  1. Probably many reasons. But I get the impression with Oldham as a town that the council and many of the towns folk do not like or want change and do not offer their support to the football club, which surprises me as Oldham Athletic is one of the few things I would wager keeps Oldham on the map.

  2. all this `not match fit ` malarkey is total bullshjt......

it is a total myth and a very poor excuse churned out by many..and believed by too many more in football.

THINK about it.....would you accept a top surgeon botching a routine bit of surgery on you coz he hasn`t "performed that particular procedure for three weeks" ??.

or would it be acceptable that a world champ boxer was `ring rusty` after losing a big fight coz "all he`s been able to do for the last 3 months is merely train for it" ??

or would it be acceptable that jenson button coming in last at F.1 coz it`s been "a whole three weeks since his last race" and that`s why he wasn`t up to pace??

it`s so simples......... we are talking` PROFESSIONALS` here.......even o.a.f.c fall within that bracket and have professional training /dieticians/trainers/physios/managers etc.

anyone, and i mean anyone who chooses to continue subscribing/accepting or believing the utter crap that somehow footballers are `different than the countless other professions in terms of fitness and readiness come match time is as bad as the idiots they are believing.

after so much time on the sidelines recently due to the weather, our so called professionals should have been absolutely bursting with fitness , and ready to apply themselves from the off.

what a load of crap do you play football? Match sharpness comes over time as I can vouch for over the last few months as I have been overcoming a bad injury!!

  3. Constantine was quality good hold player and a decent finisher wish we had siged him

That central defender Lord Kanga was by far and away the worst player ive ever seen in a latics shirt

I agree, Constantine would have been a nice signing, definitely better than the Lord!!

Malongo was pretty awful. Whenever people mention the worst loanies they always seem to list the disappointing ones, who have come in with good reps and not done the business than the real worst loan players we have had in.

  4. Add to that the fact that he signed Steer, McKerr, Ojapa. You can sometimes understand when they are other managers buys but he signed them and then doesnt consider them, although at times we have struggled to field a full subs bench.

This is what annoys me about Penney and was something Sheridan was also guilty of. They have both signed lots of players who just never play, surely they cant be that bad at judgement. In Sheridans last season he had shipped his original forward line up before Christmas COG and Davies, while Penney's star signing Furman is on the bench every week. That is just 2 examples, but there is loads I know not every transfer will always work out but at the moment it seems to be the majority have not for us in recent years.

  5. And why not Tom Eaves at least starting on the bench ?... he could make an impact coming on as a substitute.

At 6' 5" he just might get on the end of one of Dale Stephens excellent corner kicks.

Remember Stephens wasn't even in the managers plans for the first half of the season, and but for injuries may not be in now.

Is he really 6'5"? maybe we will finally have a striker come through with some presence about him.

  6. A few month's back I clearly stated that with Penney in charge there was only one way we were going and he needed to be sacked.

I was laughed off the message board and labelled as some kind of escapee from broadmoor. Like I said then and repeat now......... Penney must go.......... the TTA must go and the whole board must go (A.Hardy) included.

OAFC is being run worse than a conference club and the whole lot of them should pay the ultimate price. The "missing fans" are missing for a reason.

I don't know who can replace Penney but I honestly believe the club as a whole would be a lot better off with a certain Sean Jarvis leading the back room / commercial / office staff. He was only driven out because of one man and he is A. Hardy

    comments please

I'm deeply sorry sir if I laughed at you a few months back. If you post me your bank account details I will compensate you with £1,000,000,000 for all the distress I must have caused you

  7. I agree with you about the budget, but the tactics are unforgivable. Ritchie probably had 20% of Penney's budget but at least we had a go. That's what's getting most people's goats. Sacking Ronnie was a big mistake, we've all had fun at his expense, but personally I liked the guy and renewed my season ticket before his sacking. Serious questions have been asked of the owners, they've been swept under the carpet so people are now voting with the feet - the football's dire but the state of the club as a whole is direr (sic) still...

Just my opinion but I remember coming away from BP in Ritchie's era after many inept performance. So it wasnt all rosy. The difference between then and now is the fans knew we were :censored: back then and staying up was often seen as a bonus. I feel that now there is some misguided expectation that we are one of the big boys, when in reality the quality has been on a steady decline since they backed Ronnie, with Shez getting that team in the play offs.

For whatever reason we have not replaced the likes of Wellens, Eardley and Porter etc. I think that is a mixture of lack of backing from TTA and :censored:e buys by the likes of Shez and Penney which has seen the team get worse and worse.

  8. You don't think there were somehow 6 good/respectable individual performances in amongst that woeful team display last night? I do - Brill, Gregan, Jacobsen (apparently), :censored:, Stephens and Abbott.

But thats what I mean, some people seem to think we should be up there if only we had the right manager but i disagree. 6 good players out of a squad of 20 plus is not going to do very well. Even teams in the league below will have a number of good players. Of course not all the players are crap. Its just most of them.

  9. Why oh why do people want Ritchie back?! He was a :censored: manager too.

The team is crap because the players that Shez and Penney have bought in are on the whole...:censored:e. I dont buy into this there is a good team in there somewhere.

IMO a change in manager will have very little effect. Just like it did last season with Joe.

