  1. The most we will get is a couple of shirts shoved in a back corner... its stupid to expect otherwise, unfortunately JD is one of the Chaviest (word?) shops on the planet, shove an Oldham shirt in the front window and it alienates 90% of their customer base, who will all claim to support ManUtd - despite not being able to name more than 5 of their players...

I cant see how promoting Oldham in any JD shop will do any of us any favours... you may sell a couple of extra shirts, but that probably depends on individual store managers....

A shop in Oldham aint gonna work... there just isnt the customer base.... might sound odd, but its true. All latics fans will buy merchandise from the club shop on matchdays, and I just fail to believe there is enough passing trade, who would on a whim suddenly become interested in attending matches...or go ooh, an oldham pennant, how lovely, I'll biy that.....

marketing needs to have a reason, and an attraction, get the team playing well, get an offer of some sort, and do concentrated marketing for that - you have to make the proposition attractive. If you get an offer, and we are still playing well, then do a concerted effort to flood the town - the chron, one of the hireable areas in the spindles, hot girls handing out flyers etc.... one big hit is better than a pointless drip-feed.

Just shoving a pointless shop in an apathetic town for no reason, will do exactly nothing.

    good points.

i've been going for 20 years (f**k i'm getting old), about half of which I've had a season ticket, and in that time I bought the 1990-91 top (I was 15) and the dark blue 3rd kit top (reduced) in February, purely because I was going travelling and wanted a Latics top to wear in photos at certain world landmarks.

during good times this idea would be workable albeit as a loss leader.

at the moment - you're having a laugh.

  2. Personally I am absolutely sick to death of all this PR stuff. Corney wears his heart on his sleeve. You can get someone to dress that up all you want but the message is clear. The size of our support is nothing short of shameful whichever way you cut it. If Corney upsets a few people by telling the truth - well they need to get out more.

He is laying the cards on the table. Back us and we'll continue to back the club. Don't and we won't. Fair do's I say. At least he is giving the Oldham public a chance at it instead of just selling Taylor and Eardley without even thinking about it.

    Just my opinion.

don't you love the way so many on here contrive to make out he's having a pop at those of us who DO GO just for the opportunity to have a moan?

  3. Would an asian first team player or two increase the gate?

Whilst on the subject of Asian first team players, there must be plenty of Asian women in the Oldham area aged between 60 and 64, who would go to BP if they could get a concession. They're on reduced income of State Pension but senior concessions don't start at BP until age 65. It's another group of the community that could be encouraged to attend

  4. What do I maen....well a mobile van that goes to the big estates at a certain time in a given street....smacks of the ice cream van system

so, in your minds eye, you've got a van turning up in the middle of limeside playing "Mouldy Old Dough" and loads of kids running into their parents screaming "mum, dad, can I have some money for an ice crea....errr.....latics ticket?".

  5. could the club try to change some of their home fixtures (the ones where the away team are expected to bring a limited following) to a friday night so it is not clashing with the tv football?

friday night fixtures are worth a try IMHO.

the reality is that there are a hell of a lot of people who would go to a few games but would rather sit in the pub on a saturday afternoon, especially with these Arab channels.

  6. Whilst on the subject of other members of the family, there must be plenty of women in the Oldham area aged between 60 and 64, who would go to BP if they could get a concession. They're on reduced income of State Pension but senior concessions don't start at BP until age 65. It's another group of the community that could be encouraged to attend.

    EUREKA!

  7. First of all, I am a season ticket holder and have been going to BP for nearly 40 years so nothing will stop me going.

But, I wonder how many floating fans are put off going to Latics because the latest scores/results of the live tv football/rugby/cricket match are announced.

I will V+ say the Champions League games when Latics play on a Tuesday night, but I hear at least the half time score and sometimes full time score if I am unlucky and that ruins it for me.

It is hard enough to get people out of their armchair on a freezing Tuesday night, but they may just be tempted if they knew they coud watch the TV match "as live" when they get home.

The same thing applies when international rugby matches or The Grand National are held on a Saturday.

I asked the club not to announce these scores/results, but they said people like to know. How do they know? And how do they know how many potential fans are put off?

If people do want to know they can take a radio or a mobile phone with internet or wait until they get home to find out.

never heard anything so ridiculous in my life.

  8. For starters, the club's statement last week on standing and swearing.

If Shez can't see Lidds is past it, he's the wrong man for the job.

Silly notions that we're going up when we've been very lucky so far this season...we're going nowhere.

Having to watch football at what is now a 3-sided dump.

If the club thinks I'm spending money on yet another new shirt, they're very much mistaken.

Neal Eardley...3m? Come off it...he's gash (did you see him on Weds?), ship him out.

Groaning, groaning, groaning. All you get at BP. Fed up of it.

never looked at it like that before.

ok then, i'm not going either.

  9. looking ahead, if/when we do get up are we gonna have a spate of threads along the lines of "we might have got promoted but next season's what matters. it's divisions like the Championship we need to get results in, never mind league 1".

FFS - times are good. enjoy it.

(PS - can I do the "this Colchester game's the most important............" thread after we've beat Cheltenham & Burnley??? )
