palmer1
I’m supposed to be collecting my new car from the dealer on Sunday and realised last night that I can’t find the paper part of my license. Does anyone know how big an issue this is going to be- will the DVLA issue a temp one or can a check be made to see if the licence is clean? Am I up the creek without a paddle now? oafc0000
The plastic ID card is in fact additional to the counterpart license so yes, you need it if not for the nice things like buying a new car but for driving endorsements too. I would imagine that in buying a new car there is some finance involved and the agreement requires the full driving license for the contract to be legal. A trip to DVLA on Chester Road next to the cricket ground might be in order, they usually complete the paperwork while you wait. I never will understand the governments need to introduce two things when one will do... For example, ID cards... Have a passport or a ID card... no need for both... Driving license, have the photo card or paper... no need for both... Libs and Tories... no need for both Practically the same out outcome Edited October 12, 2010 by oafc0000

downender2
as I suspected - Thanks for the info the dealer can always just make a call to DVLA to check your record, with your authority mind
