  1. Your right it was the only reason they took the flag ! They would have no idea what it was for or what the name said

That's my point, Rich. What they have done isn't sick and perverse as such. They have no idea who Ernie Cooksey is and, to be honest, why would they? None of us would be any the wiser if a Spanish player, who had spent his Career in the bottom two divisions or Non League had died. And if we saw a flag with said Spanish players name on, we would still have no idea who he was.

    Leachy, Boooooooooo.

    How about this one....

    Two Leeds .......

How does the rest go, Leachy ?

  3. If they have Googled to find out who the 'Ernie Cooksey' is on their England 'trophy', they will be led to the ernieflag site, from which even the most callous of thieves cannot fail to note the sentimental value of the Flag.

If English hooligans had stolen a flag designed in memory of a dead Spanish football hero, I suspect that it would have become an international incident. The Spanish public would have been marching in the streets, with questions asked in our Parliament and the English media calling on the thieves to do the honourable thing and return the flag.

Why would a Spanish fan google "Ernie Cooksey" though??

I'm not for one minute condoning what they've done, or defending them. I just think that maybe they don't understand and took the flag because it was a St George's flag.

*I put my tin hat on in anticipation for the abuse I am likely to get *

  4. Let's not be churlish though, a very important 3 points. Here are my marks out of ten...

Budz: 7 - Not called on too much, a fairly easy game in the sticks and dealt with anything that came his way.

Hines: 7 - Looked comfortable on the ball, fitted in well but was caught napping for their goal.

Hazell: 8 - Did the usual, mopped up behind Gregan as per, win most of his headers kept his consistancy.

Gregan: 8 - Rock solid as usual. All the defence was statuesque for their goal but we'll gloss over that. El Capitano back to his strutting, arrogant best.

Golbourne: 8 - Looked a real threat and kept Northampton on the back foot with his probing runs.

Eardley: 7 - At times didn't know what his role really was but never looked that out of place either. I don't think a long illustrious career in midfield awaits him however.

Maher: 9 - Man of the match! 2 superb set pieces, 2 goals. In fact, practically all the set pieces were put in the right areas and we looked a danger at them for the first time this season. Didn't really put a foot wrong and teamed with Allott well to boss midfield in large periods.

Allott: 8 - Combined well with Maher, broke their play up and the lad is showing what won him player of last season award.

Smalley: 8 - Licence to roam. Switched flanks well. Faded a little as the game wore on but thought he put a good shift in. Only a brilliant goalline clearance stopping him scoring in the first half.

Hughes: 7 - Not a vintage game by his standards. Was offside when hit the post, and ran the ball out of play a couple of times. Still, held the ball up reasonably and wasn't a bad game as such.

Windass: 8 - Fully deserved his goal. Bullet header which zoomed into the back of the net. Showed moments of sheer quality along with a couple of moments of absolute cack, but on the whole a pleasing game and milked that celebration.

Liddell: 6 - Last minute corner flag routine.

Whittaker: 7 - Couple of good passes, but did enough to help us secure the points.

Great victory given the other results amongst rivals. Another positive result next Saturday at Yeovil would put us in a great position.

    Your being very generous, Jamie.

  5. Maniac: Goes to every single game ever, would get tickets at 50x the price on the black market if they had to. Knows the name of the deputy physio. Dreams about Latics, wouldn't dream of playing Football Manager/FIFA/PES with anyone but Latics. Would know all players, staff, physios, washing ladies and cooks from the last 50 years on the street.

Fan: Goes to all the games they can get to. I go to all home, but no away as I can't/not allowed etc, does that make me less of a fan? Will stick with the club through and through. Would know almost all players on the street.

Supporter: Same as a fan, just slightly toned down! Would know most players on the street.

Follower: Anyone who lives in the vicinity, reads the match reports, comes for the very occasional match, would know one or two players if they saw them on the street.

Going off that, Joe, I am a maniac!!!

  6. Would it really have come to that, in a meaningless preseason friendly? We've had clubs who have registered their 50 year old owners as players and brought them on in league games.

It would have made a interesting show and create alot of publicity, alas it didn't happen so stop getting upset about it.

I agree - get off your high horse, BigFin.

  7. no i dont expect people to clap a piss poor pass....or underachievment....yet some games the first touch gets the piss ripped out of.that cant be right.

and its not every player,if it was you could understand it...hughes makes the odd bum pass or a :censored: shot etc but gets his named shouted.

I agree with you in that respect - some players can do no wrong (Hughes), whereas others are villified for the same things that Hughes gets his name sang for.

I'm consistent - I criticise them all

  8. i dont critiscise everybody who doesnt go to away games, just like i dont have a go at people who dont go to home games...

i was merely pointing out, that at most away games there is a siege mentallity, everybody has a good old drink and they usually outsing the home support for 90 mins, and back the team players manager etc...

yet at home games its where you get usually the people who cant be bothered going to away games having a go every time a pass goes astray etc etc.

away games...leeds and huddersfield, would prefer to go to more away games but havent got the money.

I know people who have been to every away game and moan when a pass goes astray.

What do you expect? People to clap at a piss poor pass.

Maybe if the players performed better at home, fans wouldn't be on their back.

  9. Most Oldham fans prefer it when Man U do badly and don't like the special treatment they get. I guess you're above local rivalries though.

Why waste your time worrying about United? I'm more interested in worrying about Sheridan's sanity when he picks Daniel Whittaker in his starting eleven.

  10. They just seem to get away with a hell of alot. Much like the scummers don't get penalties given against them and stoppage time appears from nowhere if they need it etc etc. In those cases do you hate the refs or do you think 'I ****ing hate Man U/Alex Ferguson' like everyone else? I huge amount of the feeling towards them is from the special treatment they get and I'm sure loads of others feel the same. Why when it's Leeds getting special treatment should we suddenly say 'oh it's not their fault'? We always knew the FA are totally spineless and they should get their share of the blame, but it's the big clubs who are influencing their decisions.

I don't think anything of it, I don't care whether United get penalties against them, or the stoppage time in a United match. I'm an Oldham fan, I have no care for United, be it good or bad. I couldn't care less if they won the league by Easter, or didn't even finish in the top 4.

  11. Recently you have seemed......err.....troubled.

I know I have the intelligence, however I can't speak for everyone.

    lighten up.

You may do but, come on, we have some ridiculously stupid fans. They will never learn the words. Half of them don't even know the words to "Come on Oldham."

  12. i thought there was one already - something like:

his contract says he's paid in pies, deano deano

his legs are bigger than your thighs, deano deano

Do you honestly think Latics fans have the intelligence to remember, and sing, that song?

We all know that on Saturday, his chant will be "Deano, Deano, Deano."

    Fantastic.
