But how many times have you heard Corney talk about serious investment interest?

Generally, the non-stories have emanated from fans who've seen someone sat with Corney in the stand who, jokingly, is the owner of the OAFC official Chinese takeaway partner who is now elevated to a serious Chinese investor on the evidence of "I saw Corney talking to a Chinese bloke in a suit so it must be true".

Because this story has come from Corney himself there must be some legs otherwise he is opening himself to further ridicule and alienating an already dwindling group of hardcore fans.

maybe not serious club investment directly, I remember him fanning the Koukash discussions a fair bit and he also exaggerated the long term benefits of the sports direct deal and new stand.

I still think he is referring to investments as opposed to a buy out as he references 'not getting into bed with anybody' which is a term used for partnership deals.

  2. People rightly are sceptical, we have heard enough stories that have amounted to nothing under Corney to last a lifetime. I will believe it when I see it...for now it feels like another injection of optimism as fan morale has taken a serious dip.

Wonder how/if it will be affecting sheridan and the players though? Surely can only add uncertainty?

So Fleetwood are paying out fees and wages we can't compete with off the back of crowds of less than 3000? Are we that far behind on the corporate/sponsorship side? Our ground busting deal with SD was to elevate us to the next level financially wasn't it?

Sponsorship is always the loop hole for owners with cash...etihad sponsoring city the example

Two reasons why someone would buy us - either to secure land/stadium and make a return or have an outlet to showcase players to sell.

Scenario 2; Agent buys Oldham, fields their players in the EU window who then excel and then sold onto Championship, Premier League or EU clubs.

I'm not fussed if it means success, attractive football but we then continually lose those players.  Shez may not like it if he's being undermined on recruitment.

Cheap feeder club in other words...similar to the Cities USA clubs

  5. Whilst we are currently in dire straites there is no denying that the North West is a power house for successful football teams. It's in their DNA...and it comes at a fraction of the cost of London clubs.

Its a no brainer...'if you build it they will come'

Corneys closing statement August 31st 2017

  6. I will believe it when I see it... have heard enough tales in the past of what is 'coming soon' when fans optimism is low. I am slightly reassured that he has given a short timescale on it of before the transfer window though, if it was smoke and mirrors he could have easily said Christmas. Sounds like investment rather than a sale though...

    fingers crossed

.. I'm sure I've read on here that there's some silly 'rules' that are tagged into loans etc ( iirc i read that some clubs insist that a player plays all the time or the club has to pay double the wage??) ..

anways .. maybe when he signed his new contract at 'boro and was allowed out on loan, it was on the proviso he only went to a championship club? .. and Burton were the only ones seemingly interested!  the downside for him is that he has to fight for a place, not guaranteed like it would have been for us!

I think it's more likely to be the contribution of wages that we could afford as opposed to Burton. Bad times when a club like Burton can pay more for a second string keeper than we can for one of the best keepers we have had at the club in many people lifetime!

    Welcome back Futchersbriefs...

That was awful today, not going to be too technical, but Sheridan changed his shape and side against the wrong team. Players in wrong position a plenty and too many players looking up to others who aren't up to it - worrying signs early on. A good manager would see it is wrong, change it and be brave, I worry that Shez is too stubborn to do that! Lots of players with shoulders and heads down so early on in the season - it was crap!

Weird too...I was an advocate of signing Clarke, Brian Wilson, Green etc as the older heads that would pick the team up when the shit hits the fan but they are nowhere to be seen. Why is confidence so low? Did not signing ripley when it looked possible knock the wind out of their sales? Feels like something has killed us very early on, it did after Oxford.

We have to ignore today's game as Wigan will be at the top come May and their budget dwarves ours significantly.

However, questions need to be asked regarding Corney's comments around two or three surprises incoming AFTER we had signed the current squad apart from Wilson on loan.

Also, what is the board's position regarding Shez's request that 5-6 new players needed.

We've got 11 days in this window and I do expect comings and goings but it's obvious that some seriously injection is needed in the middle of the park, between the sticks, one at the back and another up front.

If we have to be choosy then I think our midfield needs overhauling - two creative at least - so we stick with our strikers as is.  However I think we need a central defender though.

Corney can't magic the funds obviously but the first three games is showing that it'll be one long and painful season fighting safety without strengthening.  Does he want that or progress in the league to maintain and build on attendances?!

