I've just suggested one in the transfer rumours thread.
I must have the wrong end of the stick. I thought we were talking about we now have no safety net regarding our youth players. In that they can be took for nowt and not about older players.
Any road I think you've posted before about the Colwyn Bay lad. Be interesting to see who's in for him now he's out of contract

Agreed Lundstrum strength is taking the ball to feet and turning a tight maker and getting on the front foot. However you need me more than one string to your bow to be a good midfielder.
His tracking back upon breakdown of play leaves lots to be desired.
-
Lundstrum came build as a box to box midfielder. He maybe, but a painfully slow one. Sprinting back to make a break up tackle he is not. So for me he's a luxury player who others need to do the defensive work for him.

My point is Rugby League players already have that quality particularly if they are playing at any sort of level, desire for them is a necessity, if they didn't have it they'd be found out whereas footballers can hide.
Yet I'd wager footballers get more and worse injuries.

Wayne Andrews and Fitz Hall from Chesham?
Edit: though we did pay a fee for Hall, I think.
Did we not pay a fee for both? They weren't youth players.

There's a simple answer. We shouldn't have allowed ourselves to be in this position. The sooner we put that right the better. Boot on the other foot. Though I can't recall us ever raiding a non league club for their star for nowt.

Matty Warhurst just came on for Man City u18 in their cup final v Leeds and scored a very good goal. Currently a regular for the England u17's and City's youth top scorer on 21 for the season. No idea if we got cash for him but the lads doing well for now.

Oh I know we are nothing a like we will never achieve what they have done this season but they are punching way above their weight and we should take inspiration from any team that does. I think the population of the town or city a team comes into it as its an indicator of your potential support.
Agreed there, if we ever get up to the dizzy heights of the championship we certainly will be punching. That said I can remember very well Latics being the longest serving 2nd division club by a long long way back in the day.
Currently I take inspiration and hopes from Luton Town who I hope we can mirror.

Going off topic here a little but I've just seen Bayer Leverkusen who are now 49 games unbeaten and are going for a historic treble and going a whole season unbeaten its quite incredible. They aren't owned by an oil state attempting to sports wash and The population of Leverkusen is 163000 the population of Oldham is 235000.
I know the dynamics are very different between Oldham Athletic and Bayer Leverkusen but it does show that if you get alot of things right then even today you can punch significantly above your own weight.
Sorry, oldham and Leverkusan football clubs are nothing alike regardless of the populations. OK we used to have a bandage company whilst Leverkusen have the mighty Bayer company. Plus the later are wholly owned by the giant. The populations are irrelevant.

Good interview and plenty of the questions posed since the season end addressed.
Time for the detractors to find new moans.

At this time last year Latics tweeted that 2,500 (and counting) season tickets had been sold.
In August the Oldham Times reported that 3,700 season tickets had been sold, just prior to the opening league fixture.
Today's figure, 9th May (as per ticket office) about 2800 Sold.

Really enjoying this play off final. Great game.
Shows how important working for each other is, this is worlds apart from the team we watched over those last couple of months.
Penalties it is..... who will win it?

Winning entertaining sides always see an increase in crowds, everyone knows that. What we need is that mentality we had after Moore's exit and fire sale. Leaving the fans and Dowie over achieving with lesser players. Those players left absolutely nothing on the pitch and fans never stopped supplying support from the terraces.
Out of those who have choose to not renew, some will never come back after finding other things to do that become their normal. Some will have a change of heart and return and we will pick up some new fans who arrive with mates.
A winning side even at this level will increase the crowd. The big question is, will Frank fund it to that point without the oldham folk backing him?

Do they not always extend it eventually?
I think this is the 2nd?. At some point it becomes pointless doing early bird offers. Peter and the wolf!.

And this is why we should bring back downvotes...
No one needs an emoji to express they disagree with AndyB on his opinion here.
AndyB, chin up brother in the end if we all stick together and support Frank and the club we will pull back.
Not surprised the club wheeled out the one big gun we currently have to try drum up the ST push. It tells us we are below the figures the club hope to sell.

If you say things that aren’t true, and then go to the effort of pulling old posts up to prove they are- only to be wrong again- there’s only one of us digging.New Players not signing a good contract because of an Interview was never in issue.
New players seeing that and hearing about it from players already here isn’t good.
The first one is about money and looking after yourself.
The second one is about putting your best performances in for a divisive manager.
The manager isn't divisive...certain elements in the playing staff are divisive. Every manager tells players they don't figure or do figure in their plans.

I think people need to calm down placing so much faith that Stones will be the messiah. Really are setting the lad up for a fall.
Sure, he did well in his cameo appearances but he's still young, raw and learning his trade.

Palace in for a defender from Peterborough for in excess of £15m. Barnet get half of any fee
If a tenth of that is put into the squad budget on top of normal funding then Barnet will be a big player next season. Chances are they will be anyway.
-
Equally they are paid professionals and if called on they should give their all. Prove their worth to new clubs or Mellon.

Lags- let me be absolutely crystal clear. The players are and have been a collective shambles.
But you’re confusing siding with them and the reality of the situation.
Mellon is telling us in a myriad of different ways- that he is stuck with these players. He’s bemoaning publicly he can’t move them on. He’s telling us he’s knows what good looks like and the contracted players aren’t that. He’s telling us the squad need an overhaul.
Mellon doesn’t win the games. The players do. If you think that his diatribe will have no effect on current players still needed next season then fine, but I think he has shot himself in the foot.
If this was remotely possible, I wouldn’t have a single problem with what he said. Let’s get rid of 36 players by hook or crook and let him mould it as he sees fit.
But that isn’t the realty is it????
He has a lot of players, who he has slated but will still need because he can’t sack them all.
He doesn’t want them there, but expects them to perform??? Doesn’t make any sense.
Look at it from a different angle. Had mellon kept it in house and no one outside the club were non the wiser, these unwanted bad apples get free reign to sit on the sidelines collecting their wedge. Now....everyone knows and there's no hiding if that's what they do. Yes reality is they can still do that, they have a contact but when mellon banishes them everyone knows why.
