  1. Because Porter was over the age of 23 we got nothing for his move north, if he was under23 we would have got a fee.

Are you sure about this Senor? (sorry to doubt you :) ) But I thought the under 23 thing was something that applied only to England having been given dispensation by UEFA I thought Bosmans between countries occurred no matter what the age which is why the big clubs like Arsenal have all these foreign kids who they have picked up when their first contract has finished and they haven't had to pay a fee. I also thought Porter was only 22 when he left which is why we could have gone to a tribunal if he had gone to Plymouth.

  2. Quite frankly after the Porter debacle the clever betting would indeed be on taking the money, however this situation is entirely different. Trotman couldn't go for nothing unlike Porter.

Is it? i thought it was exactly the same. If he signs for Plymouth we agree a fee or go to tribunal but if he signs for a club from another national league we get nowt. That was my understanding, have I missed something?

One more thing just because that Plymouth site says it's going to happen doesn't mean it will. It has been wrong before (just put the kiss of death on that now - he'll be in green and white by lunch tomorrow!

  3. only said it was the odd few who did it you cant tarnish everyone with same brush mate .

I think the saying is 'tar everyone with the same brush', but you may have left an apostophe out.

I keep looking on youtube but can't find your footage. Please tell us where it is.

Good luck in the next round. Keep the faith with stitch.

  4. And, did anyone else own a "It's Hell With Groves" window sticker?

    I bet they'd be worth a fortune on e-bay!!!

remember him taking a right wing corner with his left foot in the 6-0 thrashing of Hudders in '74 (scored 6 goals 3 times that season I think) The ball was headed out to where he'd moved to after taking it about 5-10 yards in from the goal line and 5 in from the touch line. He just volleyed it back in first time over everyone's heads right into the top far corner. Magic.

  5. Good for him if he can be that good. I'd like to see him achieve as much as he can - if he gets so good that he gets snapped up, so be it.

I think you might be missing the view point of the people I was talking about here TSB ( :) )

'if he gets so good that he gets snapped up' then he will be a 'good for nothin' two timing disloyal , useless, money grabbing, son of a bitch, who we didn't want anyway!

  6. Too much talk of dropping Davies tonight. The lad just needs a bit of confidence - one goal could well turn it around.

Actually cheering the guy from the first whistle on Saturday can make that difference. Anything else, won't.

    Do the right thing.

People like a lot of what Davies can do and realise his undoubted ability. What they forget is that if he could do it all the time then he wouldn't be playing for us.

  7. Just seen this - now seeing our apparent goot relations with the board down the road... How about a cheeky move to get the kid fit, and playing first team football - defo worth a Shot Mr Hardy...

    Get DS In....

I do wonder if that sort of loan is going to be the only way forward for us when one looks at some of the silly money being mentioned for transfers - and that is without the wages. I see Millwall have paid £150k for Grabban which if it is a yardstick would price us out of going for anyone even as good as what we have, let alone better. I liked Grabban, thought he had potential but he has proved nothing yet neither with us nor Motherwell, and that seems like an awful lot of money to me.

  8. Remember my owd fella sweaing at the radio a lot that afternoon, think it was 84-85 season and all the goalscorers went on to play for Latics if I remember rightly (sure i've read it in a programme from the season after) Stitch got a hat-trick Tommy Wright bagged two and Shez scored too.

Checked soccerbase and it was 29/9/84 no scorers listed but i'm sure i'm right!

Remember it well. for some reason I was sat in their end. Hmmmmmmm....and yes it was 6

My nomination would be the first time my mum allowed me to go to an away game on my own. Chesterfield in the cup, I'm guessing about late '71, I would be 13 ish. I got the coach from Yelloways on Yorkshire St and we lost , poss 3-0. We set off home just after 5pm but it started to snow. it got heavier and heavier and the coach couldn't get back up the hills( possibly out of Buxton) you must remember this was pre motorway days. I can remember getting off the coach at the bottom of a ruddy great snow covered hill and loads of us pushing cars up it as we remained marooned at the bottom. We all went into a cafe we had found to warm up and wait for the gritters etc. My mum had given me some extra dosh in case of an emergency, which i thought meant buying chicken and chips in the chippy ( she later informed me it meant phoning her up to tell her I was ok if there was a problem) We eventually set off and got back into Oldham about midnight. i then rang my dad to come and pick me up and the scene i arrived home to was not pretty. My mum and various Aunties were in our house all weeping convinced I'd come to a sticky end and I got the mother of all doggings.

