the main :censored:e. Negative tactics. Wasted money on positions that havent needed strengthening, therefore threadbare in others.

Dan we didnt even go for it in a cup game at home against Leeds, I certainly didn't expect us to go at them in a league game, make matters worse the Leeds side- managed to rest a lot of their first choice players and still win comfortably.

  4. Hooray!!! I hadn't seen this before I'd posted my identical comment!!! The "penney" is dropping all over the place. The naive, the Failsworth followers and a handful of others utterly refute this...although, some are turning now. It's not about our manager and his ability for me...he's been given mission impossible by our owners who should move over now.

FRESH MONEY, FRESH HEART, FRESH IDEAS!!!

    I agree with that.

But what money Penneys had, hes blown it on players out of their depth at this level.

100k on two players is more than a lot of teams in this division have spent overall and they are above us (and some have soundly beaten us Walsall/Hartlepool) I have never seen a team so devoid of any quality nor any idea when going forward and that isn't just down to our disinterested owners, but our manager as well.

The club now is in a complete mess, the run of games after Norwich are huge for us. Lose a few of those and we really are in the :censored:.

  5. Jacobson

    Worthington

    Holdsworth

    Hazell

    Abbott

    Purdie

    Taylor

i'll judge Penney once he's had a run with these 7 fit and in the side.

Quality of the majority of those players? NIL.

Team full of lower league journeymen completely out of their depth playing the most mind numbing football ever. I'd expect us to take the game to the opposition being the home team, but we didnt even try to do that in a Cup game, so not a chance we'd do it in a League game.

    Woeful.

  6. The only plus more Leeds fans, make it feel like an away game, given that our away record is better than our home.

I hope we see a Oldham side with some will and threat going forward, and some urgency. Even in a cup game when 1-0 down we were slow in taking free kicks and throw-ins and in some instances let the ball run out when we could have easily kept it in play and maintained the pressure (well sort of) on the opposition.

Leeds didnt need to time waste that day, we were doing it for them!!

  7. Oh I agree with that... I said as much in chat... People said 16th position was just fine and we should not expect more :petesake:

I dont expect anymore than 16th. And that isn't fine its a fecking horrible feeling.

Its up there with one of the worst Oldham squads I've seen us have. On a par with the McNiven/Garnett/Rickers days.

  8. I'm in my second season with Airdrie United at the moment. Started unemployed, joined them in December when they were languishing at the bottom and narrowly avoided relegation via the play offs. Doing better this season - I've brought in Sam Hewson from Manchester United, Francisco Duran and Daniel Ayala from Liverpool, Michael Mifsud on a free (bangin' 'em in) and a couple of loanees, and I'm 4th in the league after 8 games. I've also managed to beat a couple of bigger sides in the cup - Kilmarnock away next.

    I haven't managed Oldham since CM 01/02...

I tried to sign Ayala but he turned me down the fooker.

I'm currently Shrewsbury manager, signed Leon Knight on a free and flogged him for 120k. Signed Jones on a free transfer from Wolves.

Willy Topp up front is class as already mentioned. Might have to go in for Mifsud, I keep trying to get Fabien Brandy but he keeps rejecting my contract offers.

I'm currently top unbeaten after 20 games.

  9. We're aware that TTA are eyeing their exit strategy with the Failsworth move. With this in mind they were hardly going to break the bank with this season's budget.

I think that this, together with the global recession and a (mistaken?) perception that the division would be extremely strong were the deciding factors that this season would be about survival first and play-off hopes second.

Unfortunately, survival at the cost of entertainment will only ever result in one thing. Reduced attendances.

I do wonder however, what shape our season would be taking if we hadn't suffered such a lengthy injury list.

Points like you have just made (and Prozac) make the signing of Joe Colbeck one of the strangest/worst signings we have ever made, in my opinion.

Exactly how I feel Nick. Not good at all!!

  11. Banging the drum here, but does everyone really think that a striker is the answer to all our problems??

Watched the Leeds match and can't think of one significant cross that went into the box and, from the sounds of things, it was the same today and against Huddersfield. Instead of a striker, we need another midfielder (other than CT) that can create and we don't have that at the moment.

No proven striker will want to come to us unless there is a team around him providing him with ammunition. I reckon Torres would have a job scoring for Latics at the moment.

