Walsall Res 1 Latics Res 2

Match report from our OS:

From the Walsall OS:

Very enjoyable performance of passing football. Latics controlled the game and created many openings. It was only poor finishing and good defending that kept the score down. Neither keeper was called on to make a save.

The trialist, a stocky striker who looked a bit like Junior Agogo, was doing OK, but injured his shoulder after about half an hour and subbed.

We were talking to a bloke whose son was on the bench for Walsall for the first time from the Youth Team. It was deja vu from when I had a conversation with Chris Taylor's dad, in the same circumstances at Shrewsbury. This bloke knows a lot about the Wolves set-up and he knows Danny Jones - he saw us play at Northampton, and he said how much Danny is enjoying it at Latics.

One of the Walsall players, Richard Davies, is on loan from Wolves. He has a brother Mark, who is with Wolves and captain of the England youth team. The bloke described him as the best player he has ever seen - that's some claim! He said that the lad could do a good job for us in midfield, but at half-time he found out that the lad has gone on loan to Leicester.
