Steely Latics find a way over the line

Recommended Posts

In my days in the Oldham Sunday League, whenever we told a winger to get back and help defensively, there was only ever 1 reply, 'Not my effing job!'

We soon concluded that it was best if they never ever came near to our own penalty area! Get Sidney on and tell him to hit the bye line every time.

I had a mate at Uni who played at semi-pro level and had a similar attitude, he basically said that playing 4-4-2 was the only way to get wingers to do any sort of positional work as they would never be interested in doing the defensive shift in a 4-5-1/4-3-3. He should know, he played on the right wing himself!