We always seem to find ourselves back in this position but corney always tends to be able to give a shot of morphine to enough fans just as the end seems near. But every season it goes on, a few more fans can't stay the course and fall by the wayside.

We cant and won't sustain anything other than a bottom of the table fight under his ownership. I have come to accept that and that's way I don't invest much of my money into the club along with many others. My fear is he has also now made the club unsaleable through the years of asset stripping.

It's our best result. I mean we lost modestly to a team who will likely be challenging for promotion this season and if we're as terrible as everyone is worried about, then we ought to have got trounced today.

I think that's more Wigan took the foot off the gas to save fuel after going 2-0 up early doors more than anything.

Blackpool lost their first 3 games in the season they beat us in the playoffs and went up. In fact in that season they only registered two wins before the start of October.

We didn't start well in that season either.

There's still time to sort it out.

How many seasons are we gonna get this comment out of the locker?

Time to sort it yes...I think people's frustrations are that yet again it looks like we will be in a fight to stay up.

  12. 4-5-1 for me

    wilson

    wilson Clarke Gerrard hunt

    mclaughlin fane banks Gardner tope

    davies

fane and Gardner just in front of back 4 with fane the ball winner and Gardner set to take the ball off him and the back 4 to set a counter.

AAH to come on for Davies if 0-0 or winning Duffuss to come on for banks if chasing

just gonna throw something into the mix here ..

(iirc it was a couple if days before the Oxford game)

I was walking past the training pitch (additionally, what happened to them training again at Chapel Road?) at ISZ and stopped for at short while to watch them training. Eventually i got talking to TW and said the usual stuff like I'm looking forward to the seaaon kick off, team lools good blah blah blah ..

He mentioned that we still needed 2 or 3 players etc ( nothing new there eh?) but then came out with the comment .. " It's the wrong season!" ..

That I have been trying to figure out ever since ..

anyone have an idea what he may have meant by that?

Probably referencing the strength of the league and it isn't a season to go into still needing 2 or 3.

Hope we dont play 3 at the back, Wilson, Gerrard and Clarke have no pace which will lead to a deep defensive back line and with no one putting thier foot on the ball in midfield, more thank likely lead to hoof ball to Holloway who isnt holding much up at the minute.

Gardner will more than likely come in. Give Kyeremeh a run on lthe left,  McLaughlin on right and take ur pick of the rest for other cm spot, maybe give B. Wilson a go at a holding role in front of back 4 if he could do it, couldnt do much worse than Green or Fane??

Would put Tope and Duffus up top, people have said Duffus has pace, hasnt shown it yet but thought is if we are gonna go longish from the back, play long down the channels instead of through the middle, turn Wigan around and let Tope and Duffus use thier speed to cause trouble and run onto the balls.   If anything you would hope it would be more difficult for the ball to come straight back at us ala Wasall with neither Holloway or Davies winning much down the middle.

Think Clarke and Gerrard will start no matter what.

You have hit the nail on the head ref playing 3 at the back. They are slow but it can still work if there is a Kelly/Korey Smith type sat in front of them that constantly makes themself available and can take care of the ball as a quick option. The forward press then starts from them rather than a long ball from one of the 3 cb's.

But how do u offload them ? Can't see anyone in our league being interested. Then you look to league two. "Hey does anyone want these players that have not been good enough for perennial strugglers Oldham ". The worst bit for me is I'd imagine (unlike some here I won't say I know fur sure ) Flynn will be one of our bigger earners. As when he was signed he seemed to be coming with some pedigree, now he's just a chum. Doesn't look to have the heart to me. Whereas Banks doesn't seem to have the bollox

Fair point, I just mean making it clear they aren't part of his plans and letting them know they are free to find new clubs (which he may have done). The risk of that is losing the players mindset completely if no one came in for them at suitable terms.  (Not that their mindsets have much to lose).

I agree that Flynn will be on good money dropping from Sheff Utd, that's the sort of thing where I do feel Corneys pain/frustration. But he has made a rod for his own back with some of the management appointments these last few years.

Thats why why I won't be too hard on Sheridan regardless this year. He has worked 2 miracles and has earned the right to have a couple of years making his squad. I don't doubt that next year all of Robinsons dross will be out of the club.
