maddog
It seems that 1/3 of the teams enetered receive a bye - seems a bit high (and if this is the usual set-up, why have we not had one before!?).

We did have one a couple of years ago or so

opinions4u
It seems that 1/3 of the teams enetered receive a bye - seems a bit high 48 teams in it. 32 compete in the first round. 16 qualify in addition to 16 getting a bye. 32 in the second round; then 16; then 8; then 4; then 2 in the final. If they gave 8 a bye you'd have 28 teams in the second round, then 14, then 7 ... then a problem! If they gave 8 a bye you'd have 28 teams in the second round, then 14, then 7 ... then a problem! It happened in the Thai FA Cup this season. There were 18 teams left after round three, and nobody from the Thai FA noticed! When it was eventually pointed out to them, they had to add an additional round with just two ties in order to get it back on track.
