  1. The club will never, ever expand any small stadium at Broadway, because setting the capacity at only 12000 indicates that the aim is sustainability in the lower divisions with, at best, brief Scunthorpe/Colchester-type brushes with the second-tier,* which will not necessitate any expansion.

Think about it. Of our Lancashire town neighbours (and Stockport), all those in the top two divisions have stadiums with almost or more than twice a 12000 capacity. All those in the lower divisions have stadiums holding 12000 or less.

I don't mind having to keep repeating these obvious points.

    * Which will not materialise because downgrading your expectations never results in any kind of success. For those two clubs, being in the Championship relegation zone for a short time before being relegated again is actually unprecedented success. For us it isn't.

How do you know for sure? Ownership will change in the future. Maybe a new stadium will attract richer owners? Maybe someone will see being closer to Manchester as an opportunity?

  2. He had 2 decent seasons then 2 pretty poor from memory - he had to sell the best players. The difference was Latics were in the 2nd division (championship) which was enough to keep people interested eg automatically 3rd round FA cup. Also there were no messageboards.

Ah yes I can see why a manager would be given time in the Championship! Although looking at Pboro maybe not these days!

  3. Pity, by the way, that the club's current plans ensure that we'll never get average gates of 14000 again. Or even any gates at all of 14000.

    Isn't it?

They may be able to expand? Not saying they will just that its a possibility.

Plus would we have averaged gates like that on modern prices? Isn't football more expensive these days ignoring inflation.

  4. Its down to the manager. An outstanding manager will turn things round, even with limited funds note especially Brian Clough in his first managerial job at Hartlepool. Latics successful times have been under Jack Rowley (1st time) Jimmy Frizzell and Joe Royle. Well meaning though some of the other managers may have been (eg Andy Ritchie) none have been in the same class as those three. It is still too early to judge DP but there needs to be some good news and results soon or I fear this time the downturn could be for good, due to the completely different and imo unfair current structure of football

Before my time Joe joining the club but did he not start off badly? I think he wouldnt have lasted with our current fans.

  5. Been told that he is the man penney wants because he is a goalscorer this move will be confirmed tomro remember lee hills gone back to palace so we may well get left back in for him also.

Donny fans are saying he on way to oldham because some fans have asked him today he said oldham are in for him and am glad penney has seen the problem and will act fast to save oldham season and his job with oldham.

    :imnotworthy::imnotworthy::banana3::banana2:

I swear you are really simon corney

  6. Dave Penney:

    Pros:

    Organised team

Good team spirit (off the pitch)

Has got the best out of the team.

    Cons:

    Offer nothing in attack

    Made some very questionable signings*

Hasn’t got the best out of individuals

    * Brill – less said the better

    Parker – awful

Worthington – Just seems to run around getting booked

Holdsworth – definitely no replacement for Eardley

Colbeck – seems to be improving but still not adding anything to the team.

    Harsh on Worthington and Holdsworth

    Worthington is injured

Whoever came in for Eardley was not going to be an adequate replacement unless we splashed a few 100k. He was a class right back especially at our level despite what a lot of numpties following us seemed to think.

  7. The forgotton man?

I'll be honest, before i saw that article on the official site today, i forgot we had him, hadn't crossed my mind for the last month or so since he disappeared to Chester. Another decent prospect (and still is) thats slowly faded away, is he still with us or still at Chester?

Maybe that says more about him than us? (prospect thats faded away i mean)

As a club we have shown that youngsters with the right attitude can establish themselves in our team.

  8. Who do you people want in instead of Penney? Genuine question!

I'm guessing it will be someone along the lines of Royle ? Ritchie ? Sharp ? Maybe give Dux ago ? Paul Warne he had the heart?! Give Shez a 2nd chance? Its gotta be someone with blue blood running through their veins though yes?

  9. Saturday's equaliser was our first headed goal of the season! Unbelievable!

    Pav 6 - 2 outside the area, 2 tap ins, 2 pens

Parker 2 - 1 goal line tap, 1 effort just inside the area

:censored: 1 - Strike inside the area

    Lee 1- deflected cross

Blackman 1 - Cross come shot

    Sheehan 1 - deflected drive

    Whitaker 1- half volley

Rubes 1 - far post side foot tap in

    Taylor - Penalty

    Brookey - diving header!

Our last headed goal prior to Brookey's was Rueben's v Crewe on Easter Monday! So a combination of a lack of crosses anda lack of bodies getting in there. Hopefully a 'corner' has been turned..

To be fair mate that stat doesnt surprise me at all it is not like we have a wealth of tall, physical players who are good at heading the ball. Thats why we are rubbish on corners. I was pleasantly surprised that they were mixing up the corner routines vs Colchester and they nearly resulted in a goal a couple of times.

  10. If that’s the case why do we support oldham? we are :censored: and soon will be in what everybody considers to be... manchester!

Its a mistake for us to move, the clubs that have moved to new grounds and been successful also had substantial investment in the team and it was a snowball effect.

The owners don’t have the money to move and invest in the team.

    They want a quick sale.

If you can tell me one club that has moved to a new stadia and been successful without substantial financial backing in the team or had a substantial core support or already in the top flight, I will buy a season ticket!

When your sat in your new small stadium watching poor players sitting amongst strangers however few people may be there, then you will realise the importance of keeping your spiritual home and holding on to the things that are important.

I realise this club must get with the times but IMO this should be redevelopment of Boundary park.

First a new stadia then a new name what next? The owners are not here because they Love Oldham Athletic they are business men.

I support the team. Not the ground. It makes no difference to me playing 10 minutes down the road.

So what happens in your alternative reality where we stay at BP and cant afford to redevelop it?!

Where are we getting the money from to redevelop it?!

Where are these magical owners with tonnes of cash who love Oldham Athletic?!

These are genuine questions...There is a lot of anti Failsworth talk on here but please someone give me a REAL ALTERNATIVE. Not some alternative reality that some one has made up in there heads. I want to hear something with real substance.

You want us to stay at BP and redevelop. Please tell me how this is going to be achieved I would love to know. Where is the money coming from for a start?

  11. I've been saying 4-2-3-1 all season!!

Would you consider Brooke, instead of Blackman now, though?

He's only been given 5 minutes at the end of games, with hopeless balls being punted up to him all season!

Maybe a run in the side would get him going?

Not over Blackman at all! Blackman played very well and was involved in getting the ball down so we could play, something we have missed of late without Abbott.

  12. Was the commentary misleading then? It sounded like we had a lot of the play and several good chances in the first half, and got hit with a couple of sucker punches? TBH it's good that we are even making chances, got to do that before anyone can finish them.

IMO we played well for most of the match, passed it around well the amount of negativity I have seen on her surprises me a bit, although it really shouldnt

  13. Part of the problem at Latics is the depressingly low expectations; a lot of the fanbase appear to measure how close we are from sixth as a yardstick of success, whereas not finishing in the top two is considered failure for some of our rivals.

Surely you have to take into consideration the players you have to measure success?

If I really believed that the players we have could get into the top 2 then I would set my sights there but not with this bunch I am afraid.
