  1. You have to remember that Penney inherited a god awful sqaud. The 2nd most off form team in the division in the 2nd half of the season and we got pasted 5 0 by the most off form team before Christmas had even come. I think our players get bigged up a bit too much sometimes. By the end of Shez's reign we were :censored:e.

Saying Penney has the same budget as Shez is stupid anyway. Overall it may well be the same. He has had to inherit a number of Shez's players still under contract. I would expect some of those who are or have been regular first teamers to be amongst the bigger earners at the club too.

It would be the same if Penney got sacked at the end of the season and the new manager had the same budget as Penney, he would still have to put up with the players Penney has given 2 or 3 year contracts to.

The only way to really see exactly what Penney can do with the same budget would be if all the players were released so he had the whole budget, or, and here is a novel idea, GIVE HIM ENOUGH TIME to completely overhaul the squad and add to the players he has bought in and then see what happens. Then if he fails fine get rid, at least he and us will know he has had a fair crack at it and not been up to the job.

  2. Lee Hughes had just spent 3 years in prison, was 31, and was probably greatful for whatever he could get. When he went down, he was a Championship player.

Marcus Bent is 31, currently a Premiership player, and hasn't been in prison the last 3 years. No comparison.

Why do you keep putting this stuff on here? I don't really get involved with these annoying posts, but it seems you really have no idea about football, or your opinions are just based on your 4th season of Champ Man. Think before you start typing, and think, "will people like this topic? is it true? is it at all believable? or will it just annoy a load of people and give me a reputation?"

Anyway, I wouldn't have him, poor mans Chris O'Grady

haha lighten up he brightens up the messageboard and if by some small chance he is serious with these posts it makes it all the funnier!

  3. Another load of crap. I doubt Penney would swap the shopping delights of where he lives in leeds city centre for oldham somehow.

We also dont require a 17yr old left back as we have two ourselves and a 17yr old is not ideally the experience DP is supposedly looking for.

If you're gonna post crap at least make it believable

It's 110% true ask Penneys wife she was there too.

We also maybe resigning Brett Ormerod just spoke to his brother in Currys Digital in the Arndale centre.

  4. Win our next few games with ease and we'll be on the bounds of the top 6, then we always win the big games so we'll win some more, then with momentum we'll make the top 6. Then being the form team we should cruise the playoffs. No cups or anything to worry about like the FA CUP & JPT, really good planning on DP's mind there. So with a few wins we'll be the leagues form and danger team. We've a team full of battlers who give 100% and will fight to get us promoted as you can tell by the bookings table. We've the best player outside the Prem, tats to come back, one of the greatest strikers in this league Pav to come back, not mentioning holdsworth, jacobson, o'grady, parker and many more to come back, we'll have a strong in depth squad. 4 goals, 2 unbeaten and a big attendance in the lsat game at BP all point to a great run. the bookies are such mugs, ill be getting a big bet on us to get promoted, winning the league i agree will be a bit far fetched, but promotion looks a distinct possiblity.

Mate we are already promoted, doesnt matter about results the football league says we have the best players, managers, owners and more than anything the best fans so they are going to put us in the championship next season. Merry Christmas

  5. Fair enough if no one in Failsworth supports Oldham or thinks they are Mancs, but at the end of the day it is still in Oldham and its not that far from BP that current Oldham fans should be considering not going. Thats the thing which I am finding baffling TBH. What is it? 3 miles down the same road? I know I go past it on the bus from Manchester and it must only be 10 minutes away from the current ground. If it was a lot further away I would understand people hang ups, but its a big development, if the only suitable place is a big site on the outskirts of town this shouldn't be a big surprise.

I would have thought if anything attendances would rise made up of the existing hardcore, a number of those who have drifted away, curious locals and free local kids. It really makes me wonder if some people who say they will not follow the move to Failsworth actually support Oldham Athletic Football Club or if they just use it as tool to moan at and about. To be honest I think that those who are shouting the loudest about not wanting to move to Failsworth are probably the most diehard fans who, when push comes to shove will be the first ones snapping up tickets at the new ground because Oldham Athletic is their number 1 priority in life ( I hope so anyway otherwise its worrying!)

  6. If you get to piccadilly by 2pm you can make it for a 3pm kick off by bus but you will be cutting it fine. Go to Lever Street and get 181,182 or 24 to Rochdale which take you within 5 minutes of the ground. It takes 10 mins to walk from the station to Lever Street and there should be a bus around 20 past.

Otherwise get a taxi if there is a few of you it should cost similar amount in black cab as the bus. Id run the meter or they may rip you off. Sometimes they say its too far for the meter but thats bull:censored: I think to get you to pay more.

You can also get regular buses from Oldham Street parallel to Lever Street to Oldham bus station and jump on another bus or get a short taxi ride to the ground.

  7. Heres another nice one with a small capacity I have heard good things about before

    HJK Helsinki.

    http://www.uefa.com/competitions/woco/venu...6106/index.html

Edit to say I think even if the capacity is 12k and people wanted it to be more at 16k, the design could play a big part in warming to the smaller ground. I think a nice 12k stadium would be much better than a Shrewsbury/Colchester style one with 16k, however I am expecting a 12k Shrewsbury/Colchester style one:(

  8. For me its not too much the cappacity that worries me , i just want to be proud of it .

It needs to look origanal and not another shrews or colchester .

