Is that stat referring to Premier league teams or any team where someone from a league or 2 below plays a higher club? A non league team playing Portsmouth in the first round for example would be pretty exciting for them.

Just prem. It was a stat given out by Lineker and Shearer before one of the recent semi finals.

I don’t disagree with your point really, but it hardly ever happens. Storm in a tea cup.

I was just about to respond to your original post then…

Whether people agree with me or not, if it’s the FA Cup 3rd round and we drew someone like Arsenal, Spurs, United, Liverpool at home, I honestly think I’d prefer to draw and get a replay than win. We’re obviously not gonna win the thing so I’m clearly thinking of other factors beyond the result, but you just can’t beat getting rocking up at the bigger teams away from home with a load of blind optimism.

And yes of course, you could win and draw another big time, but it’s not very likely.

Forest, Everton and Fulham are easily top 5 away days for me.

Apparently, that’s happened 7 times in 5 years across the whole FA Cup, it’s a rare event. That includes all prem teams by the way and I don’t class getting a draw plus a replay at Luton as a great day out is it.

Maybe so, but the lower league clubs that have absolutely no chance of winning the cup are not really interested in a level playing field. The dangled carrot and the ‘Magic’ of the F A Cup is getting to the third round when the big teams join in and where small clubs and their players get a chance to play at Old Trafford, The Etihad, and The Emirates etc.etc. whilst making a shed load of money in the process!

    That can still happen.

Huge blow to tradition but I can't help feeling the moneyspinningness is overstated.  Probably one or two clubs each season get a really lucrative replay.  Half the time now the crowds for cup games are poor and at reduced prices

    7 in 5 years. It’s a storm in a tea up.

I'll be in the minority here and the sidelining is out of order but I don't think the arguments for keeping them are all that strong, you enter a competition to compete in it, not to be financially rewarded by virtue of the luck of the draw.

Be interesting to see what the reaction would be if they said you can have them back for Round 1 & 2...

    Agree.

Also, I think the stat is that this has only happened on 7 occasions in 5 years (shearer said this so perhaps it’s BS).

The replay, whilst financially rewarding, massively reduces the chance of the lower league team progressing. A penalty shoot out is much more a level playing field.

Dear me Mellon is actually delusional if he thinks the season hasn't dropped away since Eastleigh, we were top of the form table prior but have since gone on an eleven game winless run which is up there amongst the worst in out history, it's not lazy journalism it's fucking facts, add to that team selections been a fucking raffle and he's employed tactics straight off Clayton playing fields, what's lazy is his inability to set a team up and keep sending them out to do the same mind numbing thing game after game. It's not difficult to see why he cant motivate given the way he's behaving lately, I'd probably down tools as well if I had to listen to that tripe day in day out.

Harps on about his impossible job but then crawls up everyone's arse, if you're gonna bleat like a bairn then at least tell us what your trying to say because it looks to me like he wants to blame every fucker but himself, he's almost making his position untenable with the stance he's taken the last couple of weeks and there has been absolutely nothing to be gained from the way he's going on if he's not looking to move on, all he's doing is making an impossible job even more difficult.

Of course there's shit going on but I have less faith than ever that he's the man to sort it out, for a start whose gonna play for him after the shit he's talked and I'm not spending a fucking penny whilst Captain fucking doom is in town.

    Yes. As I said, confusing

Blames everybody and nobody at the same time.

Ok, I can see ads after almost every post - I'll see if I can reduce that to one per topic.

Thanks. I certainly didn’t want to use an Adblock, that’s unfair. It just seemed to have massively increased. Not MEN levels, but a bit frustrating. Cheers for the adjustments.
