oafcprozac
For all our scramble to try and re-sign Derbyshire, Smith has quietly moved level with him in terms of goals scored all from just 11 starts and a fair few sub appearances. He might not be the most technically gifted player but he is growing into that out and out old fashioned Number 9 role. I still think we need another striker but for now Smith keeps the shirt and I'd be looking at a nippy option alongside him to feed off those headers he wins time after time. BTW Derbyshire scored his 6 goals in 20 starts. Now i'm not for one minute saying Smithy is a better striker, but used correctly he can be as equally effective. Nathan Connor
Totally agree with you, people slate him but he does exactly what he's put on the field to do win the ball in the air and be does, also his commitment and passion is second to non and it looks he appreciated every minute he gets on the field
bluehobbit
if we do like we did sunday put someone around him who can chase flicks, close defenders down and be another type of outlet for the team and put some quality balls in the air he will score a few. He always gets chances in matches because of his size - he may never be prolific but he is useful for us im not sure we should be relying on him to play from the start week in week out but at against Liverpool that was his best performance in the air won everything 1st half and some good lay offs and he found the back of the net. Ricky Oldham
I see Smith's stock is rising. Last week he was being compared to that useless lard arse Reid and now he is being compared to a Champions League / Premier League experience striker. Fully agree with previous comments, used correctly he is a real asset!
Latics_Fanatic
Just shows how first team football can make a player come out of his shell rather than 15 minutes here and there. 3 goals in 2 games - carry on Smithy!
De_La_Vega
Well, he's come good over the last six weeks or so when he has started to jump his height. I thought he put decent shifts in against both Donny and Forest, winning headers for the first time ever. Would love to see him get a taste for battering centre-halves and start doing it every week
oafcprozac
Could be another Steve Howard - not particularly prolific but a right pain in the arse to play against.