I know this links been on here before but some of the stadiums on it are impressive and all under 20k ,

Theres is a lack of pride around BP at the mo , give us somthing to be proud of .

Not seen this link before, Some good ones on there - I'd be ecsatic if we did something like the Molde Ground.. Same size aswell. After reading through the topic someone else picked up on the fact that the small grounds being built in England are very poor in comparison

Some great looking small stadiums there, it would be nice to follow suit. I wonder why the English ones are so basic? High cost of land so less to spend on the stadium?

  9. Anyone remember Neil Danns goal for Blackpool? at BP, one of the best goals I have seen in the flesh, I seem to remember he got a standing ovation from most of the crowd so it must have been pretty bloody good:)!

On a side note, anyone think things like that have died out of the game? Clapping opposition good goals/opposition keeper when he comes to your end?

  10. You're talking about two reletively young kids though. They're nowhere year their prime, and both show lots of potential.

It's just whether you fulfil that and kick on. Chris Taylor has, by bursting on the scene, going through a period where he looked like he wasn't improving, before kicking on and looking much more of a goal threat. The others have to knuckle down, but I'd not rule them out being a success just yet.

    I agree.

If I was to stick my neck out, I would say Smalley will have a long professional career and Alessandra wont. It would be great if they both did though.

  11. True. I wouldn't mind making him ours though if that option's open in January. (Doubtful to be honest).

Difficult to say how good Alessandra could be, but you're dead right about that chat.

I just dont think Alessandra is stong/quick enough or has enough confidence/desire to play professional football at our level. Would love to be proved wrong but cant see it.

I sometimes wonder about Smalley too but believe he does have the desire to go with his ability. He gets slated a lot on here but I believe its more inconsistency from a young player who gets moved positions a lot.

  12. I am not sure of the reason but on a different forum there was a thread about the Irish or Northern Irish League and a few tips which paid off good. I think there maybe a bit of match fixing in one of these leagues so worth keeping an eye on.

Study a lot of European Leagues there is a hell of a lot of match fixing going on there. I have heard this from 2 very heavy sports gamblers. One guy was making a packet off football betting but lost it all on the horses the idiot. The other a Greek friend showed me his betting on Italian and Greek leagues a few years ago and he was very successful. I know the Italian match fixing scandal has come out but I am pretty sure they will return to form. One example he gave is towards the end of a season if a big team needs a win and a smaller team is safe in Serie A they are likely to throw the match, same with the big teams in Greece.

The Greek lad also made a shed load on live tennis bets.

I dont have the money to gamble at the moment which is good because I do enjoy it and usually lose:)

  13. Didn't hear anything about that, be a shame if it did.

Pissed off with the state of football at present and have been for a good few years now like im sure many others have. Too few have a stranglehold over many, with most of the money coming into the game being pumped into the top there's a never ending cycle. God forbid there be a shake up of the status quo, the attitude is all wrong in this country. The other year for example, the FA cup final between Portsmouth and Cardiff, made a great change to see different teams in the final. I was in my uni house at the time with my prem team (two city, one spurs) supporting mates. They balked at the fact that it wasnt between any of the top 6-8 of the premier league and were worried it was going to be a poor game. Albeit it wasnt the best, but neither was the 'dream' final of a year before between Scum and chelski. For me any game of football in such a big game has the potential to be a 8,9,10 goal thriller or a bore draw, it shouldnt matter whos playing. The point i make here is that i get the feeling there seems a good number of people that would wish football to stay currently as it is and the trophys only divvied out between a select few. I suppose its not so much the ones in the system at fault, its the system itself that is broke and is exploited by those in a strong enough position to do so. Im all for something like a salary cap in our leagues and worldwide, for example:

Prem and worldwide top leagues = 25k a week the most

    Champ and equivalent = 15k a week

    league 1 " " = 5k a week

    League 2 " " = 2.5 k a week

Wages decrease and increase with relegation/promotion.

Its not perfect and the numbers are a bit plucked out the air but the general drift is that something needs to be done before its too late. However i fear, as others do, that it will be too late before anything is!

I agree that worldwide salary capping could be the answer. Although I think they would have to cap it high to get any of the big clubs interested, probably higher than the biggest wages now.

Am I right in thinking salary capping came into NBA during the last 20 years due to ridiculous wages? I seem to remember seeing something on this when I was younger.

  14. I start a new job in January and it involves organising events trips etc for foreign students coming to Manchester, by all accounts many of them from South East Asia are footy mad and sadly obsessed with Man United.

I was thinking of trying to organise a trip to Fortress Boundary, so they can sample a real football match and was wondering if anyone had any good ideas on the best way to do this.

I was thinking either taking them along on my usual match day experience or maybe seeing if I can sort out a porter cabin or box thing and maybe seeing if I could get a tour round the club.

I have never been in the porter cabin things in all my time at Latics so have no idea of what the day is like or how much it costs. I will of course be getting in touch with the club but it would be great if anyone has any input on the matter.

Hopefully we can maybe win some new fans through this:)
