It's got to be a rare thing for 3 no brainer appointments - Clarke, Mellon and Cowley - who've all been promoted from this league and/or the one above in the recent past to all be available.
3 options where, whilst it's never guaranteed, it would be highly unlikely that they'd fail.
I hope the board don't over complicate it.

Obviously yeah. But I was responding to "every manager at every club" rather than using it as a reason for keeping DU. It's the norm for a sacking in those situations, a lot of clubs would have done it. Look at what Salford have done over the last few years for example. They have expectations of promotion and have been churning through the managers, most with decent reputations and cvs. They're still in the same league now.
If they get rid of DU and the new boss struggles, I'd hope they give him the same amount of patience. I think that's a better strategy in the long term.
Really? I'd hope they'd learn and give him way less.

Cook at Chesterfield had a run like that last season and they fell away from the title race. There would have no doubt been fans calling for his head at the time based on your thinking here. I don't think that's fair, it's far too reactionary.
Cook had shown plenty in his career and his stints at Chesterfield to warrant being given time.

That in itself is a problem that we are considering 1 year a long period of time for a manager.
It's a long time for an inept manager demonstrating zero likelihood of improving a teams fortunes.
It wouldn't be a long time for a proven/promising manager clearly taking a team in the right direction.

Wouldn’t let Unsworth sign a Birthday card…..
If you received one from the lying bastard you'd have to double check it was truly your birthday....

There was a tweet recently saying that the Rothwells/Royles/the board want us to be seen as a club where managers are given time.
If true they seem to be confusing giving a manager time who's come in and shown something (like Joe did in his first season) once his inevitable first blips come along with giving ANY manager time regardless of whether he does anything to earn it.
Any prospective manager looking in would already be perfectly happy that this absolute non entity has been given way more time than he's earnt.
So, mission accomplished already.
Now roll the dice, and then roll it again if need be until we get somebody in who shows something to warrant being given time.

I don't see what others are seemingly seeing in Raglan - at the moment.
I've not seen anyone saying they're seeing anything in Raglan....
I'm reluctant to judge any player under Unsworth but he's been a big disappointment so far, as a CB and a leader....
I'd still start him ahead of Hogan though...
Alongside Hobson who looked half decent (and way more likely to progress) on Saturday

It all seems a bit strange that Unsworth has banged on about a good pre season since he got here, said he was doing all his business early at the end of last season, now we seem to be in a mad scramble to bring in more new players every week.
And the shining lights in the 5-1 win were the 3 lads who'd arrived last minute and played little or no part in pre season
All part of the (AMAZING!) sTrucTurED rECruiTMenT StrATegy no doubt

This isn't a hijack every topic Unsworth out post... But, I am struggling to get the same level of excitement I'd normally get when a "big name" is incoming.
Exactly the same here.
I was buzzing when Norwood signed.
2 weeks on I'm flattened and any signing, no matter how good, seems utterly pointless until our real problem is addressed.

I'm more bothered about nearly every sentence starting with 'yeah, no'. Where did that weird linguistic tic derive from?
Shez is terrible for it.
Every man has at least one fault though, even him....

Unreal signing. Signing of the summer by anyone in our league.
Expectations now through the roof though. You say that as if it's a bad thing.....

If we do get another forward in, be it Norwood or someone else, I wonder if that's on Joe Royle's say so moreso than Unsworth's....
He liked to collect strikers and it usually served him well, us included....

It just looks a bit odd given the fuss they made at the time of him signing.
If there is anything in the Norwood rumours then you'd have to think him or Reid's game time will be very limited.
It's a long season.
They'll all get a chance at some point with injuries, poor form and Big Mike's red cards.....

Didn’t Unsworth bring John Rooney in and then banish him.
Raved about Timmy and then bombed him out as well.
Diabolical what he is looking like doing to Willoughby but he seems to have form for it
I've no problem with a manager bringing a player in, not fancying him and moving quickly to remedy it rather than keep playing him in the forlorn hope he might come good.....
Get the Royle's & Rothwell's on the same track with regards to managers and we've cracked it....

Surely if we were to sign Norwood that would be on a par, if not better than chesterfield signing will grigg. Barnsley fans reckon he’ll get 20+ goals this season and that’s in league one. He would be looking to do some serious damage in this league, but he would also be looking for some serious money. He’s not going to come cheap, especially if we have to outbid Wrexham.
If he scores 20+ goals, passes on his nouse to the younger lads and plays an integral part in us going up he'll be very cheap.
Profitable.
It's the shit players who work out costly.

Norwood would come here for one reason and one reason only - if we offer him huge money.
It's an easier job too.
And one that should be very enjoyable if he's banging in shitloads of goals in a promotion chasing team in front of decent, adoring crowds.
I always wonder how often that's all a factor with players who drop down.....

Its interesting from some of the comments on here what seems to be classed as success or failure. I wrongly assumed that getting promoted would be seen by everyone as being success and a vindication of the board sticking with Unsworth last season. But it looks like style of play or how we start and other factors like that might still mean he fails in the eyes of some even if he takes us up.
Nothing wrong with that I guess, everyone is entitled to their own views and to what they want to see when they watch the game. I'm just a bit surprised after all this time without a promotion!
I couldn't care less about style of play.
Any style that resulted in promotion would be fine by me.

Integral to our poor season, or integral to being 3rd in form table in the new year?
Our poor season.

Yes, his preference will be experienced players not young loanees.
The only experienced player that's signed is Raglan who was offered to us out of the blue rather than targeted....
