  1. I quite like the look of Jacobson as well to be honest. Purdie may have been a good signing as well but he's been really unlucky with injuries.

Forgot about Jacobson I agree. Shame he's been out injured a lot.. but then if he didn't have that injury record he probably wouldnt be here.

Colbeck may be our natural wide option doesnt mean hes good enough for this league.

Parker baffles me obviously has something about him to score a goal like he did against MK Dons, but my days the majority of the season wtf??

    Gregan-Player of the season.

  2. A Very good; balanced post!

As you say; in previous seasons; going to places like Leicester, Millwall, Forest etc; you knew we'd at least give a good account ourselves and give it right go. We were set up to 'play' under Shez; the way of getting points at that time was to go out, pass the ball and create and score to get us wins. With that mentality of play; it did leave us sometimes exposed at the back (and we also had a fair few individual errors in the mix too) so we did concede as well as score BUT; our draws under Shez were invariably score draws; where we had gone out to win the game but had conceded as well as score.

This season, the tactics and attitude instilled in the players seems to be to set out from the first whistle to not get beat. Away from home in particular; we're playing from the off for a draw. Earlier in the season, I was at the Valley to see the 0-0, and although we had the Reuben / Pav effort chalked off, as a team they were sent out to stop Charlton; rather than to trouble Charlton. It was 10 men behind the ball and Pav isolated up front and defend for lives. At the time in October; I don't think any of us expected that performance to be anything other than a one-off; instead it was a precedent for the rest of the season.

The major issue for me is that if you implement a negative style of play and a 'play for the draw' or a 'play to not get disgraced' mentality for away games; then it becomes the norm carte blanche - home games have gone the exact same way - and therein lies a major problem. Having your season ticket holders, pay on the dayer's and floaters watch a team sent out every other week to simply not get beat is a recipe for disaster for both the points hall and attendances alike.

In a fair few years of watching latics; I don't think I've enjoyed a season less than this one. I posted before Xmas that the only thing that was keeping me coming through the turnstiles was my season ticket; and I think the falling attendances are testament that that is the case for a large number. Put bluntly; £20-£22 is a sum that is far to much to pay to watch a limp, defensive, passionless, negative side play god-awful football.

I don't go along with those who are saying ' these 3 fixtures were always going to bring 0 points' WHY should they? Why should we roll over and give 3 points to sides just because they are up at the top of the league?

Colchester are a beatable side; yes they're 3rd but they looked 1 dimensional at BP and if they have the game taken to them; they are rattled.

Leeds had been on a poor run; Brighton had took a point off them (should have been 3 too) and Walsall had got the win. We should have been looking to compound there poor run and go and play for the win.

Norwich were nearly done by Southend last night so it shows that they are gettable.

Unfortunately under DP the tactics aren't there to go and look for points against the 'big boys'; with the full back set to 'defend' mode and rarely venturing past the half line, with a central midfield reluctant to go beyond and support, with out of sorts wide men who wont take on fullbacks, with no outright goalscorer playing on the shoulder of the last man and with no creativity in the side at all.

The massively worrying thing is that these same tactics and mindset are going to be there for the next 5 or so games; when DP will set us up to not get beat. Make no bones; even with the games in hand; we're in a relegation battle and I see that we don't have the tactics or fight for it.

    Very well said.

Best post i've seen on here for a while.

  3. I'm going to predict 2-0 to Leeds.

For those who have difficulty dealing with probability, that is because I think it is the most likely result. It doesn't mean I think there is absolutely zero chance of us getting a result, just that it's highly unlikely. Nor does it mean I should or will feel any shame about making that prediction should it turn out to be wrong. Just because something is likely doesn't make it certain.

I would say an arse whooping would be 3-0 upwards. I don't think that will happen, but it might be slightly less unlikely than us getting a result.

Depends on the mentality of us going there. If we do the typical 10 men behind the ball and play from the first minute onwards for a 0-0 draw, we'll get drubbed.

Go out and try and be positive for once and play at a decent tempo against a team struggling at the moment and we have a slight chance.

