  1. As I remember Alan Lawson wasn't a dirty player, but often used the legitimate block tackle to such an effect it sent a shudder down my spine as opponents crumbled.

IMO he was the hardest man by far ever to wear a Latics shirt.

During the mid 60's FA Cup tie with West Ham, Lawson dumped "Budgie" Byrne on his arse in the centre circle. Byrne, not amused looked at the ref for justice that wasn't forthcoming and gobbed off when it didn't go his way. As soon as the ref turned his back Lawson stamped on Byrne's hand. I thought that was pretty dirty myself.......It was also incredibly funny.

    Thanks for the memory Alan.

  2. "There was a half back, a Scottish half back,

    And Lawson was his name

    And clogging was his game

    He sent them far away

    To the infirmary

    He clogged Jim Fryatt

    And Barry Stobart

    He sent them far away"

To the tune A Scottish Soldier. Alan Lawson was truly hard (the reference to Fryatt was when the latter played for Stockport). The word legend is overused but for those who have seen him play he was a legend.

I can see that challenge on Stobart as if it were yesterday. Just in front of the main stand midway in the Chaddy end of the pitch. High ball and instead of heading the ball Lawson nutted the back of Stobart's head. The poor lad had a greyish hue as he was stretchered up the tunnel.

As someone else pointed out, George Sievewright wasn't exactly a girlie either.

  3. The BNP are voted for in areas like Burnley and Oldham because there's a mentality of 'them and us' in the minds of far too many White people.

The BNP are voted in is because too many people are unwilling to see that racism is a two way street. White people don't have a patent on racism. Until PC loonies with their heads in the clouds realise that the BNP will flourish and that is a bad case scenario for every one.

We should have apologised for our part in the slavery trade only after the black African nations who colluded in it had apologised !

  4. Personally i didn't think Brill should have been dropped, he's been playing well (certainly far better than he did early on in the season) and it was a bit harsh to drop him after letting in one howler. By the same logic, Abbott should be dropped for missing the penalty on Saturday.

and presumably Collett's also coaching Flahavan at the moment?

One howler ?? A couple of home games ago Brill let an easy cross slip through his fingers. It drifted past the post fortunately for us and unfortunately for the DVD football howlers producers. On targer and it would have been a classic.

There are times when Brill manages to look decent but if most of us are honest, you're just waiting for the next Brill cock up. It usually arrives, sooner rather than later.

  5. Was Lee really garbage? A few poor crosses near the end, but generally he was fine and also put ina great ball that Abbott nearly scored from just before half time. We were also infinitely better when he was moved into centre midfield (where he should be playing every week).

Yep, he really was garbage. The amount of space he was giving their winger in the first half had to be seen to be believed. Maybe he thought he was playing centre back ? Far too easily beaten on numerous occasions, garbage is a fair description. As for him playing in centre midfield, why not ? Poorest midfield I've ever witnessed at BP.

  6. I'm on (note the no E) this one its called Earth; Parker looked a good signing when we got him, (you must have been doing something else as he murdered Gregan in the play-offs). He isn't and that was my point- can you tell me how DP was to know he was a workshy little :censored: ?

Possibly because he was a workshy little sh#t at Huddersfield and Hartlepool ?

  7. Oh dear....well if that's the case then the manager should sort it and not the players.

just could not get my head round the fact he was out there today and no-one seems to want get the ball out wide to him - okay he got a little mixed up with JJ price and Abbot but not even I can get a grip which one of them is our point man. Just a little caotic up front until that partnership settles on that one.

Get the inmpression he plays better away(meaning footy that is) than at home (did he not have a hand in the Swindon goals the other week?, I though the did okay away at High Wycombe too).

Just felt he was "billy no mates" out there today that's all.

    More like "billy no talent".

  8. Whatever the Gregan-bummers say, he didn't have a good season last year.

Keep your childish bummers remark to yourself in future. As for Gregan last season he started the season strongly, had a poor spell of between 10-12 matches, and finished the season in top form. Or are you a better judge than Joe Royle ? Do not try and justify the fact you couldn't tell a footballer from a plant pot by altering the facts to suit your case.

  9. Not getting into the morals of Lee Hughes. That's been done to death on here.

However, from a playing perspective, I have not been impressed with his stats in division 4 this season as documented by Prozac above. 1 other stat is that the majority of his goals have come in home matches and he has in fact only scored in 2 league games away from Meadow Lane. For a player that was looking for a 2 and a half year contract this time 12 months ago and looking to be playing in the Championship, that is a disappointing return.

Doncaster didn't want to pay a fee for him, JR soon got rid and nobody from our or a higher level was prepared to take a chance on him in the summer. His options were to go to "big spending" Notts County in division 4 or come back to BP on a small wage. He may soon be regretting his choice, especially if Sven spits his dummy and looks for greener pastures if County's new owner doesn't come up with the promised "investment.".

Hughes was the best striker we've had in years. So now we have Parker who doesn't score home or away, and doesn't give a toss anyway.

  10. Oh, so jeering and ironic cheering will make it all better will it?

The way Brill is being treated by a section of the crowd is disgusting to say the least. The lad simply isn't up to the job and all the jeering in the world isn't going to alter that,or improve his game for that matter. Regarding Fleming, he's excellent at shot stopping and taking crosses, however he does have a problem IMO with his mad dashes from his line. It happened too often for comfort last season and according to comments made by Dunfirmline fans on their forum,is continuing. Still a better option though.......
