We deserved a point against Carlisle

Recommended Posts

We moved the ball around quickly, taking advantage of a wet pitch.

We kept it on the floor, when we realised they were far superior in the air.

We spread Carlisle wider to give ourselves more room on the ball.

We constantly fed the wings, and took the ball down to the goal-line to whip crosses in.

We put pace on our corners.

We made ourselves an available option for quick passing.

We pushed up in midfield, allowing us to take the game to them.

We played the simple ball when it mattered.

Oh, wait..............No we didn't.

Come on Latics, we are capable of so much better than that. We were in the top six because of all the above. Stop this long, high ball nonsense that's crept in over the last few games, and start tearing teams apart from the wings again.

Three people were there last night that I've been banging on to about how our style of play has changed, and why they should get back to BP. Obviously they don't agree, judging by their comments this morning.

We ARE a good side. We've seen it. Poor application, poor individual performances and totally wrong tactics would have suggested otherwise to the stayaways last night.

Iv'e noticed the full backs and centre backs are now clearing the ball much more quickly instead of linking play, this has lead to bypassing the midfield and wide men with the ball reaching the strikers about head high where they can do little with the ball.

Defensive fear is whats causing this as they don't want to be caught dwelling on the ball.

All it needs is a little more composure on the ball, that's why I would like to see a calming influence introduced, particularly at left back, in central midfield (when Stephens is out) and a big old fashioned striker who can hold up the ball.

Not going to disagree with that. We really did seem to panic under pressure last night.
