It's the managers job to motivate the players
Are the players that pathectic they can't motivate themselves ? I've got changed in derelict farmhouses, back of vans and played on cinder pitches just for the love of the game. No motivation needed.

When Whitaker was in form at the start of the season what position where we in the league? Suddenly Maher is the creative genius in the team and look at our recent results. Whitaker played abysmally last night, but if we go in to the playoffs (which is looking increasingly unlikely) with Maher as the playmaker do you honestly believe we will be successful? As for your comment about the cr@p coming from my gob. Congratulations on stringing a sentence together. I found your post very interesting and informative.
Which is more than I found yours. Maher set up both goals in our previous home game and set up the first goal at Yeovil. Obviously not creative enough for you but it will do for me. If you don't want daft replies you shouldn't make daft comments like "I've done more 'creative' cr@ps than Maher".
-
I've done more 'creative' cr@ps than Maher.
And they're all coming out of your gob.

2nd yellow was for kicking at the back of their player as he sped away. ref was right behind them.
bad mistake by hazell for us. good header by terrible forbes
Fleming wasn't blameless, he got too close to Hazell. He has got to learn to controll his dashes off the line, it's not the first time it's cost us.

LD " Whos in and whos out then in your masterplan away team"
JS " Well Ive threatened to change it as some players just dont do it away from home, but lets keep it the same. Im positive Danny Whittaker will come good some time. By the way I heard someone mention Dale Stephens in training, do you know who he is?"
LD "Yes John,Stephens is the young lad we signed from Bury and we carefully explained to our clotheared fans that he was one for the future and maybe not ready yet."

It was with great sadness and shock that we have learnt of the death of our friend, fellow fan and Trust Director Jim Whittingham. Jim died this morning and our condolence goes to his wife Maureen and his family.
Jim was a valued member of Trust Oldham and with 44 years service working for Oldham Chronicle an important member of the Oldham Community.
Oldham Athletic have not just lost a fan, we have all lost a friend.
RIP JIM
Your friends at the Oldham Trust and the Oldham Community
Very sad to hear this.RIP Jim.

Once again a pro Lomax post has to include anti Eardley nonsense
Agreed,no need to bring Eardley into it at all. Some fans just can't resist sticking the knife in even when we win. Just be happy for once can't you ?
-
I remember the 2-2 well. Pitch was a mdbath with a 1ft square oiece of ice which Burketts clearance landed on.
Scary thing is its 42 years ago......now where did they go ???
Man of match was one Bobby Moore who was awesome defensively that day
Jim Standen also played cricket for Lancs I think
and came on as sub for England in at least one test match. Deliberate mistake...it was Reg Blore.
That was the team at the start of the Bates era .
Funniest incident in that game was when Alan Lawson dropped John "Budgie" Byrne in the centre cirlcle. Lawson got up first leaving Byrne sat on his arse complaining to the ref. So Lawson promply stood on Byrne's hand.
Classic Lawson.

