  1. I was more than a little disappointed with the tone of ITV's reporter this morning. "Lee Hughes scores his first goal for Oldham..................................then blah, blah, blah about causing death by dangerous driving", not the fact it was goal of the day by a guy who in the eyes of the law has repaid his debt to society. Really got my goat that did, flamin' gutter journalism. Even the wife who has absolutely no interest in football (apart from the Jekyll and Hyde effect it has on her husband!) remarked what a crappy throw away comment it was.

Funnily enough we got a similar mention in the Observer yesterday . The first mention 've had since .............oh let me see when. Yes that's it Hartlepool away. Now what happened then i wonder.

They also mentioned yesterday that it was our first win in 11 games which was nice of them. Not as good as the Radio 5 reporter at Cheltenham yesterday who reported Leeds one nil up thro' Beckford after 75mins and then Chelts equaliser with 4 minutes to go. He then had to start his end of match report with an apology.

  2. <------check profile, based in dorset only half hour away. It was a good performance, i know bournemouth are down at the bottom but that doesn't take anything away from the victory, we played as a team all over the pitch. this was my first match this season and the only real negative i can pick out was crossley looked dodgy at the corners, he made a couple of decent saves but they hardly threatened our goal. Lee got to the ball first and wouldn't give it to davies for the penalty, although it probably would be the same if davies got it first.

    Hi Tony

After I'd written my comment I decided to have a quick butchers' and noticed Dorset in your list! Can't expect me to be too attentive when we have won 3 nil away!

Well done for going, i'm always dead chuffed for the team when they get a following in the godforsaken parts of the country. Unfortunately re: the pen it doen't help my 2 quid at 66/1 on davies being top scorer in the division.

  3. Just got back, what a performance! hughesys goal was awesome, he did equally as good to cross for taylors goal. fantastic result, onwards and upwards!!!!!

Just got back? I take it you either don't live in Oldham or own a rocket! Were they that good or are Bormnemouth pretty desperate? Having said that some of our better performances have been away. I thought Walsall were pants but they haven't looked back since we stuffed them so credit where credit is due to the lads. 3-0 away is good no matter who you are playing,

I was talking to a Baggies mate of mine last week who was asking how Lee was doing. I think the Baggies fans still have a soft spot for him. He knows Lee's wifes side of the family who he described as a proper set of folk who were devastated by what happened. I think Lee has done well to keep his head down and is progressing to what he may be fully capable of. If he can we will have an awesome front 2. Did he and Davies have a spat over the pen?

  4. I meant that I had entered a petition, didn't hear anything, emailed them after 6 days and they replied saying it takes 5 days....

I got told off a bit at work as well cos we work with the council. Oops. Didn't think that one through.

Well done! We'll come round with the buckets when they give you the sack!

I've got a Gills and a Darlo fan on there now, working on the Baggie, the Shaker (who's asked me if I'm interested in Wembley tickets) and the Geordie.

  5. Come on people, we are still below knighting the Chuckle Brothers. Get your act together. You will never catch me referring to Sir Phil Neville!

WOW! I've never had so much entertainment as the last half hour looking at some of the petitions. The ones that have only got 1 signature are the best. How can you launch a petition without having anyone to sign it? There are some funny ones, loopy ones and some very sad ones. Some of the people can't even write properly. The 16 year old home schooled girl who wants people to be allowed into college without passing GCSEs just makes me weep.

There are 2 about Leeds 15 point penalty, one to decrease and one to increase it!

Go on you know it makes sense!

  6. Absolutely brilliant!

Long live Alan Green and Chris (Pelanty) Twaddle!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  7. The first post on this thread uses the phrase 'you can't ride two horses with one arse'. Apparently, you can drive two cars, though!

I must admit, in my reply I was refuting the claim that 1000 adults would own 2000 cars. It didn't occur to me that he was also suggesting that 1000 adults would drive 2000 cars, all at the same time.

    The man is unbelievable.

But you'd have to be a big arse to do it.

  8. I'm not sure the Chron's coverage is as supportive as a few correspondents have said on here. It is reportage rather that an analysis of the 2 sides to the argument. The editorial apart form being factually incorrect, are we aurprised?, is at least not anti the club and whilst not nailing the colours to the mast they do seem to be looking for a hammer. I am suprise at the large amount of coverage and that must be good but i will wait and see what happens next week. In my original e-mail I mentioned a front page article in the chron on Monday. Lo and behold today we have the opposite sides view. Let's see what happens on Monday or tuesday, a double page spread of resident's views i would wager. But you can' t ride two horses for very long .

