Demise of the multiball system

Recommended Posts

I missed this news from the FL AGM in Cyprus but the multiball system will no longer be used in FL and cup games because of its "abuse" by some teams.

Dont know if it was a good thing or not at BP. It will certainly stop the hold ups when balls are thrown back from the "crowd" onto the pitch.

The multi-ball system although irritating at times is very handy, bad that they've scrapped it but understandable. The abuse of the system has been happening for many years, thinking back to Blackpool away a few times where when they took the lead the multi ball system was then scrapped in the game and it would take longer for the ball to come back. The multi-ball system also works badly against the home team aswell though, thinking back to Dagenham at home this season, disaster when the ballboy threw it back to their player far too quickly for our players to catch on, and then it was 1-1!

Will the multi-ball system still be allowed on the Lookers side of the ground? as if it goes over the stand then we can get a new ball quicker and delay won't be caused?

I know its not in the Football League but Everton once tried to use it to their advantage. Remember it was highlighted on Match of the Day that when their own team got a throw in, they got the ball straight away (as you do with multiball) wheras the opposing team werent given a new ball when they got a throw in, thus slowing down play.

This is good news, as it will enable valuable seconds to be gained when Latics are winning and the ball gets fumbled accidentally behind the goal at the Chaddy End.
