  1. That's not actual income. It's value to the club of lease deals on cars - so it could theoretically be made up in two ways:another motor dealer being sourced for a similar deal actual sponsorship of the naming rights to the main stand

Interestingly if the Horners deal was worth £20000, and we're short of , say, £50000 from Hillstones (and that's a guess, probably on the high side) then we're talking more in the realm of player wages rather than a Taylor or Eardley sale. Although the extra cash that would bring in would be useful.

I would imagine that including PAYE; Tax; Fringe benefits; Insurance etc, JP Kalala costs Latics considerably more than £70k per annum. I know it isn't increasing revenue but it certainly would be cost reduction particularly if Shez has no plans to play him.

If we can't offload him, then sending him out on loan would recoup some of that outlay. Same for Wolfy.

I'm sure the Club are already looking at this though!

  2. That deal is worth up to £20,000 per year and Athletic will either have to find a new motor dealership as a sponsor or lease/ purchase vehicles themselves.

We will have to make sure our performances on the pitch are such that they attract more spectators to make up the shortfall, though the coming season will be a massive challenge.” [/i]

The stay-at-home fans will take the Chron's suggestion as gospel and sit back saying "I'm not goin' down there if they're selling more players!".

All we need is 1000 of those stay-aways to turn up just once this Season and the drop in income will be neutralised.

That's just 50 extra per League game or thereabouts.

Hopefully, a new Sponsor can be found - and we can add to the average gate. That may give TTA a bit more of a warm feeling as they continue to dip their hands into their pockets to subsidise our Club. With the investment this closed season, they have been doing their bit and I can understand entirely why OAFC are looking for a bit of support from the local public.

For us, they are preaching to the converted but we can probably all do our bit to encourage those who have stopped going to turn up again once in a while.

  3. OK  Rumour Ryder & Dutton in trouble? Reported as malicious rumour in press BUT someone who has just been finished by Ryder and Dutton says another 49 also given push so rumour has some substance? Does latics have any commercial links/sponsorship with Ryder & Dutton? PS Having been stuck up in Scotland for weeks my minds going

Noticed our old friends BOVIS also in trouble financially.

Ryder & Dutton were subject to a hoax recently where someone claimed they had goine into Liquidation. The article is below. Latics Director Ian Hill is a Partner at Ryder & Dutton I believe.

Estate agent foils hoaxer sabotage bid

    3/ 7/2008

AN ATTACK by a mystery hoaxer, who claimed a major residential and commercial estate agent had gone into liquidation, has been foiled.

Police have been called in after the hoaxer sent fax massages to more than 500 key clients and institutions alleging long-established Ryder and Dutton, who have a dozen offices across parts of Greater Manchester, including on Market Place, Heywood, was being wound up.

The hoaxer backed his attack with a falsified document claiming a compulsory winding up order had been presented and advertised in last Friday´’s London Gazette.

On Saturday, the hoaxer emailed the company’s key clients with a copy of the notice and on Monday Ryder and Dutton received calls from companies named on the list.

Investigations by the estate agents’ directors and their legal team proved the notice to be a sham and they were helped by the backing of many of the clients contacted.

A spokesman for Ryder and Dutton said: "We have received dozens of calls from clients who are totally sympathetic. They, like us, are totally amazed by these allegations which are completely untrue. We are grateful of our clients’ support."

North Ainley Halliwell, the legal firm which represents Ryder and Dutton, was one of those on the list who received a copy of the alleged notice on Saturday.

John Ainley, a senior partner in the firm, said: ¨"Fortunately, my clients’ long-standing reputation in the local property market meant that most people in the business community were sympathetic and also questioned the validity of the announcement.

"In other cases, it could have had disastrous consequences.

"Greater Manchester Police have been most helpful and hopefully the culprit will be traced and dealt with.

"However, it may be the law in this area needs to be looked at again so commercial sabotage of this nature can be dealt with swiftly and effectively."

He continued: "Initially, the notice appeared to have been sent from a firm of lawyers but I became suspicious when there was no trace of them in the Law Society register. It quickly became clear the notice was completely fictitious.

"We checked notices advertised in the London Gazette of Friday and found a notice for a different company which referred to solicitors at the same address as that on the fictitious notice – but the name of the solicitor and name of the firm had been slightly distorted.

"Clearly, the person concerned had copied the advert word for word but changed the name of the company to Ryder and Dutton and altered the names of the solicitor and firm.

"I have traced and spoken to the lawyers who represented a client involved in a completely different petition and they confirmed the case has absolutely nothing to do with Ryder and Dutton.

"The notice is purely malicious. The grounds for a winding-up petition do not exist and it is business as usual at Ryder and Dutton. We have called in police at a high level to investigate.

"Naturally, Ryder and Dutton are very concerned about the possible impact this could have on their business, particularly in the present financial climate.

"It would seem to have been sent in a most vindictive way by a person who may have a grudge against the company."

Concerned clients should contact Geoffrey Maybank, a director of Ryder and Dutton, on 0161 925 3241 or 07976 365328

  4. Did anyone put their name forward for this? I did but have not heard anything which makes me think I am not one of the lucky 6.

I'm not saying that this has been rigged but apparently, Gordon has got all 6 places on the Tasting Panel.

  5. Latics plagued by pitch problems

ATHLETIC have opened a book of condolence at Boundary Park for former player Ernie Cooksey, who last week lost his battle against cancer. Stephen Roberts, of the Football in the Community programme, is one of many to have already signed.

    by TONY BUGBY

ATHLETIC are involved in a race against time to get their Boundary Park pitch in pristine condition for the new campaign.

Club officials are concerned about the patchy grass growth in a number of areas, especially as Oldham Roughyeds are due to play Doncaster on the ground a week on Thursday.

Chief executive Alan Hardy says the root cause of the trouble is baffling experts who have been summoned to offer their opinion.

Mr Hardy said: “We re-seed the pitch every year and have never experienced anything like this before.

“Ninety-per-cent of the surface is fine but there are certain areas where there has been weak grass growth.”

Specialist help was called for and a plan of action devised, but in the intervening fortnight there has been no improvement.

A sample of earth has now been removed from one of the affected areas and Athletic are waiting for the results of the analysis.

Mr Hardy continued: “It is a worry but, if we can find out the cause of the problem and treat it, I am confident there will be an improvement in the next 10 to 14 days.

“It is far from ideal because you would hope to have the pitch in tip-top condition by the start of a season.”

Mr Hardy added that the lack of sunshine since re-seeding and renovation work six weeks ago has not helped.

Athletic have finalised a friendly at Welsh Premier Premier League side Rhyl on Wednesday, July 16 (7.30pm).

Rhyl recently competed in the Inter-Toto Cup when they were eliminated by Irish side Bohemians.

Ernie Cooksey’s funeral takes place in St James’ Church, Jamaica Road, Bermondsey on Monday, July 21 (10.30am). The church is close to Millwall Football Club.

Iain and Bob Dowie, who both managed Cooksey, will each be giving an address and the service will be relayed outside the church as it is expected to be full.

The Cooksey family would like mourners to wear football shirts as they plan to make it a celebration of his life.

Cooksey’s father John has thanked the public of Oldham for their support which he has described as “overwhelming.”

Athletic are keeping a close watch on the weather with the forecast bleak for tomorrow when the players are due to play a cricket match at Delph.

Fans intending to attend the game are advised to check whether wickets will be pitched. They can do so by telephoning 0871 2262235 or visiting the club’s website.

  6. The Chron reports that we are trying to arrange another friendly game for a week on Wednesday.

Also, sad news at the end regarding Gretna that nobody will have been expecting.:wink::grin:

    Latics look for extra fixture

    by TONY BUGBY

ATHLETIC are trying to arrange an extra pre-season friendly for Wednesday week.

