Good and sad to see the old fella go. Was originally the Ford stand when I was a lad. Didn't we win it in a competiition??
We got it with the £70,000 we earned for winning the Ford Sporting League in 1971. It was a competition where you gained points for bookings and sending offs, and the team with the least points won (I think). I'm sure one of the gurus on here will be able to come up with the details.

Indeed not only is Eric an Oldhamer but also an ex Director of the Club.
I vaguely remember an old black and white comedy film where Eric Sykes appears in one scene wearing a track suit top, with Oldham Athletic written accross the back. Don't suppose anyone has any idea what the film was.

the donny game was a laser beam, it was an english rather than american one.
More likely it was Japanese, but I don't know how to spell that either!
-
Just heard about that little **** Ronaldo having a lazer shone at him last night and the subsequent EUFA enquiry. Reminded me of the incident at Doncaster earlier this season when some knob in the Donny end was shining a similar beam at Beresford (or was it Crossley? memory is getting worse. Cant remember whether it was the JPT or FA cup game). Did we put in a complaint about that? I seem to remember Beresford/Crossley spoke to the ref about it. And if we did complain what happened? Strange how we don't get a EUFA enquiry!

Who have come back to score against us. With Warney playing against us on Saturday we got to talking about former Latics players who have come back to score against us. We came up with:
Luke Beckett on more than one occasion
Michael Ricketts this season for Walsall
Ian Marshall for Ipswich in 199?
I'm pretty sure that Wayne Andrews has put one past us at some time.
That was all we could come up with. Anyone else?

You've got to accentuate the positive
Eliminate the negative
Latch on to the affirmative
Don't mess with Mister In-Between
You've got to spread joy up to the maximum
Bring gloom down to the minimum
Have faith or pandemonium
Liable to walk upon the scene.

Not just a font of all football knowledge, but a song for every occassion as well!

Can't believe some people are writing us off already. We are just as likely to go on a good run as those above us are to go on a bad run. With Latics anything and everything is possible!

Hello nephew, nice to see you've joined at last

Fantastic news and well done to those who did all the work behind the scenes. Whose going to come up with an appropriate song?

Can't make it unfortunately as I don't finish work until 5, and cant do 100 miles in an hour. As well as all the other mails I've sent to various people, I've sent a mail to Alan Hardy and the TTA this morning expressing my support, and will be there with you in spirit. I take it that someone will let us all know the outcome on here as soon as possible after the decision.

Can we have 3 seats please. Myself, meatpaste and ctblue. All beardy bus virgins

Just seen this and realised it's exactly the same as the one I just posted form Cllr Bashforth. I actually (stupidly) thought it was a personal response.
Mods, please feel free to delete/merge my post as it is just a duplicate of this one.

Having pointed out to Mr Bashforth that his standard reply had not answered my questions, and also pointing out that my name is not Melvin (see previous post), I have now received the following from him:
Dear Mr Castle,
I am at work in my day job at the moment and am finding it difficult to reply to emails and do my job, but I would be willing to call you and discuss this with you if you wish. Because of a number of very nasty and abusive phone calls I have received I am not using my home phone at the moment, but would be happy to call you at your convenience if you would leave me your number.Failing this I will try to answer fully your questions as soon as I can over the weekend.
This brings up a couple of points. Anyone phoning his house with abusive remarks is not doing the club, fans, or Oldham any favours. They will not deal with anyone who refuses to carry out a constructive argument.
Secondly I'm not sure how to progress the offer of a phone call. I'm not sure I could keep my cool, but also don't know where I would want to take the conversation. Has anyone else received this offer? If so how have you replied? Should I take him up on his offer, and if I do what should I expect to get out of it?
Any ideas/comment would be appreciated.

Superb. Can we get it linked to or from the official site?

I got the same reply from Bashforth. Mine starts with "Dear Melvin" when my name is Tony! The attention to detail just fills me with confidence!!

I sent a message of support to Alan Hardy last night. Thought you may like to see his reply:
Tony, Thanks for your email.[/color] Yesterday was probably the busiest day I have ever experienced in my 26 years at Latics, my email inbox nearly gave up on me. I assure you I will do my best to achieve a satisfactory outcome to all this for the benefit of the club and its fans. Meetings will be ongoing today and over the weekend so we may not be able to issue a statement now until early next week. I don't know if you are able to join in the protest march tomorrow but if you can that would be great, if not please encourage as many people as possible to support the event. I will be there. Regards Alan
The main point seems to be that we will have to wait until next week for an update. So let's keep our fingers crossed and keep up the pressure. See you at the march Saturday.

I have mailed AH with support, Bashforth to say how I feel, and also contacted the League Leader magazine. I think that it is important to try to make fans of all the smaller clubs aware of our problem. Not only may they be in a similar situation one day, but we may well generate support from outside our community from other like minded people.

Great idea, myself and meat paste will be there, and I'll try and drag a couple of others along as well.

Can't make it (work) which is annoying as it is only 35 miles away. Still I went to Donny last week, and home on Saturday, so I think I've had my punishment for this week.

Saw the guy throw the ball away...sheer quality, I'll buy him a beer if I meet him. It was ironic that the time wasting actually worked against Crewe in the end, as it was them that needed the game to go on.
I wondered why we needed to go 2 down before we started to play. IMO we played the best football of this season towards the end of the first half, and for long periods in the second half. But why can't we start off playing like that? Anyway, looking forward to Tuesday, bring on Leeds.

Our beautiful game really is all about opinions isn't it. I thought George McVitie was a very decent player for us. (Right winger if I remember correctly). He scored a very good goal away at Bristol Rovers on BBC Match of the Day over the Easter period when we stuffed Southport home and away over the same weekend. Those results sorted the season out for us and unless my memory is playing me up (again) we won the title by one point?????
I'm not saying he didn't score a few goals, he just seemed to have more comedy moments than most. If you're refering to the 73-74 season he did score against Bristol Rovers, and got 9 in total that season. As you say we then went on to win the ttitle by one point from Bristol Rovers as well.

Not sure that I can hate any Latics player. But for uselessness, can any of you remember George McVitie? Used to get a great cheer when he came on cos we knew we were in for a laugh!
As for players from other teams it has to be Mark Hughes. Will never forgive him!

It was me, as I'm ex 8 and 23 Sqns. As said I was also RAF, but can't 100% agree with the sentiments (about 90% though). I spent time in the Falklands living in an ISO container. I also did time flying over Kosovo/Bosnia when that was going on, and I was no officer! However, the rest of the time Red Flag, Maple Flag (Canada), Flying Fish (Malaysia) was pretty much hotels, swimming pools and cheap beer. Not a bad life.
