Macclesfield: Directions, Beer & Food

Recommended Posts

Macclesfield Town’s ground is at Moss Rose, London Road, Macclesfield SK11 7SP.

Away fans are in the open Silkman End (capacity 1,500) with 403 covered seats available in the Alfred McAlpine Stand at the side of the pitch, with its impressive new facilities.

How to get there:

By Car:

From the North (M6): Exit the M6 at Junction 19 (Knutsford) and follow the A537 to Macclesfield. Follow the signs to the Town Centre from where the ground is signposted.

From the North (Manchester/M62+M60): Leave the M60 at Stockport and follow the A6 through Stockport until the road forks. Take the right-hand fork signposted Macclesfield (A523). Follow this road past the town until you reach the end of the dual carriageway. The ground is roughly 1.25 miles on your right.

Alternatively leave the M60 at Junction 3 Cheadle and take the A34 following the signs for Macclesfield and Other Routes..

From the South (M6): Exit the M6 at Junction 17 (Sandbach) and follow the A534 to Congleton. From here take the A536 to Macclesfield (Macclesfield is signposted from the Motorway). After passing the Millers pub on the left continue for about 0.25 of a mile and take the first right after the speed camera onto Moss Lane. Follow Moss Lane until you reach the ground.

From the East (Buxton): Come into Macclesfield on the A537 (careful though, as it is reportedly the most dangerous road in the country). At the bottom of the hill with the station opposite turn left onto the dual carriageway. Then as above.

Any Other Routes: The ground is signposted from the Town Centre but if in doubt follow the signs towards Leek (A523). The ground is about one mile out of town on the A523.

Parking:

Street parking is available around and behind the ground and on the A523 which runs past the ground.

By Train:

Macclesfield train station is about one and a quarter miles from the Moss Rose ground. As you leave the station, at the bottom of the station approach turn left onto Sunderland Street, and follow the traffic until the traffic lights at Park Green (war memorial and gardens). Turn left into Mill Lane and follow this road which becomes London Road. Just after passing the Catholic Church on the right the ground comes into sight ahead.

By Bus:

You can catch a bus up to the ground from the bus station in the town centre. To reach the bus station from outside the train station, cross the main road, turn right and then turn left by the car showroom into Waters Green and follow this road up the hill (Queen Victoria Street) to the bus station on the left. Buses returning from the ground stop on the main road outside the train station.

Service 9 Moss Rose Circular - every 30 minutes

Service 14 Langley - hourly all day and evening.

Disabled facilities:

There are 30 home and 15 away wheelchair spaces. All positions are pitchside in the Alfred McAlpine Stand and give partial cover with carer seats slightly behind. There are three adapted toilets directly behind the wheelchair areas. Refreshment outlets are situated behind the stands although not dedicated todisabled users. Steward assistance is available on request

Where to eat and drink:

The ground is located on the outskirts of Macclesfield and there is not a big choice of pubs or even a chippy. There is a Burger King about 200yards from the ground.

The Golden Lion is the nearest pub but does not serve food. It is about a ten minute walk heading down Moss Lane, which goes behind the away terrace, and then turn left at the corner of the ground and walk down behind the new stand. Keep straight on this road and the pub on the left.

The Railway View is a ten minute walk away on Byrons Lane and serves a selection of real ales. It has a small beer garden and sells homemade pies.

The Albion on London Road going towards the town centre serves real ales and has a beer garden..

The town centre has an excellent selection of cafes and bars for all tastes., including Yates’ Wine Lodge, the Society Rooms and the Litten Tree, all of which also serve food.

Up the hill near the train station there are a couple of cafes as well as a selection of fast food outlets. McDonalds is in the town centre.

Food inside the ground includes the usual burgers, hot dogs, pies and pasties.
