  1. Thanks for the threatening PM. I'd love your seat number. No idea what I'd do with it like. And no, I'm not trying to make you look a :censored:, you clearly don't need my help.

Like I said, 'arry hadn't said what you said he had. I pointed it out to you. You still weren't having it. And then I explained it. You're probably still not having it.

Ladies and Gentleman - don't pick on Lancy Lad, because if you do you've "picked on the wrong guy"

    Pillock!

  2. It's alright, I'll explain it on here...

lancy lad - "I know it will upset a few but tough, it's time the club stopped allowing people to make the choice."

Harry Bosch - "By delivering decent, winning football again so we have to sit, and sing, wherever we can get in?"

    Meaning...

We deliver good winning football and fans flock back. The ground sells out. People are happy to get a ticket in whichever part of the ground the can as long as they get to see the lads.

It wasn't that hard to understand.

I have PM'd you. Smart arse..

  3. OK, maybe I was just unlucky as I seem to have been the only person to change stands to the RRE today and felt it wasn't as good as others have made out.

Shame you wasn't in the main stand today (I know you go in there occasionally).

The noise was the best I have heard from a home crowd for many years in the league!

  4. Right as an exiled Lookersite who is currently a ST holder the MSU, and as someone who prior to today hadn't watched a game from the RRE, I'd like to give my fairly unbiased view of the Chaddy/RRE debate, so warning this is a bit of a long post, hence why I've put most of it in spoiler mode

Firstly, the "better" atmosphere in the RRE. I think that when both ends are singing the RRE is better heard in the main-stand, but quite frankly I heard the Chaddy quite well last week (from the MSU RRE side) and hear them well when the opposition have the RRE, provided they sing of course. But judging by the comments of Pukka and Sly, who I think I sit roughly above, the RRE was louder today than the Chaddy was last week. I've been in Chaddy when we've been in this league, when it has been louder than today was in the RRE. Essentially my view is that stands don't make the noise, the people in them do, silence from the Chaddy sounds the same as silence from the RRE, and the Chaddy can outsing the opposition in the RRE. Put Oldham fans who want to create noise together and we create noise, it doesn't matter where that is.

The better facilities, yes the Gents toilets are nicer, and there is more urinal space, but their layout is appalling, unless you are a man that doesn't wash his hands. The hand basins are not in a good place and neither are the cubicles. Obviously I cannot comment on the other toileting areas.

I was impressed with the service from the caterers in the RRE, a queue of people, a loud who's next and Bob's your Uncle. But because I was driving I wasn't after anything alcoholic, so can't really comment on that side, plus it looked like the bar and the soft drink/food were different queues, that always used to annoy me at away games, but as I don't eat pies anymore it's less of an issue. I also presume that unlike the main stand you can't pre-order your drink for half-time. But at least you can get an alcoholic drink there, unlike the Chaddy. However, I wouldn't want to be in a long queue of people for food and/or drink on a day like we had last Sat. At least in the Chaddy you can stay relatively dry if the weather is like that. Plus the service in the Chaddy could easily be improved by having more people working, and/or by selling booze.

The fans, I don't know if it was because I was sat towards the back and on the aisle, but those in the RRE don't half move about whilst the game is on, it was worse than away games and certainly worse than the Chaddy and the Main Stand, it might just be me but I found it particularly irritating today. Plus maybe because I was unfortunate enough to be sat in front of a moaning elderly gentleman but he could out moan the main stand, and it's 2014, homophobia is illegal. He didn't moan at the players or about the performance on the pitch, unless it was the officials, but most of the time those moans were wrong anyway.

The view, the RRE doesn't have pillars and because a significant proportion of the unrestricted views in the Chaddy are held by ST holders if you aren't a ST holder the RRE has a better view. However, it did seem like being at the back of the RRE stand is further away than being at the back of the Chaddy and the RRE is a bit more exposed to the elements, see last week. Presumably, when the new stand is built fans can either have pillars in their view or be more exposed to the elements at the front of the stands, as is the case now.