It definitely would help to address our problems. But I agree the team as a whole has no craft or quality to create chances. Hopefully when Taylor and Smalley are fully fit we will begin to look like we have some threat going forward. Fuman finding some form would also improve us.

  12. It might show that the budget is so tight that we are relying on freebies from a higher level.

    Could be wrong.

Either way, your point looks reasonable.

I thought we were skint then we shell out 60k on a League 2 reserve player.

    "freebies from a higher level"

Give me players like :censored: over Joe Colbeck anyday.

  13. Exactly that man.

Just because a free-kick goes in does not make a great free-kick.

The ever-increasing Clown between the posts set up his inadequate wall from a central starting position; I’ve never known of or seen in the flesh (or on TV for that matter) a ‘keeper who sets a wall like that until Mr Not-So-Brill graced our team.

He set it believing that Roberts was going to hit it, with his right foot; either whipping it in as a cross as he did in the first half when Rhodes got the flick on & hit the bar, or as an outright shot at goal. He didn’t prepare for the possibility that Fat Williams was going to take it as a cross or shot at all. A left footed free-kick didn’t enter his mind; if it did he would have moved the wall over to his right & stood 2/3 yards over to his right also.

Every free-kick we concede that is even remotely within range and I get a horrible sinking feeling; a feeling that we’ll be shipping a gaol in. Its happened Vs Swindon, Hartlepool, Southampton & now Hudds. Teams realise that all they have to do is get in on target with a modicum of pace & it’s a goal.

But its not just free-kicks that he is plainly just awful at; it’s the coming for & then subsequent catching of crosses. He stays glued to his line when he should be out dominating his area; catching crosses before they land perfectly on the head of strikers. Coming for through balls right to the edge of his area instead of letting his defenders make the decisions. He is a hesitant, dallying, useless waste of space with a non-existent footballing brain.

In all my years of watching Latics; I haven’t had as low a confidence in a ‘keeper as I have in Brill; and I include Miskelly et all in that list!! He isn’t up to it; simple as. He was a poor buy; and he is costing us points and it is affecting the whole confidence of the team.

The powers that be need to act NOW; not in Jan; NOW. He is a waste of shirt – but unfortunately the shirt he occupies is arguably one of the most important ones in the side. His gaffs result in goals; and they are costing us. He needs to go & now. Even the 18 year old Josh O would be a better bet at present.

On a related point; can his defenders on here please tell me what it is they’ve seen in him that makes them believe he is up to the job; because I’ve been watching closely all season & I can’t point to a single standout feature of his game that screams to me; yep – you’ll do the job.

I shouted to Martin Gray on Sunday after the free-kick; asking him simply if he saw that Brill isn’t up to it. He raised his eyebrows, puffed his cheeks out & then let his head fall to look at the ground. He walked over to Penney & the 2 of them had a ‘heated’ chat. I can only hope it was about solving the GK spot………….fingers crossed.

I've never seen a keeper that i've played against, seen on telly, seen at any game i've been to do that!!

How can you judge correctly what your wall is covering when you are stood in the middle of your net? No wonder free kick takers have more than half the net to aim at.

I hope to God he surely didnt expect Williams to take it with his right foot, he has a cracking left foot. Scored loads of free kicks in the past.

The guy is more frustrating than Authorization Mismatch on here!!!!

  14. Those players were knocking about non league for a long time before Peterborough signed them, if anyone had spotted their talent early they could have been bought for peanuts.

e.g Boyd 109 games for Stevange.

Mackail Smith 45 games for St Albans, 54 for Arsley, 106 for Dagenham.

McLean 71 games for Aldershot, 59 for Grays.

Peterborough or any other league club didn't move for them when their fees would have been far less.

I can tell you the reason because I have worked in the game, many clubs are afraid of taking a chance on young non league players- prefering has beens and never will be's.

I have already informed Latics about a couple of forwards in non league who I'm convinced would both score 20 goals a season in in Division 1 and cost less combined than Colbeck, but will they take a chance on them - I very much doubt it.

    How was Colbeck today?

  15. I would class us as average. Would you think we are better?

Brighton are unbeleiveably poor. I don't understand why, but they are.

Yep average, and thats being kind.

Got a team of triers and not much quality but if we're pulling out 2-0 results at a ground we dont have the best of records it'll do for me.