that central midfield is being over-run.
Couldn't agree more Tony. Maher should have been brought on early second half for me. Every home game recently has been the same. Our two central midfielders against their three. It ain't rocket science.
-
I was right in line and from my seat it looked like the cross was spinning behind the forward and he went over trying to adjust his position. I would like to see it again but it appeared innocuous. Also the forward didn't look to appeal.
It was one of those Mike, 9 refs out of 10 wouldn't have given it but Stam's arm definately came out and nudged the lad. The annoying thing is though, how many times has Hughes been clattered in the box and nowt given ? Same old, same old.....NO CONSISTENCY !!!
-
Does anyone actually know what it was given for?
Watched it on the Championship, he didn't even go down, FFS!
A push by Stam.
-
Absolutely not!!! And the face has got more hair than me. However, the nose has been a similar colour on more than one occasion.
Regarding the dip in form of other players, I have wanted/still want Smalley/Lee to play instead of Liddell, Fleming on occasion instead of Crossley and Maher instead of Allott recently.
We have a squad that we should be using whereas in my office, if I have a problem then I delegate to other members of my team while I sort things out.
I know that people will argue this point and they are entitled to do so, but I have seen 3 of the last 4 games realise 9 points when Stam has played and we get 1 point in the first game he doesn't figure in. No coincidence from my perspective.
Another point from which I'd like your thoughts was the vote for Gregan against Northampton when he only came on for a minute and didn't touch the ball. How does that work?
I'm starting to wonder if Ruben Hazell donned a Sean Gregan mask and that's why you're blaming Gregan for Brighton's goal. They scored because Hazell went walkabouts, end of.
-
What was your view when Gregan was skinned on the touchline and then a minute later gave the ball away cheaply only to be rescued on both occasions by Hazell?
If Mr.Can't do no wrong wasn't too far upfield and out of position by a good 3/4 yards when they scored then he might have been in a position to rescue Gregan.
-
He's not someone who'll come off the bench and grab the game by the scruff of the neck is he?
No he isn't,he was put on to allow Whittaker to move forward and support the forwards more. It didn't work i'll grant you.
-
Ans as long as the answer is Gregan, then it will have served its purpose?
It will have served it's purpose no matter who wins it because then we'll know who people on this forum think is Latics best defender.
-
Remind me what that is
Just a blind guess perhaps but I think it's to find out who people on this forum think is Latics best defender.
-
After debate with a few board members who don't believe Sean Gregan is our best defender I am interested to see who the fans as a whole consider to be the best.
Thought it was a no-brainer myself but maybe I'm wrong!
It's a no brainer OK. Gregan by a mile.
-
Should have saved the first one ... a more agile chap would have done. But where the hall was Gregan? I saw Hughes blamed for this goal on another post. Well, as he was stood in the centre circle he was either a tad out of position or not responsible for it!
I think a well placed (lucky) long ball falling between Gregan and Crossley was the cause of the second. Although Gregan stopping chasing cost a chance to cover back and maybe clear off the line.
Hughes not coming back with their defender (who scored) was criminal. Whether or not Hughes was under instruction not to come back is another matter. The fact he didn't was crucial I'd have thought. Or is leaving a free man up front the norm ? Given our record of conceding at set plays perhaps it is.
-
"Not sure it was Gregan's fault though - he'd have been picking up one of the forwards"
At last ! Good to see not all posters on here are blinkered. How many players is Gregan expected to mark ?
That's the second time in three matches that a totally unmarked centre back has scored against us, and some believe it's all Gregan's fault. You couldn't make it up.
-
"Undone from a set piece yet again for the first - Greegs going walkabout"
The goal was scored by a defender, who should have been marked by Hughes. Hughes went walkabouts not Gregan.
-
Fantastic distribution for the second, then another sublime piece of distribution for the third.
He played well, not too surprising since he's a good player. He's been around a while but still hasn't turned 20 and is still learning. Well played Neal but woe betide you the next misplaced pass you make.
-
"Gregan was 100% at fault"
Since it was a central defender who scored Gregan was certainly 100% to blame for being naive enough to think one of our dimwit strikers may have been marking Morrison. Or aren't our strikers expected to do such menial tasks as that ?
-
...........time to go, bring Kieran Lee in!!!
Time for you to have a few beers, smoke a splif, and when you've calmed down, reflect on what an absolute tit you are.

Why do the supporters of the rugby club have an antipathy for Latics? I know one rugby fan from Shaw who went to the Rochdale game; he went in with the Rochdale fans (he doesn’t support them) & wanted them to win. I asked him why he wanted Rochdale to win and he replied “because I’m a Rugby fan”. He is born & bred in Oldham.
Various reasons I suppose. My uncle was an avid rugby fan and always resented the fact that after being top dog in the town in the 50's, Latics started getting 20,000 plus crowds in the early 60's. He always vowed Rugby would get to Wembley first so he wasn't exactly happy in 1990 either. And then when we got the the First Division..............
For all that he was a smashing bloke, just chose the wrong club !

I'm sick of Gregan having to moan at our dozy players. In the first half when our keeper was taking a dead ball kick Hazell for reasons best known to himself, positioned himself on the half way line when his man was 4 yards into our half. All it needed was a poor kick from the goalie and he was straight in on our goal. Fortunately Gregan bollocked him and Hazell ran back like a chastened schoolboy. Some of our players go into switch off mode and captains are there to sort them out. That's what captains do !