Oh and whilst the PA is bad in every stand it is inaudible in the RRE seats, (could hear it fine outside), that needs addressing.

So in summary, I think, as expected, a lot of the fuss about which stand is better has been blown out of all proportion, there are positives and negatives to all the stands and no stand is the Shangri-La of Boundary Park. The people in the stands, and the people wearing blue on the pitch are what makes stands and games good.

However, as I said earlier in the thread, forcing those in the Chaddy end to move because some people think the RRE is the better stand is silly in the extreme. Especially as quite a few of those who are unwilling to move have been sat/stood in the Chaddy end longer than seemingly the more vocal of the pro-movers have been alive. Our fan base is not big enough at this level to be able to afford to lose some regulars just because other regulars, and others feel that the RRE should be the "home" end. As some others have said, the opinion on here doesn't matter as much as the numbers through the turnstiles, but even that is not accurate enough, as when the new stand is built, and if the RRE was the same price as the Chaddy then I could see the RRE being significantly less popular than the Chaddy, even if it isn't now. Furthermore as others have said whilst I've tried to be impartial my opinion in the Chaddy/RRE debate doesn't matter as much as I prefer to sit on the sides.

    Did you actually go today?

  5. Today was the first league game in years where I've thoroughly enjoyed myself from beginning to end.

This, this and this again is why it should all be about the RRE.

I have been a ST holder in the main stand for many years (25 years) and love Latics so much...however TTA's reluctance to spend anything over the last few years has made me seriously consider renewing.

I am definitely renewing after today (probably was anyway) because that atmosphere was fantastic!

Today was great and made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up because it's always the away fans that stand out at BP.

Let's take this and embrace it for the future of OAFC, it's only a stand move at the end of the day.

  6. I suspect a few might move from the Chaddy permanently next season.

I know it will upset a few but tough, it's time the club stopped allowing people to make the choice. If we had that atmosphere every week we would bring back some lapsed fans I reckon. We would also attract younger fans who want a better matchday experience.

  7. Has to be the best atmosphere for many years in the league. The RRE got everyone going, even where I sit in the main stand. Most of the chaddy end didn't bother joining in.

Sorry but there is no comparison and if we want to gain new support we need an atmosphere... Chaddy for away fans and RRE for Latics please!!!

  8.

I can understand where your coming from, I often think the club has an us vs them attitude in relation to the fans which is bizarre. Corney, The Trust and the rest of the business side of the club seems completely out of touch.

For what its worth I dont think Corney is necessarily in it solely for making money on the land, I think he enjoys running a football club and the power, status, ego etc that goes with it. The problem is he doesnt have the money to do so at this level and he seems incapable of bringing in investment, maybe because he wants to remain in sole control, hence surrounding himself with yes men.

I dont think TTA came into shaft us, they did fund a competitive side for a number of seasons, especially under Ronnie and Shez. I do think having failed to realise their vision though they didnt have an exit strategy in place for when they got bored which has led to the treading of water and decline. I really think TTA and Corney's project has run its course and therein lies the problem, its all gone stale and everyone is bored, especially the fans. We need some real investment or a serious shock (like administration) to wake everyone up or we will continue to slowly decline.

    Spot on.

  9. It's taken me a long time to realise how badly the club is being run and I am very worried for our future. He doesn't engage the fans anymore, instead all he has is negatives for us.

I dread to think where we would be without playing Liverpool 3 seasons running in money spinning matches.

At the end of the day I really hope I'm wrong and most on here are right about their intentions, however he seems to be dying to hand the reigns to the fans (without the land) and watch it all die.

As for the stand, I remember a stand supposedly being built for several years at Rotherham..... It never was, instead they very nearly folded several times. I will only believe it when it's full of expectant Latics fans.

  10. For all those saying we were a championship club. Does anybody want to mention that the game has moved on standard wise and money wise.