  4. Brill

    Goodwin

    Hazell

    Gregan

    Jacobson

    Colbeck

    Stephens

    :censored:

    Taylor

    Price

    Abbott

Subs: Flahavan, Smalley, Furman, Parker, Whitaker, Lee and a youth defender?

Furman was actually fairly decent at Tranmere.

The constant "benching" of :censored: is baffling behind Gregan and Abbott probably been our most consistent player.

Whenever someone types a line up out like that it gives me nightmares. It is a poor, weak, team.

  5. Too right they do.

There are so many of them who continue to underperform - the three above (although I do see an improvement in Colbeck's play recently) but more so Taylor.

We need these guys to start believing in themselves and delivering on the pitch - before it's too late. :ranting:

I wish they were good enough to be "underperforming"

    They're just :censored:e.

  6. The Leeds game as it was a cup game was the worst this season. We may as well have gone for it that day/night but didn't, and went out of the cup without a whimper. That game we had about 2 efforts on goal, lacked any tempo. One nil down and we were taking our time with throw ins & free kicks. Even letting the ball run out of play when it could have easily been kept in, and maintained some sort of pressure.

"The cards he's been dealt" He signed the players, small budget or not. Hes spunked it on :censored:e.

  7. In tonight's rarely wrong Chron:

Boundary Park chief executive Alan Hardy admitted: “We realise the team is not playing good football.

“I can’t criticise the fans for not enjoying it and we have to find a remedy.

“But, while understanding their frustration, we need the fans’ support.

“The more support we have, the more it will help the club’s financial situation.”

I'd rather send a 20 pound note in an envelope post it through then walk up to the White Hart/Grey Mare.

  8. Do not kid yourself that I attribute any of my comments to you prozac.

I am also not accountable to you.

When you talk about looking nearer to home you need to make sure your own decks are completely clear !!!!!!!!.

Anyway I draw a line under ourt differences which will probably never be resolved given your negative input.

    Barry

I am literally bewildered by that reply.

    What a shocker.

  9. I think you'll find most clubs in our league did that. Thats the way modern football is in the lower leagues, lots' of players on one or two year contracts.

Hmm, of the teams i've seen I can still recognise the majority of players. The only team that has made wholesale changes were Tranmere the only 2 I recognised were Goodison and Moore upfront.

Fair point though. Its probably why I'm losing interest.

  10. Predicted in the summer what would happen under Penney. Some very vocal people on here for his head. Answer me the following then:

How on earth do you expect us as a club to go from targeting players and coming up against the likes of ambitious clubs like Doncaster and Blackpool etc. as we did over the years, to this now...asking the new manager to go bargain hunting, taking players from reserve sides in this league or from Lge 2. Our competitor was Donny in the transfer market, now it is 'Dale!!! We can't even entice that young lad here (can't think of his name) who has decided to try his luck at Crewe!!!

Silk purse from a sows ear...blood from a stone...ain't going to happen. Sing and shout all you like about Penney...I'll judge him once he's given some money to bring in the likes of Heffernan and one or two others with calibre and not some risky gambles which money currently dictates. Either TTA back their man in the next 10 days or...well, I'll be wondering if my cynical League 2 Championship Winners in our 1st season in Failsworth "dream" is the actual plan in motion now!!! I want to be proven wrong!!!

Is signing 10 players not enough though? I bet some managers in our league wish they could have done that. What are we paying this lot with then brass buttons?

With our apparent lack of money you'd expect us to make sure the players we sign are the right ones for the club. 10 players who wouldnt rip up trees in League 2 or 3 players who have that bit of quality to create something/change a game, I know which i'd rather have. What money we have had he has wasted on :censored:e.

  11. Going to buy this soon (been a bit pre-occupied on the ps3), would be decent if we could 4 or 5 of us tics in a network game. 2 nights a week or so?

Lol it didnt work in the end- Hamachi worked for me but not for my mate.

I've signed up to that FIFA league wont have time for both. I'm sure some others will be interested though.
