Best manager this club has had since Royle no doubt.

Yes, sky’s attitude towards non top 4 teams is universal.

straight after the goal the commentator said something along the lines of “well no matter what happens to Bristol City.... try we’re winning the game..”

although I remember the great Barry Davies saying exactly the sane thing just after Earl Barrett had put us in front at Maine Road in 1990.

So so pleased when Korey scored that winner fuck off united, fuck off Sky...

Nothing personal mate but that’s bollocks! If we’re talking about best manager since Royle it wouldn’t be LJ he had the potential to take the club forward his final few months were tainted with throwing the game at home to Yeovil, getting twatted at MK, Paddy Kenny giving him a slap and Chedgate.

His first few months he was like a breath of fresh air - then he reverted to self preservation mode. Sterile football backward passing. If you’re looking for a comparison to Royle well we played our best football during Shez’s first spell, the sane guy who masterminded two escapes when all looked lost. It ended on a sour note on three occasions but Shez has had the greatest impact on Oldham Athletic since Joe.

However, it wasn’t only great football in those halcyon days under Joe - there was also a blood and thunder never say die spirit and the manager who replicated that was Dowie but he’s still not fit to be mentioned in the same breath as JR.

back to Johnson he could have built something here if Corney had allowed but I don’t think he trusted himself he couldn’t resist tinkering with loanees - bringing Daniel Johnson in when we had a settled team doing well. Good player but not right for us left us too open.

He oversaw a horrendous run at Barnsley which he’d started to turn round then jumped ship. Heckingbottom and Weasel Wright won the JPT final and the play off finals despite him trying to hijack the credit. Bristol City he only kept his job after getting slapped down by the board during another unbelievably bad run. He had to agree to give their kids a chance instead of loaner after loanee. And tbf having seen BC at Fulham this year they are a very good side.

but comparing LJ to Joe? Not a chance...

  3. Yeah I’ve heard that RM as my wife’s a nurse.

Any sort of delay I suppose they reallocated the funds? Just from what my wife tells me though it’s crazy - she’s a community nurse and been involved in several redeployments and service shake ups this year and been told it’s happening again post Christmas. The number crunchers are king...

The top brass seem to change on a bi monthly basis and despite the Tories promise to cut red tape and bureaucracy the layers of management (and inexperience) seem to be getting deeper.

  4. Agree M6 has 30 miles of roadworks, M5 can be a nightmare too. As for getting home that’ll be fun too with phantom lane closures and bored workers closing junctions for the fun of it.

Cheapest train ive seen is £103 return splitting the ticket several times. A few of my mates are flying to Newquay then 1hr 45 train to Plymouth day after they fly back from Exeter over an hour on a train from Plymouth.

    What could possibly go wrong?

I have no idea what's in the space that is earmarked for this trial, just wondered if some facilities are already there.

It's a fair comment and maybe the next step too. Who knows

The space was earmarked for a scanner for use by the NHS not sure if the NHS dragged their feet and decided it wasn’t viable or they got piseed off by Corney’s delay after delay.

Despite the rumours the OEC itself MUST be making money it’s in use MOST days for conferences, open days and meetings etc... the top floor should be complete but Corney knows only one way and that’s half arsed. With two floors you could double the conferences, open days, meetings and Christmas footings etc... it’s a very popular venue - why wouldn’t you maximise it?

Probably harsh on Corney as we know Bliyz is his puppet master but how they ever made any money ever is beyond me. I’d love to see them on the apprentice in fact they’d get laughed off flying start with their business acumen...Rick Attwood put forward this sort of pop up bar idea ten years ago. It finally gets entertained. Better late than never I suppose....

  6. Wellens first 12 League Games

    P12 W6 D4 L2 Pts 22

Match or better the same run we’ll have played 33 overall with 48 points needing a minimum of 22 from the last 13 games. I can’t see it tbh - especially if we lose Doyle who’s scored almost a third of our league goals.

wellens has averaged 1.83 Pts a game over a season that’s 84. However he’s only going to manage 37 games this year so that same 1.83 x 37 equates to 60 and I expect us to be around the 60-64 point mark.

if you take into account our points per game over the full season so far it’s around 1.24 meaning we’ll be around the 57 point mark but as I’ve said I can see us doing better than 57 and our usual 17th.

The opening 9 games has killed a play off push unless we replicate  Apr-Nov ‘90 and sept ‘06-Feb ‘07 or the start to 08/09

‘90 we had Ritchie and Marshall

06/07 we had Porter in the form of his life assisted by Warne

    08/09 we had Hughes

Doyle or someone similarly prolific is the key. Even then we are likely to fail BUT it’ll be fun trying!

This is is what we need to emulate to get into the play offs

    25 games remaining...

    ‘90 P20 W13 D7 L0 Pts 46/60

    06/07 P25 W16 D6 L3 Pts 54/75

    08/09 P25 W13 D8 L4 Pts 47/75

  7. I’d settle for a top half finish, top 10 would be fantastic and our only top 10 finish in the last 9 years. Plenty more goals and thrills and spills.

currently 9 points off the play offs can we make that up? In my mind no, but there’s lots of local away Days to look forward too in the spring. What I want is a feeling of momentum when we start next season. Hopefully the takeover happens soon and we can forget about the last 10 years of being in ‘administration’. Hopefully the days of giving out best prospects away and letting contracts run down will be over and we can start to build a team for the first time in a long time.

I fully expect to lose at least two of the loanees but it seems that plans are in place to bring in a few. A left back is a must as is a reserve keeper and a smaller striker. I’d like us to push the boat out she sign Doyle but it won’t happen.

So in a nutshell I want stability and a sense the club can come out of reverse gear..