How many clubs have Manchester United and Manchester City right on their doorstep? Equivalent....Tranmere? What level are they at.

Time has moved on we didn't keep up but that was due to bad business management well before Corney and the other 2.

We have the income and the crowd of a league 2 club. We are a league 1 club for the moment, Corney is doing his best to shrink us down so much that everyone will just :censored: off and not kick up to much of a fuss, so him and the other 2 can sell the land.

Fixed the last bit for you!

  11.

Yeah TTA were complicit in the ':censored:wittery' of Oldham Council.

He already is backing the club, who do you think is footing the losses? Who do you think takes the decision to allow a manager to stretch the budget (which has happened pretty much every season as far as I can see)?

He isn't blaming the fans either, he's saying we don't have enough fans (which is true and can only be solved by slashing ticket prices - more losses, or getting success on the pitch - unlikely without further losses in the short term at a massive risk) - he also points out we have a really good hard core following which i take as very complimentary to the people who turn up every week/when they can.

I agree they made a mistake knocking down the Lookers but it was done with good intentions, save cost and build something new. The council has put up road blocks to stop that that don't exist, ignoring traffic reports, blocking a move to a different site for one reason or another etc. Simon Corney could not change this, in fact the number of avenues we've been down regarding new stands/grounds in the last 10 years is actually down to the work they've done. When we've been knocked back we've tried something new.

I really don't understand what you want him to say- "Sorry, the council are twats"?. He didn't mean for things to turn out the way they have, he hasn't really made any glaring mistakes. I don't think the way he has backed the club financially can be questioned at all. I understand some people have some personal grievances with SC and I'm in agreement some of his rants in the press sometimes aimed at fans aren't helpful in any way, but in this article I can't see why he should be apologising for anything, he tells it like it is. There's very little if anything there that isn't just a fact.

Once again you have me all wrong Leyland.

TTA saved us and it says that in my post. The ":censored:wittery (as you say) of Oldham Council" is and for many years has been there for all to see.

Our home attendances have dropped by 50% in the last 10 years, can you imagine the outcome if that happened elsewhere? You totally missed the point of my post because I don't want him to just "hand it over to the fans" as he keep's threatening. That would be the death of OAFC...simple as! I have started to wonder if that's what TTA want if I'm honest. They started backing us to the hilt, it went tits up and then the other 2 bailed. Corney is very rarely there these days, so perhaps they would like it if we folded and they could stop backing us?

If you keep diluting the product, you will piss the customers off and that is what has happened.

I want him (them) to back us or sell us............but nobody is going to do that while they are claiming a "League 2 sized club" is worth millions of pounds!

  12. Of course, a lot of what he says makes perfect sense.

However my main frustration with Corney is that none of it is ever the fault of him or the other 2.

Yes they bailed us out of the :censored: and make no bones, we would have folded......however knock down a stand and constantly promise the ground to be rebuilt and keep taking the promise away (not all in the hands of them, but other's have managed it... Brighton, Shrewsbury, Rotherham, Morecambe to name but a few). Then give us several years in a 3 sided :censored: hole, while selling the best talent for next to nowt??? Okay, I can except the loss of the likes of Baxter for such a paltry fee because of the circumstances. The sale of price for Tarky is just undefendable though? I mean Brentford for that price?

Sorry Simon, I don't want you to sell us down the river but if you own a football team then you need to back it financially from time to time or the customers will get fed up.

You continue to tell us you will walk away and give it to the fans but nobody wants that because it will fold. If you are serious about finding a buyer like you have always promised, then you need to start asking less for the land and the club and we can move on.

Stop blaming the fans all the time and take some ownership for bad decisions you and your pals made and back us or sell us.

I never thought I would see the day when little Rotherham were getting three times as many fans as us through the door.

And before anyone has a go, I am still a season ticket holder who attends every home match (and several away) and pay what I can into Playershare.