Don't think I was allowed to go to an away game ony own again until I was about 34.

If it helps to confirm the date i'm sure Bournemouth beat someone(non league? ) on the same day by 9 or 10 and ted McDougal scored 6 (ish)

    Happy days! :)

  9. I think we will have to agree to disagree on this point. Although they did not have clear cut chances before the equaliser the pressure was building the last 20 mins as was the mistakes by our players. I was hopeful we could keep them out but not very surprised when they scored.

To say that today was a good performance is just not true imo.

I suppose that it's the beauty of the game that we have different views (as long as you remeber that mine is right) I didn't think it was a good performance at all really. We didn't do that much wrong but we didn't do enough right in my view. They only had one shot on target all game but I wasn't surprised when they scored either. A big issue for me was that with 20 mins to go i said this is the time to bring that sub striker on who is fresh and will give them something else to think about as well as using the gaps they were leaving. Wolfy is not that man I'm afraid and if we getinjuries to hughes or davies we are knackered. We need another striker andmidfielder rapidly. i thought a win today was crucial if we were to have any chance of making the play offs so I suppose the Cup Final will have to do. :D

  10. This sounds absolutely desperate. 5 players sold in a day and offers being considered for 3 more. I don't see how they can stay up at this rate. At least it happened to us pre season and if memory serves we didn't have the transfer window so could strengthen as the season progressed. They could be without a team by the end of jan.

  11. Fantastic Idea

Let's march from the civic centre before the Brighton game!

Someone very wise several years ago suggested all teams should have 2 kits and one of them should be white, therefore no colour clashes and no super excessive ripping off of fans.Didn't seem to catch on for some reason

  12. An easy mistake being 2 town names :

Perhaps Latics could sign a full team of current players with town names, anyone going to try a list ?

I'll start you off with Clarke Carlisle.

    Dean Ashton

    Dwight Yorke

    Howard Kendal

    Fred Pickering

    Latics only team would see

    David Shaw

    Andy Gorton

    Steve Mildenhall

    sorry missed the current bit.

    At least Mildenhall fits

  13. what is this obsession with vernon with a lot of oldham fans, he was not good enough the first time why would he be this time. (for those who say he was, get a grip)

we need to look to new faces, not where former players are at, allott is the excetion this season and hes proved alot of people wrong, but this does not been we should re-sign former platyers , MOVE ON

The important thing will be what the management think and I always got the impression Shez rated Verndog so I wouldn't be surprised to see him back here as he's not catching with the lashers now.

  14. No not that crap light entertainment programme from the 70/80. I wonder when we'll see any new players into the club this window. It'll be interesting to see who are our targets. At least whilst we're hearing nothing the negs are still ongoing unlike when we do it tends to signal said player isn't coming or staying.

Got the impression from what was said last week that we should be seeing one sooner rather than later. i wouldn't be surprised to see Cywka as he's in the stiffs at Wiggin and as we were supposedly interested in Goodall in the close season then he might appear as well. Whatever happened to the Norwegian who was on trial here last month?

  15. Why do the Police insist on making this game all ticket. I dont think we will have ever have had 13500 there. We didnt sell out in the Play offs FFS.

Now we will be lucky to scrape 9000.

Oh well I will still be there but this was a great chance of having a good turn out for a change and now its all Ticket I dont think it will be anywhere near as high att as it could have been

I wouldn't be surprised if it becomes pay on the gate with about a week to go. Doing it this way means that the police have some idea of how many are going to turn up which influences their planning for the game.

  16. NO

I really don't think we will see a crowd of 10000, I would be surprised to see Hudders bring 2000, they haven't done recently. Also both sides have home League games the following tuesday. I think what is more likely to influence the size of the crowd is the results in the 3 games before the tie rather than the price.
