  1.

Was in the side that kept us up in CM end of last season.

He has to improve his athletic ability and stamina, that is something we all agree on.

However as a 20yr old young lad he has many attributes to go far in this game.

If he is "no good" how did he glide past premiership, no wait, top4 in the premiership midfielders all through that second half? No protection in front of him led to the danger they created down his side.

You fail to point out the fact that he constantly gave the ball away, putting us under pressure.

    His distribution is fecking awful.

  2.

Mellor was named man of the match today in several national newspapers' reports of the game.

They obviously agreed that a 20-year-old League One player playing in a relatively unfamiliar position, against an England international, impressed against top-four Premier League opposition.

But quite clearly my post 'lost all credibility' for suggesting he was our best player.

And no offence, but I'd rather risk appearing to 'insult' or 'bully' some (not all) people on here than regularly 'insult' and 'bully' one of our own, young players.

But to think that, or anything positive about Mellor, I guess I must be related to him...

Mellor was nowhere near man of the match, both you and I know that Tarky and Kusunga were far better.

Insult and bully a young player? Don't make me laugh, it's a message board to air views and opinions and that is what I am doing...I never insult or put any of the players down at the match and believe if anything needs saying....this is the place to get it off your chest.

As for him being in an unfamiliar role, I just nearly fell off my chair laughing. While I can agree, he isn't a left back....he has been playing there for at least 2-3 years on and off.

However my concern is that he is also not very good at centre half, central or left midfield.

  3. Speaking of stupidity, a grown man had his young son with him yesterday. After the game, we were trying to find our coach. The fella kept trying to pick a fight with a Police Horse (Yes, you read that correctly!) and, despite his son bawling his eyes out and begging him to stop, he kept pushing past his son to get at the horse...

    Strange place is Oldham.

  4. We ended up in The Flat Iron on Anfield Road. Must say, the locals were a friendly enough bunch. We took one step inside The Arkles and thought :censored: that. It resembled that bar scene in Star Wars, except with more shell suits.

Haha and that was the Latics pub...

We went in the 12th man, which was a big Liverpool pub. It was fine, no bother and a great chippy next door..

  5. It was. I never saw Wayne play, before my time, but it was really touching. Didn't realise Eusebio had died either.

Saw him once (away at Sheff Weds, in a 5-1 FA Cup defeat) and he was just a kid.

He must have been a bit special because all the big clubs fancied him. So sad for such a young guy.......hope his family saw that applause today. That was touching.

  6. This just shows how some people either have an agenda or just don't understand much about football.

Mellor was superb today, one of our top performers - if not the top.

Some of his passing during the spell we were on top were worldies, knife through butter stuff.

He was embraced by Lee Johnson as he came off and I expect was told that was his best performance since he took charge.

And it came playing out of his most familiar position against Premier League title contenders.

How people can have a go at any of our players given the opposition, let alone after that performance, is just unbelievable.

To single out one of our top performers on the day is quite frankly laughable.

    Here's to opinions and all.....

But can we please stop having a lame Mellor-bating thread every other game please.

Okay, shall we all just agree with you in future?

Sorry that I have an opinion that differs from yours. Although mine has more substance than yours, because he has been less than average under several managers and in the next few years will probably end up playing non league.

As for Mellor being our "top performer"....I can only think that you must be related or something?

Tarky was absolutely superb today!....and if you don't agree with that, you most have an agenda....or you don't understand football?.....Or do we just differ on opinion?

  7. Postman Matt

You're not my favourite poster in the world but, for once, I actually agree with you.

After Rooney, I thought he was the poorest player on the field and has been one of our consistently poor performers.

What Johnson sees in him, I'll never understand.

Shame as he had real potential once upon a time.

    This all over.

Sorry but I didn't want to slag anyone off today because we did very well. However, thought Mellor was very poor and his game is the same week in, week out.

I have stated it many times before (and this top scorer :censored: doesn't wash) Rooney is Sunday league for me, he did :censored: all today, which again is the same game as usual.

Very proud of the team as a collective today, a couple of changes needed please.

  8. Obviously after a quick one in the Blob Shop...

Yates's used to be a stronghold for their hooligans, dont know if it still is or if they will be bothering looking for trouble with and Latics fans???

Anybody any ideas of a decent boozer between Lime Street and Anfield? Was planning walking the 2 miles, but wont get into Lime St until 12ish (on the 11.18 from Piccadilly)?

  9. it's not that, I think once we have a fully fit squad back we don't need these three from what I've seen in parts we've been superb to watch this season. seems to me he's changing course with his philophosy

Why do you need to worry about when we have a fully fit squad back?

We currently don't and need strength in depth.

  10. I wonder if Rick Holden was seen as a great player when he signed for Latics from Watford after Halifax. Lets see, sometimes a certain club just suits a player and they become crowd favourites there. Even the Great Andy Ritchie blossomed at Latics.

Stop trying to talk sense Lags...its getting in the way of the negative tossers who like to complain.

  11. Well, first of all it wasn't addressed to you. Second, you're being pedantic to say the least. Shall i run my posts by you for future approval? How about, "sorry barry for the negativitiy (as opposed to getting excited, i wouldn't want there to be any mix up), but the two signings do no not inspire (sorry, i can't use inspire because no one has asked me to be inspired). How about i feel negative about the two signings (because he uses the word negative). Is that ok?

Or, to put it another way, no one asked me to get excited i'm just expressing an opinion. What's it got to do with you? Why get so upset over it?

Or how about give them a chance before you criticise?

  12. 3 players signed in half an hour.

Lockwood is simply an old-boys signing: slow, rubbish and I'd walk out if he plays at Anfield.

Harkins is a bearded, lazy sod & another old mate of LJ. Might do the odd wonder back-heel but a waste of a wage & also has had a broken leg since he was 7.

Worall isn't good enough for another league one side, and is carrying an injury.

You are just being very negative here.

Give them a chance before you criticise at least.
