Corporal_Jones
Sadly, very true What's the point of constantly restating that 'sadly' few apart from the hardcore bother to turn out, when unless something is done to break the cycle of constant underachievement the only thing that beckons is further decline? As the club official who spoke at half-time during the game on the day of the stadium protest said, there is no future in football at this level in a crumbling, dilapidated stadium. Corporal_Jones
No. But it's the reality. Pointless moaning about it unless you actively want to depress yourself. Depressing yourself doesn't really come into it. As people sometimes point out, there are more things worth worrying about than football. However, this is a football board, dedicated to advancing (or at least discussing) the cause of the mighty Latics, so we might as well explore all angles. jimsleftfoot
Exactly. He's a very good footballer with seemingly very few brain cells. Would rather he was off the wage bill than raise our expectations then let us down as recently.. He owes us for his 2nd chance and he needs to be the best behaved player in this league. He has also undermined Sheridan with his behaviour and mebbe shown Sheridan to be a weak manager. The whole Hardy and Corney discussion should have been between them and Sheridan to see if he (Shez) could take necessary steps. He hasn't. Hope Hughes proves me wrong and scores lots more, carries on with great assists, behaves and stays...................................... Second thoughts I'd rather keep the player who loves Oldham, and Eardley So do you think he has been a negative influence then overall this season? Unless you or I or anyone else mad enough to do so - wins the Euromillions and spunks about 10 million on the club then this is what we are looking at. So what do we do? We raise players from the youth team and flog them on and re-invest that money - what doesn't help is large parts of the people who do bother to turn up jumping on the backs of these 18,19 and 20 year old lads every time they misplace a pass or happen to fart in the wrong direction thereby forcing the player in to their shell for the next half hour and reducing their price in the eye of the scout who could well earn us a couple of 000s. If the people who keep the club going can't even pull in the direction that is marked "Forwards" and would rather prove a point to a small bunch of their mates that Eardley misplaces a pass every 3rd or 4th possession and jump on his back when he does then what hope do we have? So now we're back to blaming the small(ish) knots of hecklers around BP (the only ground to ever have these in the history of football.) Rebus_Latic
So do you think he has been a negative influence then overall this season? Would go for neutral at the minute. Started very positively, no doubts about ability, contribution.. Needed to curb his discipline probs and management needed to be on top of that and failed. Recently v. negative and has probably had effect on team as well as us which is a disappointment. He should and could be one of top scorers in this league - is letting himself and us down at the minute. One last chance..............to get himself a good deal in Jan???? Ketsbaia
so we might as well explore all angles. As long as they're acute and form a slope that points from top left to bottom right, eh Mr Micawber?
garcon
Can we attempt a bit of perspective here before everyone hangs themselves (or each other) (or Shez) ? I think most will accept that in the league we had a good start but have suffered a dip in form. So perhaps a reasonable basis upon which to predict a season outcome - i.e. we'll hit form again at some point, but we'll also have some stinkers. If you project our points haul so far for the whole season we'd be on 75 points. In all but one of the past several seasons that would get us a play-off spot. garcon
If I remember rightly (can't be bothered checking again) it would have been 7th last year. But looking at how tight the division is this season I think it'll be more like 5th.

Lookers_Carl
72 Points should be enough for a playoff spot this season But we carry on as we are doing, we ain't gonna get there, simple as. last 10 games have brought 3 wins, 4 draws, 3 losses. 13 points from a possible 30. Not the worst form in the world but it sure as hell is not promotion form. we are currently on 28 points after 16 games with 30 games to play. Carry on this form over the next 30 games would see us finish on 67 points, which will be exact same points tally as last year and not enough for the playoffs Edited November 19, 2008 by Lookers_Carl

It's simply part of football. If the crowd has no positive or negative impact it doesn't matter if people don't sing or get behind the team then or in fact if they are even there - should we close the chaddy for every game? People getting on their backs is the reason why Makin, Betsy and Butcher left.
stebuzz
attendence = thats the cheltenhams chairman and tta fault for making it £20 no wonder no one went.... think the only decent thing out of the game was we lee came on at least hes back from injury now also the attendance at their ground was very similar, 2500. people arent interested in games between 2 small time sides.