Manager John Sheridan is keen to have another fixture, even though it will only be 24 hours after their behind-closed-doors friendly against Belgian side Cercle Brugge.

That match takes place at Brockhall, the training ground of Blackburn Rovers with whom Brugge have close links and who are holding a training camp in the North West.

Chief executive Alan Hardy is close to finalising a game which would be away against opponents who are believed to have experience of playing European football.

Mr Hardy said: “We have so many players that most of them will not have the chance to play for more than 45 minutes against Cercle Brugge.

“That is why the manager is keen to have another game the next day so the players can get extra time playing.”

Athletic then head to Grimsby on Saturday week and have fixtures against Derby County, Hull City and Bradford City to come.

The first week of pre-season happily was incident free with everybody coming through unscathed.

Athletic have lost out for one of their transfer targets as David Livermore has moved from Hull City to League One rivals Brighton on a free transfer.

Livermore impressed during a loan spell at Boundary Park last season and Sheridan told the player he would be interested in signing him permanently.

It is thought that Livermore’s personal demands, however, would have proved an obstacle to joining Athletic.

Left-back Ryan Bertand, who had a spell on loan to Athletic from Chelsea, is returning to Championship club Norwich City having joined them in January after leaving Boundary Park.

Ex-Latics defender Danny Hall has signed a one-year contract at Chesterfield having left Gretna, the Scottish Premier League club which has gone bust.

  7. I'm no expert Johnny but it sounds like your processor. If it is, then it should be reparable and I'm sure someone more qualified will tell you how. May be expensive though.

After a few problems with my old laptop (like yours 6 years old and so single processor), I decided to get a new one a couple of weeks ago. Best thing I ever did as a machine with a dual processor is massively quicker and makes using it a whole lot more pleasurable. The difference in watching back Laticsworld videos and all sorts of other stuff is immense. I used to think my Broadband connection was the thing that affected download quality but it wasn't - the new lap-top has proved that. Ripping CDs takes less time now and as it's a dual processor, you can also be doing other stuff at the same time without any slow down.

You don't need to spend a fortune these days to get something decent.

  8. Very professional performance with even hard-to-please coach Daniel Anderson applauding several of the superb tries. The real stars though were the group of about 10 Quins fans who never stopped supporting their team from kick off until after the MOM Presentation was made to the outstanding Leon Pryce.

I bet you were cheering on the Pies as well Matt on Friday night? One of the best games that I've seen for a long time with drama right until the final kick with Rob Burrow missing a penalty that would have won it for The Rhinos.

Meanwhile, League 2 has been blown apart today. The previously unbeaten Barrow Border Raiders lost at Hunslet () while The Roughyeds scored a last gasp try to beat Workington by a couple of points up in Cumbria. Makes it very tight at the top and any one of three (Barrow, Oldham and Gateshead Thunder) could win the division. Doncaster Lakers may have a chance too as they have games in hand and their game with Oldham is live on Sky in the coming weeks.

  9. Not been on TV since Hughes signed?? (conspiracy?)

You may have a point. In December, Hughes scored 8 goals I think and didn't even make Sky's shortlist for player of the month. The 4 candidates up for the award were strikers who had scored between 2 and 5 goals apiece. Nobody could convince me that his omission was anything other than deliberate.

Not related to Latics but have a look back how many times Franchise FC have been shown live in the last couple of years.

Sky have their own private agenda when it comes to showing live games from the lower Leagues which is sad for the many clubs who miss out on extra money.

  10. Wait, let me check this out for you:

    126mph, 27 miles per gallon, 6 miles a litre, 300miles.

    115mph, 36 miles per gallon, 8 miles a litre, 400miles.

    Yes, that sounds about right.

A slight exaggeration mate however my driving style now has lead me to consider purchasing a tweed cap and driving jacket with shiny elbow patches.
