  1. Letting Clarke go out on loan was a big mistake. Alright he hasn’t looked as good as last season but he would be good cover in the event of injuries - like now!

He’s a fantastic pro, he’s the archetypal club captain, and he should have been a certainty for a place on the coaching staff when his playing days are finally over.

We look like we desperately need a defensive coach, surely he could be useful to us while he’s under contract and Latics are paying his wages.

He would probably score more goals from that position.

I agree. Could hardly score less!!

i don’t want to knock him because he does hold up the ball pretty well, he gets some great ‘flick ons’ and he’s been very influential when coming on as an impact sub, but he really does need to start shooting more often if he’s playing up front, otherwise he will only ever merit being a sub for me.

Its ok RW saying that Holloway and Davies are too similar, but there’s one big difference. Look at the goal tally. There’s only one of them actually looking to score a goal.

Trying to be positive - Davies is aware of the players that are lined up to come in to the club and doesn’t want to spend the rest of the season on the fringes.

At 32 he needs to be playing regularly.

    Could be a positive sign?

I get that, but unless the players lined up are of Eoin Doyle quality why would Davies be on the fringes? He’s scored 13 goals so far this season. We need players like him in the team.

Latics will probably get next to nothing for him money wise, so I’d keep him for the rest of the season and if we get a good replacement in they could let him go in the summer. Seems silly to offload one of our leading goalscorers given where we are in the League right now.

Holloways none stop running aloud Davies to have a tap in for his first. A striker needs to do more than just score, too many attacks are broken down due to Davies getting bullied but, I've already gone over this and not many of you seem to understand. Won't bother again, wasting my energy typing to people who just look at goal tallies and think it sums a footballer up. ??

What a load of nonsense! Strikers ARE about scoring goals. If Davies goes and Holloway comes in we will be hearing ‘Oldham Nil’ a lot more often.

Still if you want a so-called forward with a strike rate of 1 in 10 then good luck.

Davies will be missed if he goes, mark my words.

We shouldn’t be looking to get rid of Davies unless Coventry are offering daft money for him.  McLaughlin on the other hand, if Millwall or anybody else are offering hard cash for him we should snatch their hands off.  He’s barely featured this season and hasn’t offered much when he has. It took him a while to get going last season too.

    Agreed ?

It seems, to some, the possibility of selling Davies is the same old club policy of desperately plugging an haemorrhaging bank balance.

Surely this must cast serious doubt on the aspirations of our potential new owner. It beggars belief that Al is allowing Corney to sell any decent player that he likes and believes can do a job for Wellens, if Wellens wants to keep him.

The worst thing I see here is Al, with a fair wind, consolidating our L1 position by cashing in on any contracted players judged to be surplus to a concentrated effort on promotion next season.

He is a man with a plan and we have certainly witnessed during the last few months he has not been waiting to be the figurehead before moulding the future. I don't accept this months player movement has been orchestrated by Corney.

Wether Al delivers to our satisfaction will be judged soon enough. I'm optimistic.

I’m optimistic too, I think it could be exciting times ahead. New influx of cash, a bright young manager, playing a brand of football which is really good to watch.

Taking the Davies situation on its own though, IMO they should be keeping him. We need goals in the second half of the season and he’s delivering. Even RW said himself that “he’s in a rich vein of form”.

Why sell him, especially as they’re unlikely to get a big fee given his age.

  7. I cannot see the sense in selling Davies. I said last week that this season we’ve had 2 strikers who have both scored goals. Something we haven’t had for years!

Admittedly one of them was only on loan and he’s unavailable due to unfortunate circumstances, but Davies is ours AND he’s scoring goals for fun.

You can guarantee that if he goes it will be for a nominal fee, because Latics always seem to have their head turned by a bit of money, but how many goals is Holloway going to get? How many would Jonson Clarke-Harris get if he is to be his replacement? Impossible to say, but their respective goal scoring records are pretty abysmal I would say for so called strikers.

The only way that it could be in any way a good move is that if it’s the only way to finance a permanent move for Doyle.

After all, he’s the only player to have scored more goals for Latics this season than Davies, and the only one likely to I would say.

I support the club through a season ticket I buy every year for 26 of the last 27 seasons if we went down I'd still buy one if Corney and his mates fuck up the takeover I will still buy one. But I'm not entertaining the idea of going to Boundary park in this competition aslong as u23's are part of it. I won't be standing at the turnstiles tonight calling people for paying to watch this or even on here, but If you can't understand that I and other football fans of this club and of other clubs across the country feel that way then I suggest its you who needs to get over yourself. If we go to Wembley who knows but the fact I'm even entertaining the thought of not seeing my club at Wembley actually saddens me.

Ha Ha hilarious!! You might throw your principles out of the window if we get to Wembley! Unbelievable!!!! ?????

And it achieved what exactly? Apart from depriving themselves from supporting the team they love.

I agree. It’s ‘cutting off your nose to spite your face’. Can’t see the sense in that myself. Latics are desperate for whatever money they can get through the turnstiles. Support your team and get over yourselves. Nothing to do with being a ‘super fan’, it’s just supporting your club.

I wish the myopic could look back and see how the football league clubs so easily succumbed to Premier League money against the wishes of their fans. It is only a matter of time and a new tv deal before they cave in again to B teams. I will not be at Wembley. I will not watch it on tv. When the inevitable b teams arrive I will boycott those matches.

So are you saying that if we did manage to get to Wembley and played someone like Bury for example, you wouldn’t go, because of your principles re this competition?

But if ‘b teams’ were allowed in the Football League you’d only boycott those games?

Apologies if I’ve misunderstood but if I’m right it all sounds a bit silly and futile.

In any event, what will happen will happen. Do you cut off your nose to spite your face and stop watching Latics because you disagree with how the Football League is run?

You just used the terminology 'end of' therefore have lost the argument......................................FACT

Argument? There’s no argument. It’s a home match for Latics. If you’re a Latics fan and you can get there you should go. It’s about supporting your team, irrespective of what you think of the competition.

People moaning about JCH goal return are the same people who think 1 in 46 Holloway is a good player....

Ha Ha don’t count me in that. Holloway is good at winning headers and holding the ball up, and he’s been very useful as an impact sub in 2 or 3 games this season, but his goalscoring record is abysmal.

My point has been that Davies has scored 10 goals already this season and it makes no sense to me at all to let him go if JCH is to be his replacement because a front two of JCH and Holloway would be disastrous looking at their previous goal tallies. Keep Davies and bring someone like JCH in as support, that’s a much better proposition especially if they can hold on and still have Doyle back as well once he recovers.

Tend to agree but Davies record this season is largely down to our style of play under Wellens (arguably until recently). For the record he scored 18 in 127 for the four clubs previous to us.

Point taken re his goalscoring record this season, but at least that can be classed as good current form, whereas JCH does not have those figures against his name this season, and we are going to need goals. I’d stick with Davies personally and try to get somebody in alongside him.

    Check again tòmorrow.

The manager does a press conference on a Thursday. The first part is conducted by the Latics media guy and goes on ifollow soon after.

In the second part, any journalist who has turned up gets to ask any additional questions they have. This is also filmed but doesn't go on ifollow straight away.

The journalists have 24 hours to get their stories out  on their media platforms. Usually the video is then posted on ifollow as 'press conference part 2'  the following afternoon.

This seems like a pretty fair system to me. It allows the journos to get some decent new content out there before it goes on ifollow.

The reason a lot of the info wasn't in the first ifollow interview is that the Latics media guy didn't ask any questions about Davies, Menig, the takeover etc.

Cheers for that. I’ll look out for it. ?
