  1. Hardly a brave statement as the season dont start until August lol

If (and it wont be) was our starting line up 1st game of the season then panic would kick in for us all, there is a big rumour down here in the south that we have been linked with Jeff Hughes former Bristol Rovers player, he rejected a new offer as wanted to stay in league 1, we would be able to afford his wages at least im sure i got this from a Bristol City fan though who knows Byron Anthony so stayed tunned

Thing is players only come of holiday this week in most cases so expect more movement in the next 2 weeks for sure i would say

Ten goals in forty matches from midfield last season and a N Ireland international ........ B)

  2. I still don't understand we paid Bury money for Stephens and as part of the deal they would get 20% of the fee we get. If we don't get a fee then we can't give 20% of it. 20% of nothing is nothing.

    Let's say this slowly.

An exchange of players - if there is a sell on fee applying to one or both of them - is referred to a tribunal. This is so clubs get what is rightly theirs.

Not sure how much more clearly to explain it.

  3. if stephens goes to norwich on a free and mcdonald comes here as 2 'seperate' deals the bury get 20% of nothing.

    Let's not be naive.

Bury would, correctly, lodge a complaint with the Football League on the basis that Oldham & Norwich conspired to cheat them out of 20% of the value of a player , Stephens, that a matter of weeks before Oldham had valued as worth a significant amount (see statements from the club).

  4. then why on earth did we let him go out on loan for nothing !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Surely Latics are not that naive to let him go on a loan without a fee (like we had to pay for Beckett) or a firm agreement for them to sign him ?

We did get a fee. AH or SC said so at the time.

  5. Believe clubs have to accept the agreed value so little Bury can do in that scenario you win some you lose some ie Porter .....

But if he is valued at £500K (or whatever) by a tribunal then Bury are entitled to 20% in cash and would Latics have it. . That's the point that was being made by LeylandLatic.

OldhamAndy - sell on clauses are binding even if it's a swap deal with a valuation made by a tribunal.

There's been the same discussion about Micah Richards.

  7. Not yet but we're on the way to the shed for the pitch-forks, tbh i'm not bothered about him leaving - there's better out there. If he's lied then that's up to him, at the end of the day what can we do, but to take him at his word? I'm sure if he does sign over t'hill then we'll welcome him back to BP in the traditional manner next season…

    Indeed, and fair enough.

Just think he's only a young lad and isn't necessarily always going to make the best decisions.

  8. The principle behind your post is fair but in practical terms I honestly can't see it making a bit of difference to ST sales.

The discount period is over. If someone has decided that they still want to get a ST despite higher prices it's not going to be an impulse thing. I suppose it would be interesting to look at ST sales in this period historically and the club has this data.

Anyway who knows ....maybe they're preparing for a surge when the new striker signs!!??

  9. Based on that and seeing ours our made in far-eastern sweat-shops we'd have to get our lot dressed up in drag, and that given the fact our players are deserting us like rats from a sinking ship, their promises to 'Love us, long time….' may ring a little hollow….

Mind you, would you tell Gerry Taggert he's got to wear lipstick and sussies?

Mind you, if Hardy manages to 'pull-off' the Bangkok lady boys, being present at the launch - now that may be worth seeing!

What a miserable b you are!

  10. Absolutely agree! It's hard to get excited with a new team everyear. I seriously think we should go back to basics and only play local players who have ideally come through our system, put more money in to that and re-invest any fees we get form the gems. I don't know why thirs division clubs are signing foreign mercenaries and journeymen who have never heard of Oldham

    Non league here we come

We've always had "outsiders" be they Scottish, Welsh, from Geordieland, London, etc. Right from tjhe start of the club as a professional outfit.

  11. To my horror, my ex wife dressed my 3 year old daughter in a Liverpool kit the other day. When I asked my daughter why, she said her Latics one was now too small!

This is obviously my fault, but I can't lose her to them!

If anyone has an infant kit/shirt that is too small for their child and they want it to go to a good home, PM me. I will be willing to part with a tenner or put to Player Share.

I begrudge paying £35 for one as have done in the past, for it to be changed and grown out of so quickly, but will probably get her one soon anyway.

She is 3, but 4 in October, so size 3-5 would suit.

    Cheers

    DOne it to spite you?

  12. Football has been a game that tests skill, teamwork and character in all conditions. It's a game of skill but is also a physical one. It brings them together.

Great matches have been played in foul conditions. Great players have been those that excelled in cold and sleet, just as great players have excelled on billiard table surfaces.

A winter break may have some plus points but I can't help but feel that it would take away some of the real attributes of the game. Our climate is not the same as Scandinavia or Russia. The number of postponement we had last season in the exception rather than the norm.

    No winter break!
