But he can't last longer than about an hour in most games even when fit, doesn't strike me as the type a team winning the League needs unless he's happy on 800 a week as a bit part player. I agree he was probably the pick of the midfielders particularly back end but a very low bar was set to acheive that.

Oh I don’t think we should offer him a new contract. Thank him and move on.

I just have a lot of respect for the bloke.

Why are you suspicious of one of the players who actually runs, tackles and plays forward, as opposed to those who can’t be bothered?

Yes he is fragile and is he worth a new contract for that reason, but he is not one of the “I don’t care if I play” brigade.

Always knew he was our best midfielder, but my respect went up for him those last few games.

He was the only one that truly looked like he was trying to drag us into the playoffs. He was even apologetic at the end of games and tried to distance himself from the other players.

Clearly had a genuine connection with the club and for that I respect him.

Indeed - we try to prevent duplicate threads because we pay-per-click and that can just cause more costs (we are still barely breaking even each month, even with the Ads that went rogue recently), so the less we have people clicking on the same thing twice the better. However, I wasn't thinking and didn't realise this was the season-long "who we got...?" thread and not a repetition of the other "we are shit and need new players" ones elsewhere.

I don’t know if you do this or how you record the financial side of things.

Have you consider reporting the deficit each month ? Im sure people would be willing to donate more if they had a clear picture of the cost/shortfall each month.

Happy to help with this, if needed.

Really really happy with this news. Hogan had a good patch playing in a 3, but is beyond a liability in a 2.

Sheron, well, he’s simply not good enough for any team looking to be competitive on a consistent basis. Absolutely shit footballer.

The contribution from the backline was woeful last season but those stats aren't true.

    Kitching G0/A4
    Hobson G0/A0
    Raglan G0/A2
    Hogan G1/A3
    Sutton G0/A2

Was going to point this out but couldn’t be arsed.

I must say, I think that’s the worst Oldham side I have ever seen from set plays, and the coaching team need to take responsibility for that.

Be it the delivery, or the lack of any attacking intent by the players in the box, it’s been a shambles all season.

Good delivery and attack the ball, don’t wait for a lofted delivery to hit your head.

Makes a nonsense then of why Mellon is indicating the budget has already been met on the current batch of players still in contract. Which one is it? 🤪 I hope you're right, btw.

Like I’ve said previously, if Frank and Co are stupid enough to have overspent on the following years budget on 18 players including youth players, we are in far more trouble than debating who our manager is.

    They are not that incompetent.

Do we place many of our faults on defence though. In terms of goals conceded, we were nowhere near the worst. In fact out of the top seven teams, we were one of the best if you're measuring that.

Creativity, goals scored, converting draws into wins and breaking down stubborn teams were all massive weaknesses which need severely addressing this summer. I'm not sure the likes of McGahey and our centre halves contribute in those areas, other than not scoring enough goals themselves as a collective. Therefore, for me, not too much needs changing amongst the personnel there.

I’m not saying change them, I’m saying we have to many and we should spend the budget elsewhere.

We do not need 5 centre backs plus a youth centre back. It’s ridiculous.

He put his brother in charge of all footballing matters and, despite repeated failings in the transfer window, never ever got rid of him.

He brought in swathes of random French third/fourth tier players with the hopes of flipping them for profit because their agents were his mates or potentially even himself, so there was little to no scouting done on the quality of these players.

He stuck Queensy Menig on £15k per week or something ridiculous in League One.

He went into the dressing room on multiple occasions to berate players, completely undermining any manager in place at the time.

He stuck his mate, Selim, in charge of the club for two months.

He repeatedly lied to fans, promising five year plans and detailed strategies of things he would change at the club and never delivered.

He was at the club for four and a half years and hired 11 managers in that time, so either his recruitment process was shite or his patience was shite.

He kept Barry Owen employed for the majority of his time at the club, despite Owen being at the scene of the crime for the previous regime's disastrous end.

The Abdallah timeline is here for you to remind yourself.

I do genuinely believe that he bought a club that was in a far worse condition than he anticipated when he took over, which was probably partially due to a lack of due diligence on his part but also due to the previous owners hiding certain things to ensure a sale could happen. But Abdallah wasn't just some unfortunate guy who took over a mess that nobody could make work - he was a fucking idiot who was as instrumental in Oldham's decline into the National League as anybody else, perhaps more so in many ways.

    Amen.

Let’s not rewrite history for this tosser.

    He was at best, stupid.