  10. I just use the view new posts function, so I see all the forums that have new posts on them, and ignore threads or forums that have no interest to me, simples.

Maybe the powers that be could create a view all forums tab when you log on to go above "The Terraces - Latics Forum" which is basically the same function? I think this could encourage more posts elsewhere as I dont think many users view the forum in this way hence the lack of posts on other sub forums. Just an idea but could generate more revenue for the club and still keep everything separate for those who like it as it is.

  11. I have been thinking about this for a while. Does anyone think the forum could be improved by allowing us to post about non OAFC related content here in the main forum?

Like it or not this is the main forum and I bet a lot of users only post or read here and not any of the other sub forums. I feel if we could post about other non-oafc topics we could improve the community on here because lets face it we all have differing opinions on OAFC and a lot of threads turn into bickering and pettyness. Maybe it would allow users to find some common ground in other areas.

This is a serious post, I really do think it would improve the site no end. I do understand why initially the forum has been set up like this but I dont think it works.

It would be good to hear some other views on this, maybe I am not alone in my view?

  12. I am hoping and praying that when we see the Failsworth plans they look more like Oldham Arena instead of this community rubbish being suggested.

Theoretically the stadium could look even better than oldham arena, there were some cracking small stadiums posted in another thread. Sadly though they were all built abroad :( I really really hope it won't happen but I am pretty sure it will look like colchesters or shrewsburys. The only positive from that is that even though they are not great they are a million timed better than BP.

  13. There are many reasons why I think people have lost the faith:

    BP is a :censored: hole

There is no atmosphere at games

    The catering is poor

BP is just full of moaning and negativity

Deep down, we know we cant compete financially to secure promotion

    Too higher expectations

    Too many :censored:ing managers!!!

Which leads to too many players

Short contracts so no rapport built up between players and fans

No signings to get excited about

We've had a few years of being spoilt with good players so the current ones seem average

Too much top quality football on TV makes you realise how :censored: league 1 players are

No patience any more in football everyone wants instant success

    We have no fans

The facilities at BP are non existent

We dont have a proper home end any more

    People dont like Failsworth

People dont want to move on

There is probably loads more too. Its all a bit depressing really isnt it.

  14. It is worrying, but as a keeper myself for many years I think you can categorise keepers

Very Good Keepers - Schmeichel, Southall etc...

Decent Keepers - Given, Friedel etc...

unlucky decent keepers - James, Gerrard etc..

Poor keepers - Robinson, Carson etc..

Lucky :censored:e Keepers - Lehmann, Grobbelaar, Cech etc..

Brill imo comes into the category of 'Lucky :censored:e' keepers, the number of shots that have just simply hit him has been unbelievable as has been the efforts that have hit the woodwork. If that's enough gto keep us in mid-table that'll do for me. BUT he'll have his work cut out on Saturday as the Poolies are always lively at home..

They are all good keepers surely?

Lehmann Grobbelaar and Cech :censored:e

  15. True, but am I the only one that thought Flahavan was nothing special? We let in a few dodgy goals with him in the side - the 2nd v Leeds in the cup-tie was too easy, the 2nd v Colchester he seemed to dive under, the first at Walsall was awful, he could have commanded the area better for KK's opener v Leeds and the first at Wycombe? well I'm sorry but that was just :censored:e! Brill's no world beater but his clangers aside he has kept plenty of clean sheets - particularly away from home.

    Flahavan's league record

    P7 W 1 D 2 L 4 F 6 A 12 Clean Sheets 1 Pts 5

    Brill's Last 7 Appearances

    P 7 W 3 D 2 L 2 F 6 A 5 Clean Sheets 4 Pts 11

Stats don't lie Carl and apply Brill's stats to the last 7 games and we'd not be in the steaming pile of :censored: we are!

Stats do lie, your implying that the Goalkeeper is the sole reason for those stats!

Do those stats correlate with Abbott being in the team? I would wager they would be quite close.

  16. 02/03 for me, in 06/07 we limped into the play offs and I fully expected to get a thrashing from Blackpool. In 02/03 I felt we had a real shout and was gutted when we lost to QPR. Plus for me that season was the best I can remember in terms of the quality of the other teams, some great players in the third tier that year. I think this season is strong too for other teams, its a shame we are not part of it.

  17. I take issue with this... That "god awful squad" had been fighting for promotion all season. If that was "god awful" what the hell is the current setup ?

Doing slighty better during the first half of this season than the 2nd half of last.

If anything Shez got the squad playing well above itself during the first few games of last season. Who knows could it have been the momentum gained from that superb comeback vs Milwall on the opening day? Its all ifs and buts but what is clear is that over the course of the whole season the squad was no way near good enough for promotion. And we werent really "fighting for promotion", that makes it sounds like we were going for automatic, we were fighting for a play off place.

Did you bury your head in the sand for the 2nd half of last season, we were woeful, even before the second half of last season we turned in some very poor performances. Maybe it was wrong to sack Sheridan with a small number of games to go, but the crowd had turned on him, the team was in free fall and I guess the TTA decided to take a gamble on Joe coming back which did not work. If you factor in all the off field problems too, then it was pretty obvious that something was not right.

I dont think we have had a squad geared up for promotion since Shez's first season in charge to be honest, players like Wellens and Porter have not been replaced to this day.