  9. I don't think it's us they are intending to make sweat. If they come out and say they are staying no matter what then the council will breathe a huge sigh of relief. If they sit tight and say nothing the councillors will have to starting facing up to the fact that they may be the people who brought the club to it's knees. i think that our powder is being kept in a very dry place somwhere and i trust TTA's to know when to get it out.

And by the way sometimes I can spend ages deciding what to have for my tea (although here in Saddleworth it is supper)

  10. It will be very interesting to see what stance it takes having had 24 hours to think about it. I expected it to take no side yesterday which is exactly what it did but if there is no editorial comment today then it will be ducking the issue. It doesn't have good relations with the club and hasn't got a good word to say about the council. It is also very fond of giving front page publicity to protest groups or individuals who think that they have been wronged (Monday this week is an example) usually without checking the story or trying to give the alternative view or right to reply. Whilst they won't want to upset the good burghers of the residents group I think they might be loathe to upset Latic's fans as well. Part of the role of a local paper must be to campaign on local issues and nail it's colours to somebody's mast. Tonight will be a test for the paper as I feel it really has to go one way or the other. The Saddleworth wind farm was easy as their was only one local point of view really (apart from me) , so that was easy for them to oppose. Tonight is different. Will they go for the residents or the fans of the club and it's obvious positive knock on effect for the whole town? It's decsion time for them. As my dad use to say you can't 2 horses with one arse but i think they might give it a good try.

    Andy

  11. I think the chron's front page today will make or break its relationship with the club, i know things have been strained latley but if they need to choose sides now and report on which they feel is best. I know the Chron likes to have a go at the council so it could be a 'Pro Latics' front page...

We shall soon see, less than an hour until it is published online.

I can't see them taking sides , that's not the way they normally operate. They will probably manage to report it in a way that is critical of both sides. they will love the row though as they like to do a bit of agitating when they can. Several people on here have commented about the council not supporting the town and neither does the paper. Nothing on the website yet, still yesterday's poke at the hospital.

  12. The simple fact it he was treated unfairly by most Oldham fans. I understand and agree with certain parts like the pass, pass, pass comment but most of it is rubbish about us expecting premier league football. My main criticism was we couldn't play two halfs of football under him. The prime example was Udders away when we murdered them for 45 mins and went in 2-0 up at half time and came out and lost 3-2.

What ever people say he did a good job at Oldham IMO.

    Still can't stand him though.

    PEDDANT POLICE!!

went in 2-1 if memory serves.

  13. But slavery still exists today, though in a different guise. The abolition was for slave trading, we traded slaves internationally, people have just been on the news crying about it. Yes it was wrong, yes it was awful, but look at the cockle pickers at Morecambe they are slaves and are traded between (I suppose) gangsters, cry for them, stop that happening. :rant.sml:

Think everyone may be missing a point here. Can't remember any official mention that this anniversary was coming up. It seems to have generated all it's interest purely because the BBC decided to have a season on it - must have run out of celebs to send some where. No other media outlet seems to have prepared anything on this , they are all responding to what the Beeb has done. So all of a sudden the BBC has sent everyman and his dog off to the Caribbean to coincide with the cricket world cup. Cynical me? And that bloke from Casualty is making a blinking fortune. I keep expecting him to be reading the weather as he is on everything else on the TV or radio 5.

  14. Hi this is my first post on here. Have read about it on JK so thought i'd give it a whirl. I'm not the most IT literate and it does seem a bit hi tech on here. Let's hope i can cope!

    Name?Andy Stott

    Location? Greenfield

How Long Supporting the Tics? Since 1970 Lincoln city at home won 4-2 is the first game i can properly remember but I had been before then.

Best away match you've been to? Woud probably be Southampton away in the League Cup. I think everyone expected us to get beaten , we'd had our great result against Arsenal and i was just going for a good day out. When we equalised in injury time I just went mental!. Also Shrewsbury Town away sometime in the mid 80's, we were 2-0 down and won 3-2. People stood on car roofs in the car park. magic.

All Time Greatest Player? Loads of them. If i have to pick would probably be stainrod

    Biggest Rivals (in your eyes)?

Woudn't give anyone the satisfaction of thinking they were that imortant to me. Love it tho' when I talk to the supporters of BIG clubs and remind them of the time we did them over because we have done them all at one time or another. their bemused expressions are priceless.
