Yes it was hysterical how both Hazell and Gregan ball watched while their two strikers followed in. Crossley should have dealt with it but he wasn't the only one to blame.

Yes, I think that's fair comment.....And also, a fee of £200,000 for Clarke may be acceptable but his quoted wages (if true), of £7,000 a week, clearly are not. It's a balancing act and ain't easy.

There were THREE defenders on the box, two in the middle, one closing down Davies. Davies did the right thing, to square it the Hughes he'd have to hope the ball beat the three defenders and somehow found Hughes.

Yes,but Hughes was clear of the other two defenders. Not only that,Davies was at a tight angle and tried to beat the keeper at his near post. Wrong decision but then Davies seems to fall into this trap all too often. The lad has talent but needs to channel it better.

Oh what memories. I seem to remember when we signed the left back John McCue (from Stoke, if I remember correctly), we changed one line of the song to:

"Branagan and McCue at full back"

 

And when we signed Colin Whittaker he went in as the wizard of the wing. Colin was another class act ,I well remember him slamming in a goal at the Rochdale Rd end which stuck behind the stanchion,the keeper never moved.

 

My 5 year old grandson would have been Jack's great grandson had the great man lived. Sadly Jack passed away in a nursing home suffering from dementia.

Ah yes, Quixall the "Golden Boy". He of the dodgy knee, which seemed to be more dodgy than usual prior to long away trips. Buchan with the largest arris ever to grace a pair of Latics shorts. All he ever did was point to where he thought other Latics players should go. Garbage the pair of them.

no more rollockings from gregan when something goes wrong-when he should have been doing his job to prevent the said happenings instead of waiting to point his finger.

pace DOES come into it.saying otherwise is just cluching at straws-hence your wild bobby moore comparisan-moore was a bloody talented defender-his tactical awareness was his greatest asset-to the fact he was captain of england in 66 and beyond...but to use him as an example to why gregan doesn't need pace and still be brilliant is laughable.

 

the point that fans at the moment are not missing gregan and that players like trotters,ruby,stam are excelling in his absence,puts gregan firmly at number 4 choice...until there is a suspension/injury/bad game by the first 3 choices,he'll have to wait patiently...then prove his worth to keep his place-like trotters has...like ruby has...like stam has!

Be happy then son because you are clearly deluded. Gregan is the best centre half at the club. Lack of pace ??? Wow-ee !! This is the third division,not renowned for pacey centre backs. Where we fell down last season was having two slow men in Gregan and Haining. I don't recall Bobby Moore being a sprinter but then all he did was win a World Cup.

Just introducing myself. Long time Latics fan, saw first match back in 58 (I was 7),becoming a regular following season. Live in sunny Royton now but have been resident in Holts Estate and Clarksfield. Spent a good 25 years of my life following Latics away,but only attend home matches now. Fave drinks are classic English ale and red vino. I hate Man U.
