    Yes but Warhurst replaced him at right back & Irwin never would have played left back for us.

     

    r.e Cole I got my time lines wrong so fair enough. Isn't hindsight a wonderful thing. 400k for a completely unknown striker? That will be why we didn't buy him. McCarthy had scored 70 plus at this point & went in to score plenty for us. He was a very good buy.

     

    The striker we should have gone for and was strongly linked with was John Aldridge, knocked em in for for a good 5 years after returning from Spain in 1991 for our bogey team. Wasn't Irwin's RB spot split 3 ways in 90/91, Warhurst, Donachie and Gunnar?

    Well, if there was a test draw earlier when ball 61 was picked it would have taken a fraction of a second longer to say and complete said draw as Sheffield Utd is a syllable longer than Oldham Athletic, just that difference would have changed the initial conditions drastically for the events from that point until the end of the draw.

     

    True, if Sheff Utd pulled out Sheff Wed in the practice, this may have lead to a bit of banter that wouldnt have happened if Latics had been drawn and therefore the future has been altererd irreversibly.

    back in 1997 I sat despondent on the coach home from Reading, knowing relegation to the third tier was

    more or less confirmed.

     

    I then consoled myself that after 3 :censored:e seasons we'd be playing at a lower level but this meant that we'd

    start winning again, challenging for promotion and getting back the fans that were fleeing back down the A62.

     

    18 years later, here we are.

     

    Relegation with the currrent financial set up, I just see cloth cutting, further freefall and sub 2,000 gates.

     

    As for attracting fans back in 2015, some of those I used to go with - or know went - are six feet under, it'd take an

    amazing special ticket deal and brazil-like football to attract them back !!!

    Saw this berk play for Southend at my local ground Accrington a couple of years back, without

    doubt the worst defender I ever seen... even my 8 year old daughter kept asking me why that guy with

    the pony tail was helping Accrington win.. oh, then he was sent off :redcard:
