boboafc
1992: 5th march Arsenal play their first game in 17 days, beating Oldham Athletic 2-1 in a bad-tempered Highbury match. "It was no end-of-season friendly," admitted manager George Graham, after goals from Ian Wright - his 19th of the season, putting him to the top of the Division One goalscorers chart - and Paul Merson saw off the Latics. The lowest home crowd of the season, just 22,096, braved the elements for a heated affair which also saw Gunners assistant boss Stewart Houston involved in a touchline altercation with his opposite number, Willie Donachie. "It got a bit overheated," admitted Graham. "I thought Stewart wanted to calm them down. Ill-feeling was creeping in from the start; that's about the nicest thing I can say about it." David O'Leary's appearance as substitute two minutes from the end was his 700th since making his debut back in 1975. Frankly Mr Shankly
Who scored latics goal???? (no cheating) I'm fairly sure it was Ritchie, Sav. Wasn't it a midweek game? Pretty sure a lot of the bad feeling spilled over from the home game with them when Wright danced a jig in front of the Chaddy and wound everyone up, then was embroiled in a spitting row as he left the pitch. This was actually the only game I missed in 91-92, but I was at the Arsenal away game the following season when the North Bank was being re-built and they had the mural there instead. outoftheblue
Remember the night well. Parked up just off Holloway Rd, got a huge kebab then had nearly 3 hours drinking in a pub called The Flander and Firkin where we sat with Rory McGrath discussing his beloved Arsenal until he set off for the match 45 minutes before kick off (Think we may have upset him by slagging off Wrighty).
