so that would make an average of 20.24 goals a season if he played every game of the season, which would make him one of the top strikers, what are we expecting? 35+ per striker :S

You can’t just pro rata the goals per game ratio over a full season and say that it’s definite that’s how many he would have scored if he’d been fit all year.

I could just as easily say that in his last 8 appearances he scored once, so using those stats he’d manage five goals if he’s fit all next year.

If we see a fully fit Lee Hughes next season and he bags 25/30 goals (as some seem to think is nailed on) then to call him the best striker we’ve had for the last 10 years will probably be right. As of yet though it’s all guesswork, so he’s done nowhere near enough to earn that title.

Yes he did, where did he reappear a year later, scoring twice in a televised game ?

I WOULD like to mention Harold Dean, a lifelong Latics fan who passed away on the morning of the third-round victory over Everton.

 

I attended his funeral and was reminded of the deep passion which genuine football fans have for their team.

 

Harold, I’m sure that tomorrow you will be looking down on Boundary Park, where I was extremely proud to have played for YOUR team!

Did you know Harold Dean, and if so was he Phil Dean's dad? I used to work with Phil for a long time but haven't seen him in ages. His dad was a big Latics fan called Harry, and a top bloke as well. Whether it is or isn't him it's obviously a sad loss, and brilliant of Carssy to mention him like that.

How can you class Beckett a greedt . I heard that a contract was never offered in the first place.

I don't, but there are plenty of others that do. Or at least that's what they tell him every time we play Huddersfield.

Killkenny said a few weeks ago that it was highly likely he would not extend his loan. OK he was talking about returning to Brum to see what his first team chances were once Bruce has left, but I can hardly see how he can be accused of stringing anyone along.

Yet another player who does a good job for us, but the minute he decides to ply his trade elsewhere he becomes crap, a greedy b*stard etc, ala Porter, Wellens, Beckett etc

I doubt whether there is anyone at the club who plays for the love of Latics only, and would be amazed if any of them were offered a pay rise and a move to Leeds they would turn it down, no matter what anyone else thinks.

It hurts because I think he’s a cracking player and I can’t stand Leeds, but some of the abuse he’s getting on here is bordering on the ridiculous.

Oh, and these corners he so poor at, it’s not like we’ve scored from all the others he hasn’t taken over the last few years is it.

But that's just the point - he wasn't having a go from a personal point of view, he was pointing out that certain people were depriving OAFC of revenue.

How the hell is someone who buys a season ticket depriving the club of revenue.

Probably just needs something simple:

"You want our Council Tax

We want our stadium passed"

When I was 13, I used to march in the same Boy's Brigade troop as Councillor Roger "Just Say No" Hindle. Last night was the first time that I'd seen him in 30 years.

 

He still hasn't replied to my email!

Do you have his e-mail address? I used to work with him many moons ago and to be honest he was a right prat then. He hasn't changed much, except for a massively expanded waistline, no doubt due to those council lunches that we all pay for.

Back then he was, or claimed to be, a Latics fan, so I need to remind him of that, amongt other things.

There are many reasons that I’m against the Lee Hughes signing. Like many people it’s not just the fact that his actions resulted in death and serous injury, but it’s his cowardly fleeing from the scene of the crime that ultimately resulted in him receiving a lesser sentence that really sticks in the craw.

Then there’s the fact that it will do nothing but drag the name of Latics through the mud. The media circus has hardly started yet, and our reputation amongst other fans will be at an all time low, especially as I can see some of our lot turning him into something of a cult hero to counteract the stick he will get from the opposition.

There has been a spate of traffic accidents in Oldham recently resulting in tragic deaths. If Hughes has perpetrated his crime in the town with a local person dying would we still be of the mind that everyone deserves a second chance?

Actually I’m all for giving people such a chance but in my opinion they have to earn it first, not be given it on a plate like he has. All the contact has been initiated by the club, who see goals and promotion before morals, which doesn’t rest easy with me at all.

I could go on and on, but I’ve not got time. I’m like Ross on this one, if he plays for us and scores I’ll celebrate the fact that Latics have scored, not the scorer, and I’ll be hoping that the present strike-force keep him way away from the first team. Given the fact that he’s not played for three years anyway, there’s every chance he’ll not be much cop anyhow, which makes this whole episode make even less sense.

I’m against it and really wish it wasn’t happening, but unfortunately it’s gone to far now and our good name has already been besmirched. Ultimately, if Lee Hughes is to get my respect then he’s going to have to earn it, and his actions off the field will probably determine that more than what he does on it. If he bags 20 goals but proves to be a right arse showing little remorse then he’s not welcome here as far as

I’m concerned.

He’s been given a chance that I personally wouldn’t have given him, and he’s a long way to go in making me change my mind, but in the end it’s down to him.
