RichmondLatic
That we have given up on this season. We can still make the playoffs IMO. Unlikley, but lets face it, more likely at this point than staying up looked in 92/93...

Unlikley, but lets face it, more likely at this point than staying up looked in 92/93... it could work in our favour tho. close seson starts now, whereas we get to the playoffs it starts at the end of may. a whole two months extra to prepare for 08/09. Look how many teams fail miserably the season after getting in the playoffs. Hartlepool and Brentford have both been relegated in recent years after a playoff birth the season before. Swansea finished outside the play offs last year. next year will be interesting.

OAFC_ULTRA
werent they 2nd, fighting for the title? Yes they were. That goal meant Utd won the league (along with all the points they won for themselves of course! )
leeslover
Yes they were. martjs
But Utd won the league by 10 points, so we don’t think we need blame ourselves for the final result! It was still painful for me to "give" them the title - how bitter am I? I'm amazed they won it by 10 points so I had to check Soccerbase (no offense LL!) What's more amazing to me is Arsenal, mid-table and nothing to play for beat Palace 3-0 on the last day... Look at how the fortunes have changed for the teams above Arsenal and Chelsea since this league table. And even the ones below. ("MK Dons", WTF???) What are the odds on some of these teams (including ourselves) ever getting back in the "Prem"? jorvik_latic
Cheers mate , nice statto's , never noticed that on their before had a look on the HT , second ! Compare the points spread between then and now too. Relegated with 49 points back then I know there were 2 more teams but that shouldn't make too much difference. I hardly saw us in the Premiership days, in that season every week you must all have been doing the conga on the way for your half time pies, and leaving the ground looking for ways to top yourselves. parigby
If my memory serves me, if Villa won that the title was theirs. Ron Atkinson ( the then Villa manager ) is reported to have said to the Villa team just before the kick off, words to the effect of " do you really want to be sitting on a beach somewhere this summer, thinking if only we had beaten Oldham, then the Premiership would have been ours " ) !!!! Looks like Big Joe's half-time chats didn't do us much good then!!! Or was it the players' fitness levels? Sounds like Shezza is not that bad after all in comparison... I don't remember doing the conga with a pie but I remember throwing a pie away at Wimbledon after we got back to 3-2 and Gerrard let (another) soft goal in.... Does anyone know who the Latics fan was that tried to get on the pitch that day to (allegedly) have a go at our dodgy-kneed young goalie? We were right at the front near the incident. He almost slipped in my pie
GFBunn
That table makes for interesting reading - only 1 team averaging 2 points per game and 1 team less than 1 point per game. In the current Premier League table 3 sides have over 2 points per game and 5 less than 1. Money has split the division into 3 mini-leagues. Also, if you select Goals Scored we were 3rd in the table... But if you select Goals Conceded we were 2nd... Now that's what I call value for money!
